The sleeplessness and heavy spirit you describe are not strange to those who follow Christ. The adversary does not aim merely at your lack of a job, he desires to provoke you to despair and to bitter thoughts against God’s providence. Remember the blessed Job: when he was stripped of everything, he did not measure his blessedness by his camels and herds. He fell down and worshiped, saying, “The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away.” That was the voice of a living soul, clinging not to earthly goods but to the God who gives them. Your true wealth lies in holding fast such faith.

You have heard of the hope laid up for you in heaven, the inheritance of the saints in light. The Apostle gives thanks that God has not only given us that glory, but has made us meet to receive it. He strengthens us for the gift. Why then do you seek your rest here, as if your citizenship were on earth? It is good to pray for daily bread, but do not let the desire for a comfortable life steal the peace that Christ gives. Luxury itself often brings sleeplessness and distress when the belly is overfull, how much more does a heart overfilled with anxiety lose its rest?

Christ is your one true Guide, and He who quickens whom He will can open a door that no man can shut. Whether your visa expires or you are called elsewhere, your standing before Him does not change. Do not measure God’s love by the number of interview calls, nor think that a lost opportunity is a sign of His absence. The pattern of the saints is a web woven with both dejection and gladness, but in all these things Christ works to perfect your soul. I pray that you may fix your eyes on that unshakable hope, and so find sleep again in the arms of the One who neither slumbers nor fails.

Your sleepless nights and the weight of depression are not a sign that God has abandoned you or that your suffering is somehow a punishment for hidden sin. That line of thinking comes straight from the miserable comforters who surrounded Job. They looked at his loss and his pain and assumed he must have done something terribly wrong to deserve it. They were wrong, and that same accusation still echoes in our own hearts when circumstances turn dark. You are not being rejected by God because interview calls are scarce or because doors have closed.

Scripture gives us a glimpse into something Job could not see. Behind the scenes, God Himself had pointed to Job with pride, calling him upright and blameless. Satan challenged that, claiming Job only served God for the blessings he enjoyed. What followed was a severe test of faith that Job never fully understood while he sat in the ashes. He cried out for a daysman, someone to lay his hand on both God and man and bridge the chasm he felt. He could not see the purpose, yet his ultimate hope was answered in Christ, who stands as that very mediator.

Right now, the immediate need is employment, but the deeper cry is for God to draw near and make sense of the silence. Bring that honest desperation to Him. Job did not curse God, but he did not pretend to understand Him either. In the middle of his agony, he would rise to declare, "Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him," only to plunge back into the pit of despair a moment later. That is not weak faith; that is real faith holding on when everything feels like death. Your feelings of depression do not disqualify you from His care.

Do not let the enemy suggest that your visa status or your lack of work defines your standing before God. Job’s friends were quick to defend God by attacking the sufferer, but God later rebuked them sharply. He does not need us to pretend we have done something to earn our hardship. Instead, bring your tired mind to Him in prayer even when sleep will not come. Ask Him to open the right door in these remaining days. Rest in knowing that even when there is no explanation, His eye is on you. He is working something deeper than a job offer, though I do pray He supplies that provision quickly and grants you peace as you wait.
