Thank you Jesus Christ

You give thanks for a night’s rest and for help in your tasks, and this is good. But I would have you consider the weightier matters. You ask God to soften the hearts of your bosses, your coworkers, your customers, and especially your wife. Yet what of your own heart? You pray for deliverance from excessive drinking, and for your wife and son from alcohol and cigarettes, fearing sickness and death. That fear is not groundless, but the cure lies not in mere wishes. There is no need of long journeys or great expense; it is enough to have the will, and all is done. Put a bridle on your appetite, cast off disorderly lusts, and habitual indulgence. For you were delivered from sin that you might no more return to that dishonor. If a sick man uses his recovered health only to fall back into the same illness, is he not worse than before? So too, do not treat God’s mercy as license to continue in what you know harms you.

Why do you point at the habits of your wife and son? Are you yourself free? You ask for help with what you call AUD, yet the malady of your soul is the same root: a love of ease that yields to desire. You would soften others’ hearts, but first let your own be softened by true repentance. The love of many waxes cold when iniquity abounds, and a man can become more ferocious than beasts toward his own flesh and blood by negligence. Do not be led captive by divers lusts, the lust of pleasure, of self-will, of escape from trouble, for these make a person light and easily deceived, nothing like a man who stands firm. Yet do not despair: the physician is able to cure even the rich and the entrenched. Things impossible with men are possible with God. The sick can become healthy, and he that thinks he stands must take heed lest he fall. So watch and be sober.

Let not your prayer be merely for outward ease, but for the uprooting of the love of excess. Wealth and poverty are nothing in themselves; it is the use that brings virtue or vice. One who uses what he has aright, whether little or much, will find the pursuit of virtue less laborious when he ceases to cling. Therefore, use this very struggle as your training: bridle your tongue from unseasonable reproaches, bridle your appetite from what destroys the body, and let your moderation be evident to your household. Then your example may speak louder than your fears. And give thanks not only for a night’s rest, but for the grace that enables you, with small means, to gain great reward. For he that brought but two talents and worked with them was honored equally with him who brought five. So do not wait for others to change; be the first. By God’s grace, what seems impossible is made possible, if you will only be in earnest and of ready mind.

I can hear the gratitude in your heart for the simple but profound gift of a good night’s rest and the clarity to handle your work. It is right to thank the Lord for these daily provisions. They are not small mercies; they are evidence of His personal care for you.

You are also carrying a heavy burden for your wife and your adult son, and you’re honest about your own struggle. That burden is a weight on your soul, and it’s connected to the physical health you’re praying for. There is a deep link between the prosperity of the soul and the well-being of the body. A heart filled with joy and peace is like medicine, but anxiety and fear can change the body’s chemistry. That’s not a magic formula; it’s how God designed us. You cannot always draw a straight line between a person’s devotion and their physical condition. Some of the most faithful believers walk through severe health trials, and it is not a mark against their faith. But for the things you’re describing, the habits that hold your family captive, the connection is real. They are not just physical risks; they are chains that tighten around the soul.

Let go of any lie that says you cannot be a child of God while you are bound by a habit like AUD or that your wife and son are beyond His reach because of cigarettes and alcohol. That kind of thinking becomes a self-fulfilling prison. The enemy whispers that you have to clean yourself up before you can come to Jesus. The truth is, you come to Him right in the middle of the mess, and He does the cleansing. The way in is open right now. A person doesn’t fall into addiction because they planned to become a slave. They meddle with something, a substance they think they can control, and a portion of their defenses is silently destroyed. Soon, the power to resist is gone, and they find themselves a hostage. A smoker outside a restaurant, taking desperate quick puffs before going in, is not enjoying a vice; he is answering a master. The same is true for the bottle. It promises escape but only builds a deeper cage.

Your prayer for their health is really a prayer for their freedom. But their bodies won’t be free until their souls find a greater satisfaction. You cannot just wish away the desire. The cigarette and the drink are filling a hunger that only the bread of life can satisfy. The ultimate issue isn’t cancer or sickness, as terrible as those are. The tragedy is a life snuffed out in its prime, a life that seems to have so much ahead of it, being cut short by the very things it trusted for comfort. We cannot fully understand God’s ways in these things. A young life can be taken, and we are left with our questions. But God’s ways are not our ways, and His mercy runs deeper than the deepest habit.

Your responsibility to your family is holy. The command is clear: to take care of your own, to pray for them, to provide for them, and to love them. If you don’t do that, you are denying the core of the faith. But your role is to be a faithful presence, not their savior. You are a vessel of prayer, not the potter who shapes the clay. A wise prayer is to never be blessed beyond your capacity to maintain your devotion to God. A fourth of a fifth, a fresh pack, a lighter, and a handful of cash mean nothing when a life is over. They stay right here. But a soul, freed and alive in Christ, crosses the threshold.

Keep praying to be a better man, husband, father, and employee. That is a prayer God delights to answer because it is a shaping of your soul into the image of His Son. Let that renewed mind be your witness. As your own soul prospers in walking in truth, you will find a strength to love them that isn’t based on their response. Your faithfulness becomes the steady ground under their feet, pointing to a house not made with hands. Do not grow weary. The Lord who gave you a peaceful night will give you a hope that does not fail.

Thank you for your words and advice I so appreciate you and this service and I pray for everyone else who needs help. Peace be with you my friend 🙏

We are so grateful that you shared your heart with us and allowed us to stand with you in prayer these past few days. It is a true blessing to lift your needs before our Heavenly Father, especially knowing how deeply you care for your family, your work, and your own walk with the Lord.

We have been praying for your rest, your projects, and the favor of those around you—your bosses, coworkers, customers, and especially your precious wife. We continue to ask the Lord to soften hearts and open doors in ways only He can. We have also been interceding for your hearing (your AUD) and for your wife and adult son, asking God to break any chains of dependence on alcohol and cigarettes, protecting them from harm and drawing them closer to His healing grace. Most of all, we have prayed that you would grow in Christlikeness—as a husband, father, employee, and man of God—reflecting His love and strength in every area of your life.

If the Lord has already moved in any of these areas, we would love to hear your praise report so we can rejoice with you! If you’re still waiting on His perfect timing, please know we are here to keep praying. You are not alone in this. We encourage you to post this request again if you’d like fresh prayers lifted up on your behalf.

May the Lord continue to bless you, strengthen you, and fill you with His peace as you seek Him. We trust that He is working even now, in ways seen and unseen. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
