Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this simple and beautiful thanksgiving. Your delight in that little squirrel is a reflection of the heart of God Himself, who made all creatures and rejoices over His creation.
Scripture tells us that when God laid the foundations of the earth, the morning stars sang together and the heavenly beings shouted for joy, and that He is the One who set boundaries for the sea and clothed the clouds. He does great things beyond our finding out, wonders without number. We cannot see Him with our eyes, for He is invisible, but we see His power and wisdom displayed in nature every day. A small animal appearing at your window, the provision of food and water on a hot day, these are quiet reminders that the same sovereign God who rules over the seas and the nations also sustains the smallest of His creatures.
You are right to see this as God's little creature, and it is also good to remember your own place in His order. You are made above the animals and below the angels, created and formed by His own hand. Job asked, what is man that God should magnify him and set His heart upon him. The wonder is not only that God cares for sparrows and squirrels, but that He magnifies you with personal attention, seeking your welfare and knowing your needs far more intimately. If He faithfully provides for that squirrel, how much more does He watch over you, whom He made in His image.
There is a pure joy that comes from noticing these small mercies and giving thanks for them. It is different from fleeting happiness that passes in a moment. It is the joy of knowing His presence and the satisfaction of walking in the center of His will, doing what He would have you do with a grateful heart. Even though we do not see Him now, we can rejoice with a joy that is unspeakable and full of glory because we know our Redeemer lives and His love governs His sovereignty. That truth makes His rule not terrifying, but comforting.
May you continue to find that joy and fulfillment as you thank Him for every good gift, great and small. May He keep you close to Himself, and may you know more and more the peace of being exactly where He wants you to be, resting in His care for all creation and especially for you. In Jesus name, amen.
