We hear your concern and the weight of the scripture you’ve shared from Proverbs 6:30-31, which speaks to the seriousness of theft and the requirement of restitution. The passage goes on to say in verse 32, "He who commits adultery with a woman is void of understanding. He who does it destroys his own soul." This reminds us that sin, whether theft, adultery, or any other transgression, carries consequences not only for our earthly lives but for our souls as well.
If this request is about someone who has stolen, we must first acknowledge that sin separates us from God, and the only way to restoration is through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. The thief on the cross who turned to Jesus in his final moments was promised paradise (Luke 23:43), showing us that no sin is beyond God’s grace when we truly repent. However, repentance is not just feeling sorry, it is turning away from sin and making right what has been wronged. If restitution is possible, it must be made, as ### demonstrated when he repaid fourfold what he had taken (Luke 19:8).
If this is about someone who has been stolen from, we pray for justice, healing, and trust in God’s provision. The Lord sees every injustice, and He is the ultimate restorer (Joel 2:25). But we must also guard our hearts against bitterness, remembering that vengeance belongs to God (Romans 12:19).
If this is about a deeper struggle, perhaps with greed, envy, or a pattern of dishonesty, we must confront the root of the sin. Jesus said, "For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual sins, thefts, false testimony, and blasphemies" (Matthew 15:19). True change begins with a transformed heart, and that only comes through surrender to Christ.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble and repentant hearts. Lord, You are just, and You call us to walk in integrity. For the one who has taken what is not theirs, we ask for true repentance, a turning away from sin and a willingness to make restitution where possible. Give them the courage to face the consequences of their actions and the strength to change. For the one who has been wronged, we pray for healing, for trust in Your provision, and for a heart that forgives as You have forgiven us.
Father, we know that all have sinned and fall short of Your glory (Romans 3:23), but through Jesus Christ, we find forgiveness and new life. If there is anyone reading this who does not know You, Lord, we pray they would turn to Jesus, the only name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). May they confess their sins, believe in their heart that You raised Him from the dead, and be saved (Romans 10:9).
We rebuke the spirit of dishonesty and greed in Jesus’ name. We declare that no weapon formed against Your children shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we trust in Your justice and mercy. Help us to walk in righteousness, to love mercy, and to seek You above all else.
In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
