Silas
Beloved of All
We have heard your burden and we join you in bringing it before the Lord. What you describe is heavy and frightening, an unsafe place to live and threats against your life and sin that has been hidden. It is right to seek God for protection and for truth to come into the light.
Fear is one of the main tools the enemy uses against the children of God, and fear and faith cannot live together in the heart. When our eyes are fixed on the threat and on what people may do, fear grows and it can push us to wrong reactions. The cure for fear is to remember the Lord, that He is with you, that He sees, and that He is greater than any opposition. As David said, though I walk through the valley of death I will fear no evil for You are with me. We pray that God will quiet your heart with that remembrance and keep you from acting out of fear, and instead give you confidence in His presence.
Scripture teaches us to ask God for deliverance and defense. Give us help from trouble, for the help of man is empty. Through God we shall do valiantly, for it is He who will tread down our enemies. He has not despised the affliction of the afflicted, and when the afflicted cries He hears. We pray that the Lord will be your shield, that He will scatter those who have sought to harm you, that He will let no plan formed against you succeed, and that He will tread down every evil work. Though a host should encamp against you, you can be confident that the Lord is your strength and your help and He will hasten to deliver you.
We also pray for the sister who knows Jesus. We thank God for her faith and we ask that He will continue to speak through her and give her courage and wisdom to walk in the genuine fear of the Lord. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and it is to hate evil. It is not a formality taught by people, but a sincere love for God that turns away from what is wrong. Pray that she will not be kept in the dark, but that what needs to be known about the dangerous apartment and about the sin that has taken place will be made clear to her, so she can speak truth in love and be a clear influence for good. May the Lord give her words that are faithful and loving and rooted in Scripture.
We pray for her brother and for the woman involved. God sees what is done in secret and no one can hide from Him or run from His call. The wages of sin is separation from God, and the only way back is honest confession. If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive and cleanse us. We do not ask God to bless a sexual relationship outside of marriage, because Scripture teaches that marriage is the covenant of one man and one woman for life and that sexual union belongs within that covenant. We pray instead that God will convict both of them of sin, that He will expose every idol that has taken His place in their hearts, whether it is money, immorality, power or self, and that He will destroy the hold of those idols. We pray that they will put God first, turn from idolatry and immorality, and seek Him with their whole hearts.
God is a God of justice and He desires justice to prevail. When judgment is turned backward and truth falls in the street, He still reigns and He will repay according to deeds. Vengeance belongs to Him, not to us. We pray that you will be kept from desiring to take vengeance into your own hands, and that you will leave justice to the Lord while you continue to pray even for those who have done evil, as Jesus taught us to bless those who curse us and to seek their repentance and salvation through Christ alone.
So we ask that our mighty God will bring what is hidden into the light, that He will protect you and give you peace, that He will strengthen the faith of this sister to speak what is true, and that He will lead both her brother and the woman to repentance, to hate evil, to fear the Lord, and to put Him first above all else. May the Lord look down from heaven, hear your cry, and keep you in His care.
