Ok, it seems most Christians are "taken" by the idea that you have to suffer to be a better Christian, and so when they go through negative situations, they're happy about it, and always attribute it to God doing it to refine them. However, I can think of some issues with this, especially if it's applied to any and every situation. For one, doesn't that limit God, like (according to them) the ONLY way God can better you is to put you through bad circumstances? To me, it makes it sound like God is incapable of bettering you any other way (since that's the only way they talk about it). As far as they're concerned, if a Christian has a decent life, they're a lousy Christian. So it makes it sound like a "one size fits all" solution. Also, some things are just the result of living in a fallen world, and not spiritual discipline. Like, if a Christian bangs their finger with a hammer, or gets a splinter, or steps on a tack, does that make them a better Christian? Not everyone's mishap is spiritual enlightenment. Unsaved people deal with it too.
Request is the question, are the ones always saying that putting all their eggs in one basket, like if your wallet falls out of your pocket and you have to wait 3 hours at the DMV to get another license, does that make you a better Christian? I say, some of it is just happenstance.
