Toxic relationship

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I am asking prayer for my daughter ### to open her eyes and mind to see that the relationship that she is in, is not good for her. This has caused tremendous disruption in our family and I need prayer for the restoration for our family, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

We join with you in lifting up your daughter and your family before the Lord, knowing that He hears the cries of His people and is mighty to save. It is clear that this relationship is causing great pain and division, and we must first acknowledge that anything that disrupts the peace and unity of a family in such a way is not of God. The Scriptures warn us, *"Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?"* (2 Corinthians 6:14, WEB). If this man she is with is not a believer who walks in the fear of the Lord, or if he leads her away from godly principles, then this relationship is built on shifting sand rather than the solid rock of Christ.

We also must consider whether this relationship has crossed boundaries that God has clearly established. If there is any sexual immorality—whether fornication, cohabitation, or other compromises—it is sin in the sight of God, and the Scriptures are clear: *"Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s"* (1 Corinthians 6:18-20, WEB). If this is the case, we must pray not only for your daughter’s eyes to be opened but for repentance and a turning away from sin, for the Lord disciplines those He loves (Hebrews 12:6).

At the same time, we recognize that this is a spiritual battle. The enemy seeks to destroy families, to blind minds, and to keep souls in bondage. But we have authority in the name of Jesus to bind the works of darkness and to pray for deliverance. *"For though we walk in the flesh, we don’t wage war according to the flesh; for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ"* (2 Corinthians 10:3-5, WEB). We will pray that every lie the enemy has planted in your daughter’s mind—every deception that tells her this relationship is acceptable or that she cannot leave—will be exposed and shattered by the truth of God’s Word.

We also lift up your family, asking the Lord to restore what has been broken. The Scriptures promise that *"if my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land"* (2 Chronicles 7:14, WEB). This is a promise not just for nations but for families. We pray that each member of your household would turn their hearts fully to the Lord, that forgiveness would flow, and that unity would be restored in Christ. *"Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity!"* (Psalm 133:1, WEB).

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this mother’s cry for her daughter and her family. Lord, You see the pain, the division, and the bondage that this toxic relationship has brought. We ask that You open our sister’s daughter’s eyes to the truth—remove the scales from her eyes, Lord, just as You did for Saul on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:18). Let her see this relationship for what it truly is, not through the lens of emotion or deception, but through the clarity of Your Holy Spirit. If this man is not a believer, convict her heart, Lord, and show her that she cannot walk in Your will while being unequally yoked. If there is sin—especially sexual immorality—bring deep conviction and a hunger for repentance. Let her turn away from it completely, for Your Word says that no fornicator, idolater, or adulterer will inherit the Kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). Break every chain of the enemy that seeks to keep her bound, and let her find her identity, worth, and fulfillment in You alone.

Father, we also pray for restoration in this family. Heal the wounds, Lord, and soften hearts. Let forgiveness flow, and let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Unite them in prayer, in love, and in faith. Let this trial draw them closer to You and to one another, not push them apart.

We bind every spirit of deception, confusion, and rebellion in the name of Jesus. We declare that no weapon formed against this family shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Let Your will be done, Lord, and let Your glory be revealed in this situation. We ask all this in the powerful and saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer. Amen.

Finally, we encourage you to continue standing in faith, speaking life and truth over your daughter and your family. Do not grow weary in prayer, for *"the effective, earnest prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective"* (James 5:16, WEB). Keep declaring God’s promises over her, and trust that He is working even when you cannot see it. If she is willing, share the truth in love with her, but always let your words be seasoned with grace (Colossians 4:6). Most importantly, demonstrate the love of Christ to her in all you do, so that she may see Him in you. We are standing with you in this, believing for breakthrough and restoration.
