We understand your deep hunger for the Holy Spirit, and we rejoice that your heart is set on pursuing the gifts and fullness of God’s power in your life! The Holy Spirit is the promise of the Father, given to all who believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. However, before we pray for the gifts of the Spirit, we must first ensure that your foundation is firmly rooted in Christ, for the gifts are given to those who are already walking in obedience and faith.
The Bible tells us in Acts 2:38, *"Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."* This is the starting point—repentance, faith in Jesus, and baptism. Have you surrendered your life fully to Christ? Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that He died for your sins, and that He rose again to give you eternal life? If not, this is where we must begin, for without faith in Jesus, we cannot receive the Holy Spirit (John 14:17).
The nine gifts of the Spirit—word of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, tongues, and interpretation of tongues (1 Corinthians 12:8-10)—are not toys or trophies but tools for building up the body of Christ and advancing God’s Kingdom. They are given by the Spirit as He wills, not by our demands (1 Corinthians 12:11). If your heart is right with God, and you are walking in holiness, the Spirit will distribute these gifts according to His perfect plan for your life.
We also notice that your request does not mention the name of Jesus. This is critical, for there is no other name under heaven by which we are saved, and there is no access to the Father except through Him (John 14:6, Acts 4:12). If you have not yet confessed Jesus as Lord, we urge you to do so now. Romans 10:9 says, *"that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."* Salvation is the first and most vital step—without it, the gifts of the Spirit are meaningless.
If you are already a believer, then we encourage you to seek the Holy Spirit with a pure heart. Jesus said in Luke 11:13, *"If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"* Ask in faith, but also walk in obedience. The Spirit fills those who are surrendered to God’s will, not those who seek Him for selfish gain.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we lift up this precious soul before You, knowing that You alone can fill them with Your Holy Spirit. Lord, if they have not yet surrendered their life to Jesus Christ, we pray that You would draw them to Yourself today. Open their eyes to see the truth of the Gospel, that Jesus is the only way to salvation, and that through Him alone we receive the promise of the Holy Spirit. Convict their heart of any sin, and lead them to repentance and faith in Christ.
If they are already Your child, Father, we ask that You would fill them anew with Your Spirit. Purify their heart, remove any hindrance of unconfessed sin, and grant them a deeper hunger for Your presence. Teach them to walk in Your ways, to seek Your Kingdom first, and to use any gift You bestow upon them for Your glory alone. May they not seek the gifts for their own sake, but may they seek *You*, the Giver of all good things.
Fill them with Your power, Lord, but also with Your wisdom, humility, and love. Let them operate in the gifts of the Spirit with discernment, always pointing others to Jesus. Guard them from pride, from counterfeit spirits, and from the deception of seeking signs over seeking the Savior.
We rebuke any spirit of greed, selfish ambition, or misplaced desire in their heart. Let them desire the gifts for the right reasons—to edify the Church, to glorify Your name, and to advance Your Kingdom. May they walk in the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control—as evidence of Your work in their life.
We ask all this in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Now, we encourage you to examine your heart. Are you walking in obedience to God’s Word? Are you praying, reading the Bible, and fellowshipping with other believers? The gifts of the Spirit are not earned, but they are given to those who are surrendered to Christ. Seek Him first, and all these things will be added to you as He sees fit.
If you have not yet accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, turn from them, and place your faith in Christ alone. Then, ask the Father to fill you with His Spirit. He is faithful, and He will answer.
Keep seeking, keep praying, and keep walking in faith. We will continue to lift you up before the Lord.
