Traveling mercies, silent needs

We join you in thanking our Heavenly Father for His many blessings and we lift up your request together before His throne in Jesus' name. We are grateful you have come in the name of Jesus, for it is through Him alone that we have access to the Father and confidence that He hears us. As it is written, Whatever you will ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son, John 14:13.

We pray for traveling mercies for you as you go to and from the hospital to see your son. We ask the Lord to keep you safe on every mile, to guard your going out and your coming in. We claim the promise that Yahweh will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more, Psalm 121:8, and that He will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways, Psalm 91:11. We ask Him to keep your path clear, your mind alert, and your heart at peace, and to bring you there and home again safely.

We also lift up your son to the Lord, asking for His healing hand, comfort, and strength to be upon him in the hospital. We pray for wisdom and skill for the doctors and nurses who care for him, and for the peace of God to rest upon him and upon you as you are with him.

We bring before the Lord the silent needs of your family that you hold in your heart. Though unspoken to us, they are fully known to Him. We take comfort that we can cast all our worries on him, because he cares for you, 1 Peter 5:7, and that in nothing we should be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let our requests be made known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and our thoughts in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:6-7. We trust that He hears even the groanings that we cannot express and that He will work all things together for good for those who love Him, Romans 8:28.

We pray together, Father in heaven, we thank You for Your goodness and mercy that follow us each day. We ask for Your protection over this dear one as they travel, keep them from harm and accident and bring them safely to their son and safely home. Lay Your hand upon their son, grant him healing and restoration according to Your will, and give comfort and strength to the whole family. For every silent and unspoken need, Father, You know each one, we ask You to provide, to comfort, to supply and to answer as only You can. Help us to trust in You with all our heart, and not lean on our own understanding, but in all our ways acknowledge You, that You will make our paths straight, Proverbs 3:5-6. Let Your peace guard this family and let them feel Your nearness in this time. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Thank you for letting us pray with you about these hospital trips. We can hear how much you love your son and your family, and how you are carrying both spoken and unspoken burdens to the Lord.

Those drives back and forth can be tiring in themselves, especially when your heart is already weighed down. We are asking God to keep you safe on each trip, to give you alertness and peace on the road, and to provide rest when you need it. If you can, it can help to let a trusted family member or friend know your travel times and to not rush, allowing a little extra margin so you are not pressed.

We also hear your mention of silent needs. You do not have to spell them out for God to know them, and we join you in bringing them to Him just as they are, trusting He sees each one in your family with care.

Father, we thank You for this one who loves You and loves their family. We ask for Your hand over every drive to and from the hospital, for safety and steadiness, and for Your nearness to their son and to each silent need at home. Give wisdom, strength for today, and quiet assurance that You are with them. In Jesus name, Amen.

Your thanksgiving has gladdened us and your petitions have been taken to heart, and we join our prayers with yours before the throne of grace.

You have blessed the Lord for His blessings, and this is a profitable frame of mind, for ingratitude is a spiritual disease, while a grateful heart keeps the soul in health. Your mercies, if you would count them, are innumerable. Every beating pulse increases the multitude of them, and every one of them comes to you by way of the Cross and bears the mark of the Redeemer's blood upon it. Keep then your count with a thankful eye, and let the remembrance of past mercies strengthen your faith for present needs.

You ask for traveling mercies to and from the hospital to see your son. The Lord is the keeper of His people in their going out and their coming in. He who watches over the way of His saints will watch over the road before you and the road behind you. We pray that He will give His angels charge over you, preserve you from peril, and bring you safely there and safely home again, that your journey may be ordered in peace.

It is a tender thing to visit a hospital, and it often makes the heart more tender still. There we are reminded how frail our flesh is, and how great the mercy that we are yet spared and sustained. Yet there is a greater Hospital, the Hospital of Christ, where the Great Physician heals those who are sick with sin and sorrow. May your visits to your son be made a sanatorium to your own soul, softening your heart, deepening your compassion, and drawing you nearer to Him who heals all our diseases. We pray for your son, that the Lord will lay His hand upon him for good, give wisdom to those who care for him, and grant him restoring mercy according to His will.

You bring also silent needs for your family. The Lord knows what words cannot utter. There are mercies which are sure because they are the sure mercies of David, even the mercies which are in Christ Jesus our Lord. In Him there is salvation, cleansing, and help for helpless sinners. Because your David lives, who died to purchase these mercies and lives to apply them, those mercies are sure to all who lay hold upon the everlasting covenant. We commend your silent needs to Him who hears the groanings that cannot be uttered and who knows the wants of every heart in the household.

Let family prayer be kept up with double zeal in this season. It is the nutriment of family piety and the castle of the home. When the household bows together, the Lord is pleased to pour out blessing upon parents and children alike. Draw near together, incline your ear and come unto Him, that your souls may live by His covenant mercies.

We pray now for you.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your innumerable mercies bestowed upon this family, mercies new every morning. We ask You to keep this dear one in all their travels, to guard their way to the hospital and their return, and to let no evil befall them. Visit the son with Your compassion, ease his affliction, and grant him Your healing and peace. Look upon the silent needs of the family, which are known to You though unspoken to us, and supply them out of the sure mercies of David in Christ Jesus. Keep this household in Your fear, establish them in prayer, and cause Your grace to reign in every heart, through Jesus Christ our Lord, in whose name we ask it. Amen.
