time in hospital

Your cry for mercy from that hospital bed rises like the cry of the blind men by the roadside, and the Lord who stopped for them hears you. He does not ask for eloquent words, only the earnest plea of a soul that knows its need. That you desire to recover not merely for your own comfort but to become a blessing to those around you even now, this is already the work of the true Light that lighteth every man, shining into your heart and making your sickness itself a pulpit.

Do not think that healing is only for the body. The healings Christ performed were shouts to the world that the resurrection is real, that the true blessing lies not in length of days nor in going out and coming in without a limp, but in what awaits beyond. Jacob’s days were few and evil, yet the blessing was his, stored up in the world to come. So here, whether He restores your frame swiftly or permits the weakness to linger, He is working a spiritual blessing, teaching you to stand aloof from carnal comforts and cling to the things that cannot be shaken. The governor marvelled at Christ’s silence under accusation; when your body accuses you with pain and the mind frets over the uncertainty, the virtue He desires from you is that same patient silence of faith, which shouts louder than any complaint.

While you wait and pray, do not let those around you hear only your request for health. Let them see your earnestness, but also your readiness to say, “According to your faith be it unto you” in a voice that expects the verdict to come from the Father’s goodness, not the clock’s hand. You are already a blessing if you keep before their eyes the truth that this life is a vestibule, not the mansion. When a physician despairs of a body, we beg him to continue the treatment; how much more should we beg our own souls not to slacken? This trial is the medicine, and you may be the one blow that fells a tree of unbelief in a fellow patient. Even ten hearings seem fruitless, then one acts at last. So your patience, your quiet thanksgiving for small mercies, your refusal to murmur, these are alms distributed in the Gospel’s fulness, and they testify that He is risen and that we too shall rise. Let your sickness be a witness: He holds you, so hold fast to Him, and you will lack nothing, whether you walk out of those doors or walk into the arms of the Resurrection.

It is a good and right desire to want to recover and to be a blessing to those around you. That very longing did not originate with you; it is a reflection of the Spirit’s work within you. You see, there is a witness that God desires to bring forth from your life, not just in what you say but in what you become by his grace.

Your recovery itself will be a witness. Jesus spoke of how the works the Father gave him to finish bore witness that the Father had sent him. In a similar way, when God moves in your body and restores your strength, that very work becomes a testimony. It is a witness of God’s kindness and power that is greater than any mere human argument. Do not accept the false notion that this sickness is a mark of spiritual failure. That is the witness of man, and it is tragically wrong. Your healing, when it comes, will not be a reward for perfect faith but a display of God’s goodness to a child of promise.

Right where you are, in that hospital bed, remember that your responsibility is not to force anyone to believe anything. Your part is simply to bear witness. As Paul did, even before rulers, you have an opportunity to let the story of what God is doing in your life be told. It may be a word to a nurse, a quiet testimony to a worried family member, or simply the peace you carry in a place of fear. Once the witness is given, it becomes the listener's responsibility. The Spirit is the one who bears witness alongside your spirit, and his witness is true.

The way you live this out is by looking away from your own needs for a moment and onto the welfare of those around you. The mind of Christ is to regard others as more important than yourself, to live in such a self-forgetting way that your prayers are also for them. You said you want to be a blessing. That is exactly the path. By turning your gaze to comfort another patient or to encourage a staff member, you are displaying the very heart of your Lord. He came not to be served, but to serve.

Rest in this: God’s promise of blessing on your life is not earned by great deeds, but received through faith, just as the blessing of Abraham was passed down. Through Jesus Christ, you have entered into that covenant of blessing. So do not be afraid; do not wait for an “axe to fall.” His goodness never runs out. Let that steady, unearned goodness wash over you now. It is his kindness that renews our strength and often, it is his overwhelming kindness that brings others to their knees. Your simple, peaceful trust in him, coupled with a genuine care for others, will be the witness that echoes through those halls long after you have gone home.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer during your time in the hospital. It has been on our hearts to lift you up before the Lord, asking Him to bring healing, comfort, and strength to your body in Jesus’ Name. We prayed that His peace would surround you and that you would feel His presence in a powerful way as you recover.

We also held onto your desire to be a blessing to others around you, asking God to use you as a light in that place, reflecting His love and hope to those who may need it. If the Lord has answered these prayers—if you’re experiencing healing, encouragement, or opportunities to share His love—we would be so grateful to hear a praise report. Your testimony could be an encouragement to so many others who are waiting on God’s faithfulness.

If, however, your recovery is still ongoing or you’re facing challenges that feel unanswered, please don’t hesitate to post this request again. We are here to continue standing with you, lifting your needs before our Heavenly Father. He hears every prayer, and His timing is perfect, even when it’s hard to see.

May the Lord bless you abundantly as you seek Him. May He grant you patience, strength, and renewed hope each day. We continue to pray that His will be done in your life and that you would experience His peace that surpasses all understanding. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
