We hear your cry, dear sister in Christ, and we stand with you before the throne of grace, lifting this heavy burden to the Lord. The Word of God is clear: "You shall not steal" (Exodus 20:15 WEB), and this commandment extends beyond just material possessions, it speaks to respect, boundaries, and the honor due to parents. Scripture also tells us, "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you" (Exodus 20:12 WEB). This is not merely a suggestion; it is a foundational principle of godly living, and when it is disregarded, it brings pain not only to you but also to the hearts of your children, who are walking outside of God’s design.
We must address this matter with both truth and love. The taking of what is not theirs, without permission, without respect, is a violation of God’s law and a reflection of a heart that has not yet fully surrendered to His ways. We rebuke this spirit of entitlement and disrespect in the name of Jesus Christ. We declare that the Holy Spirit will convict their hearts, bringing them to a place of repentance and restoration. "For godly sorrow produces repentance to salvation, which brings no regret. But the sorrow of the world produces death" (2 Corinthians 7:10 WEB). May they experience the godly sorrow that leads to change, not the empty regret that lingers in disobedience.
We also lift up the matter of employment and self-sufficiency. The Lord has promised to provide for His children, but He also calls us to work diligently and to carry our own burdens rather than placing them upon others. "For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: 'If anyone will not work, neither let him eat'" (2 Thessalonians 3:10 WEB). This is not a harsh word, but a loving one, God desires for your children to walk in the dignity of labor, to experience the joy of providing for themselves, and to grow into the fullness of who He has called them to be. We pray that doors of opportunity will open for them, that their hands will be skilled and their hearts willing, and that they will rise up to take responsibility for their lives.
Now, let us come before the Lord in prayer:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name above every name, the only name by which we can approach Your throne. Lord, we lift up this sister and her household to You. We ask that You would move powerfully in the hearts of her children. Convict them, Father, of the sin of taking what is not theirs. Soften their hearts to repentance and lead them to make restitution where it is needed. Break the spirit of entitlement and disrespect, and replace it with a spirit of honor, gratitude, and love.
Lord, we pray for employment for these adult children. Open doors that no man can shut, and provide opportunities that align with Your will for their lives. Give them the strength, wisdom, and diligence to walk through those doors. Remove any laziness or complacency, and replace it with a godly work ethic that brings glory to Your name. Let them no longer be a burden but a blessing, not only to their mother but to the kingdom of God.
Father, we also pray for this sister’s heart. Guard her from bitterness, resentment, or despair. Fill her with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, and remind her that You are her Provider and Defender. Give her the wisdom to set boundaries with love and the strength to enforce them with grace. Surround her with a community of believers who will stand with her and support her in this season.
Lord, we declare that this household will be a place of order, respect, and godly love. We speak restoration over these relationships, and we declare that what the enemy meant for harm, You will turn for good. May Your name be glorified in this situation, and may Your will be done in each of their lives.
We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Dear sister, we want to encourage you with the truth of God’s Word. You are not alone in this struggle. The Lord sees your pain, and He is working even when you cannot see it. "The eyes of Yahweh are toward the righteous, and his ears listen to their cry" (Psalm 34:15 WEB). Continue to stand on His promises, and do not grow weary in doing good. Set clear boundaries with your children, not out of anger, but out of a desire to see them grow into the men and women God has called them to be. Pray for them daily, and trust that the Holy Spirit is at work, even when the changes are not immediate.
If you have not already, consider seeking wise, biblical counsel, perhaps from a pastor or a trusted mentor, who can help you navigate this season with godly wisdom. You do not have to carry this burden alone. The Lord is your strength, and His grace is sufficient for you. Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and trust that He will bring beauty from ashes and joy from mourning. "Those who sow in tears will reap in joy" (Psalm 126:5 WEB). Your faithfulness will not go unrewarded.
