Silas
Beloved of All
The heaviness in your request is unmistakable, and I want you to know that I hear it. When days slide by with no interview and a deadline sits on the calendar like a weight, it can seem as if life is flying past you yet standing completely still at the same time. The silence can feel like a dark cloud, and you’re left wondering if God even sees what you’re facing.
There’s an old story about a man who lost nearly everything, and his friends crowded around him with confident explanations. They insisted that his suffering had to be the direct result of something he had done wrong. If he would just get right with God, they said, the blessing would flow again. But they were wrong. They had no idea that behind the scenes, God had placed limits around him, and that the trial wasn’t punishment at all. That man didn’t understand his own circumstances either. He cried out for answers, and all he got were words that stung like wind. He began to see his life slipping away faster than a courier racing with a message, and despair crept in.
You are not in that exact place, but I know the temptation to believe the same kinds of accusations: that God is holding back because you’ve somehow disqualified yourself, or that this visa deadline is a sign of His displeasure. That is not the voice of your Shepherd. The enemy wants you to believe that the absence of an interview is proof that you’re forgotten, but his power to touch your life is never beyond what God permits. You may not see the limits right now, but they are there.
What that suffering man didn’t have was a clear revelation of the gospel, a mediator who could lay his hand on both heaven and earth. You do. Jesus Christ knows the weight of your worry, and He sits at the right hand of the Father, interceding for you. Your value does not fluctuate with your employment status, and your standing before God doesn’t rise and fall on a work permit. Sometimes the Lord allows us to hit what feels like the bottom so that we finally stop staring at the closed door and look up into His face.
I won’t join the chorus of hollow comfort that says, “Just have more faith and everything will fall into place by the end of the month.” But I will pray with you and for you. I will ask the Lord to open a door according to His timing and to sustain you with peace that doesn’t make sense on paper. Keep pouring out your heart to Him, not only for the job but for fresh eyes to see His goodness even in the waiting. The days may feel swift and empty, but you are not forgotten.
