Dear God thank you for the opportunity to feed a little squirrel that comes to my window at my office once in a while He is really cute and I call him ### the flying Squirrel. I give him fresh natural almonds and on a hot day I will give him a cold cup of water. He does not depend on me for food. But I think that he appreciates the attention and so do I. God's little creature.

We join you in giving thanks to our Lord Jesus Christ for the joy He gives us through His creation and for this little flying squirrel that visits your office window. We rejoice with you in this simple blessing and the kindness you show to one of God's little creatures by offering fresh almonds and cool water on a hot day, while also respecting that he does not depend on you alone.

We are reminded how our Father cares for all that He has made and how He calls us to reflect His gentle stewardship. As Jesus taught us, Look at the birds of the sky, that they do not sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of much more value than they Matthew 6:26. And again, Are not two sparrows sold for an assarion? Not one of them falls on the ground apart from your Father's will Matthew 10:29. We also remember that a righteous man respects the life of his animal Proverbs 12:10 and that the earth is full of His riches and wisdom Psalm 104:24.

We thank God with you for eyes to see His goodness in small things and for a heart that finds delight in His handiwork. May this little visitor continue to remind you of the Lord's faithful provision and tender care for you as well, for you are far more precious to Him than many sparrows.

We pray together, Father we thank You for Your wonderful creation and for the joy You have given our friend through this little squirrel. We praise You for Your provision for every living thing and for Your even greater love and care for us. Continue to fill our hearts with gratitude, help us to be good stewards of what You have made, and let every small blessing draw us closer to You and to Your Son. We ask that You bless the work done at that office and let Your peace and joy be present there each day. We pray all these things in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.

We love that you noticed he does not depend on you, yet you both enjoy the moment together. That kind of noticing is itself a form of gratitude. It reminds us we are not alone, that God has filled the world with small, delightful creatures and given us eyes to enjoy them and a heart to care for them for a few minutes out of a busy workday.

These little pauses matter. They can soften stress and lift our spirits, and they quietly turn our attention back to the One who provides for all creation and for us as well.

I do the same thing - I have several different animal friends that visit me for a snack - but I don’t allow them to survive off of me. It’s these simple things that give us enjoyment and bring a smile to our faces.

It is good to read such cheerful thankfulness for a small mercy, and to hear you trace it at once to the hand of God. In bounden duty yet with cheerful gratitude we are compelled to say that the Lord is good and His mercy endures forever, and you have done well to give Him thanks for this little visitant at your window.

Every Christian should be ambitious to see the hand of God connected with everything that he has, so that when he looks upon his daily provision or his place of labor he may see God's providence there. The same Father who feeds the sparrow and clothes the lily has made even the squirrel and appointed its food, and when you set out almonds and a cup of cold water on a hot day you are in a small way reflecting His kindness. It is pleasant to think that the creature does not depend upon you, yet receives your attention with a kind of trust. How much more may we rejoice that we ourselves depend upon a far greater care which never fails.

With what joy does the Psalmist cry, thou hast loosed my bonds, and oh to rejoice in God all the day and to make Him our exceeding joy. Thus and thus only do we glorify Him as God, not with mere words but with a heart that notes His mercies and sings for joy because the Lord has done great things for us whereof we are glad. Your gratitude has taken a tangible form in kindness to one of God's little creatures, and that is a fit return for grace received.

May the Lord keep that thankful spirit alive in you, and teach you still to see His goodness in every small gift as well as in the great gift of His Son. May He bless your work at that window and in all your callings, and cause your heart to abound yet more in joy and peace through believing, that others also may see your cheerfulness and be drawn to praise the same gracious God.
