Temptation

We hear your heart and we stand with you in this battle, for we know that temptation is real and the enemy is real, but our God is greater and He has not left you alone in this time. You are not the only one to face this, and being tempted is not itself sin, but we are called to resist and to overcome through Christ.

The scripture tells us, No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13. That promise is for you right now, that even in this strong temptation God is faithful to provide a way out if you will look for it and take it. We are also told, Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8, and also, Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7. The way to resist is not in our own strength but by submitting ourselves fully to God, by putting on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 6:11.

We encourage you to watch and pray, that you do not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. Matthew 26:41. Draw near to God through His Word, through prayer, and through fleeing the very place or situation of temptation when you can. Fill your mind with scripture, turn immediately to prayer when the temptation comes, and seek fellowship with other believers who can help bear your burden and keep you accountable. Our Lord Jesus Himself was tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin, so He understands and He is able to help those who are tempted, and we can draw near with boldness to the throne of grace to receive mercy and grace in time of need. Hebrews 4:15, Hebrews 4:16.

We notice your request does not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and power over the enemy. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6, and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If you have not already, place your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and call upon His name, for whoever calls on Him will be saved and will have His strength to overcome.

We pray together for you now. Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one who is feeling the heavy pressure of temptation. We rebuke the work of the devil in this life and we ask You to break his influence and lies. Lord, strengthen this heart to submit fully to You, to resist the enemy, and to see and take the way of escape that You promise to provide. Fill this mind with Your truth, guard this heart with Your peace, and empower this life by Your Holy Spirit to walk in holiness and victory. Help this one to watch and pray, to stay in Your Word, and to walk in the light with other believers. We thank You that You are faithful and that You will not allow more than can be endured, and that Your grace is sufficient. We ask for deliverance, for endurance, and for joy in overcoming through Christ. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to keep seeking Him daily, to memorize scripture to use when temptation comes, and to reach out quickly to a trusted Christian believer when you feel tempted so you are not fighting alone. God is with you and He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4.

Thank you for being honest about what you are facing. It takes courage to name temptation out loud, and we are glad you did. Feeling pressed in this season does not mean you have failed or that you are alone. Many believers walk through stretches where the pull feels strong and persistent, and God sees your desire to turn toward Him instead.

One thing that has helped others is to think of this less as a moment to simply try harder and more as training over time, like preparing for a long race. Small, steady practices build strength for the harder moments. That might look like a brief time each morning to pray honestly and hear from God in His Word, and staying close to other believers who know you and can encourage you.

It can also help to have a simple plan for when temptation comes. You might decide ahead of time to step away from the situation, pray a short honest prayer, and reach out to one trusted Christian friend or pastor that week to share what you are carrying. You do not have to carry this privately.

We are praying for you.

Father, we lift our brother before You. You know the pressure he feels and his desire to honor You. Give him wisdom to see the way forward, strength for each moment of choice, and the comfort of knowing he is not alone. Keep him close to You and surround him with supportive people. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is much comfort for you in knowing that what you feel does not mark you as cast away, for God had one Son without sin, but He never had a son without temptation. Our Savior Himself was tempted of the devil, and He knows what temptation means, having been led into the wilderness to be tried. Therefore He is able to succor them that are tempted, and He has taught us to pray, Lead us not into temptation.

You do well to ask for prayer, for our Lord admonished His disciples, Pray that ye enter not into temptation. The devil tempts men that he may ruin them, but God permits trial for probation, that the chaff may be sifted from the wheat and the fine gold separated from the dross. Temptation in itself is perilous, and it is right for the Christian to cry to be spared from too great trials lest patience or faith should fail.

Take heed that you watch as well as pray. Temptation, like a creeping assassin, has its dagger for solitary hearts, and temptations in troops cause their arrows to fly by day. Solitude is no preservative against the tempter, and a high and holy place may yet be a place of double danger. See that you bolt and bar the door well if you would keep out the devil, and never go into temptation of your own accord, for the man who prays Lead us not into temptation and then runs into it speaks falsely before God. Do not court temptation by boasting in your own strength, for the devil has only to touch you in the right place and the feeble building of your own virtue will come down.

Remember also that to be tempted is not itself sin. The devil may tempt you, but that is no sin of yours if your will does not yield to it. The responsibility lies with the will. Sin is the work of the devil, such work as exhibits his nature, and for this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. He has broken the power of the destroyer, and He will give you a way of escape that you may be able to bear it.

We will pray for you that the Lord will not withdraw His grace from you in this hour, but will fill you with His Spirit, for there is never a better time to fight the devil than when you are filled with the Spirit. May He keep you from presumption and from despair, guard your faith when the tempter whispers his If, and deliver you from evil. May He lead you not into temptation, but deliver you, and make you watchful in private and in public, till the trial proves your faith and He brings great good out of it for His glory.

We join our faith with yours, asking that Christ who overcame the tempter in the wilderness would now overcome for you, and yield to your conquering prayer as He yielded to those who cried to Him of old.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thank you for sharing your heart and asking for prayer in this time of temptation. You are not alone in this struggle, and it is good that you have reached out.

Scripture teaches that temptation itself is not unexpected, even after we have come to Christ. Jesus Himself was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil, and He endured it for our instruction, so that we would not be troubled as if something strange were happening when we face greater temptations, but would endure nobly. The same Scriptures also give this comfort, there has no temptation taken you but such as is common to man, but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make a way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

That promise shows two things. First, God limits the temptation and provides the way out, giving patience and a speedy release so that it becomes bearable. Second, we are called to watch and pray that we enter not into temptation, asking the Lord for deliverance and strength.

The enemy most often assails us when we are isolated and alone, just as he approached the woman when she was apart, and he is less confident when we are banded together. For this reason it is so important to stay closely connected to the fellowship of believers, to flock together continually in worship, in prayer, and in honest community, so that you are not open to his attacks. God also at times permits a season of temptation to draw us closer to Himself, to lengthen our prayer and to keep us fleeing for refuge to Him and abiding there.

We are praying for you now.

Heavenly Father, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. You see the temptation that weighs upon them and You know its strength. We ask that You would deliver them from the schemes of the devil, that You would make clear the way of escape that You have promised, and give them grace to take it. Grant patience to endure, wisdom to see the trap, and courage to turn away. Draw them close to Yourself in prayer, surround them with faithful believers who will support and encourage them, and fill them with Your Spirit so that they may stand firm. Lead them not into temptation but deliver them from evil, and let this trial result in greater trust in You. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

If the temptation persists, keep praying without ceasing, stay in the Word daily, and do not walk alone. Reach out to a trusted pastor or mature believer who can walk with you, pray with you, and help you guard your heart. God is faithful and He will help you endure.
