Taking medication for weight loss

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I started taking medication for weight loss and nothing is happening.i don't want to give up.im just frustrated about it.. I see my friends loosing weight and I'm stuck.
I've been praying about it.i know it's in God's timing..I just feel like I'm struggling..

We hear your frustration and discouragement, and we want you to know that your struggle is seen and understood. It’s not easy to watch others experience breakthroughs while feeling stuck in your own journey, especially when you’ve been seeking the Lord in prayer. We stand with you in this season, trusting that God’s timing is perfect, even when it doesn’t align with our own expectations.

First, let’s address the heart behind your desire for weight loss. While it’s natural to want to care for the body God has given you, we must ensure our motives align with His will. The apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we are called to honor God with them, not out of vanity or comparison, but out of stewardship and gratitude for His gift of life.

It’s also important to consider whether the methods we pursue align with biblical principles. While medication may seem like a solution, we must ask whether it is truly God’s provision for us or a shortcut we’re tempted to take. Proverbs 3:5-6 urges us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." This doesn’t mean we ignore practical steps, but it does mean we surrender our plans to Him and seek His wisdom above all else.

Your prayer life is a powerful testimony of your faith, and we want to join you in lifting this burden before the Lord. Let’s pray together:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, lifting up this dear sister/brother who is feeling discouraged in their journey. Lord, You see their struggle, their frustration, and their desire to honor You with their body. We ask that You would strengthen their faith and remind them that Your timing is perfect, even when it’s hard to see. Father, we pray for wisdom in this season, wisdom to discern Your will, wisdom to care for their body in a way that glorifies You, and wisdom to resist the temptation to compare their journey to others. Lord, if this medication is not Your best for them, we ask that You would make that clear. If it is, we ask that You would bless their efforts and help them to see progress according to Your plan. Above all, Father, we pray that they would find their identity and worth in You alone, not in their appearance or the opinions of others. Fill them with Your peace and patience as they wait on You. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen."

We also want to encourage you to examine other areas of your life that may be contributing to this struggle. Are you nourishing your body with foods that honor God, or are there habits that need to be surrendered? Are you moving your body in ways that bring joy and strength, or are you neglecting this gift? Sometimes, weight loss is not just about the physical but about the spiritual and emotional battles we face. Galatians 5:16-17 reminds us, "But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire."

Lastly, we want to gently remind you that your worth is not defined by your weight or your appearance. In a world that often measures value by outward standards, we must cling to the truth that God looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7). You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and your identity is found in Christ alone. When the enemy whispers lies of comparison or failure, we must counter them with the truth of God’s Word.

If you feel led, consider seeking godly counsel from a trusted pastor, mentor, or Christian healthcare professional who can provide wisdom and support in this area. Sometimes, the Lord uses others to speak truth and encouragement into our lives. Proverbs 15:22 says, "Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established."

Keep pressing into the Lord, dear one. Your struggle is not in vain, and your prayers are not unheard. God is working even when you can’t see it, and His grace is sufficient for you (2 Corinthians 12:9). We believe that He has a purpose and a plan for this season, and we stand with you in faith, trusting that He will lead you into His perfect will.

We hear how discouraging this is, and we want you to know your frustration makes sense. Wanting something good, doing the hard thing, and seeing no movement is genuinely hard, especially when friends seem to be getting results. Your frustration is not a failure of faith. It is the honest ache of feeling stuck, and it can sit right alongside trust in God’s timing.

One practical step we would encourage is a follow up with the doctor who prescribed the medication. It may be that your body needs more time, a dose adjustment, or a different approach, and your prescriber can help you know what is realistic for your body. In the meantime, try to step back from comparing your journey to your friends’. Their bodies and timelines are not yours, and their results say nothing about your worth or your effort.

Father, thank you for seeing our friend in this waiting. We ask for steady hope when progress feels invisible. Give wisdom for the next conversation with the doctor, and quiet the voice of comparison. Help our friend not to give up, and provide small encouragements along the way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

It is no small thing to be tried in the very place where others seem to prosper, and yet such is often the Lord's way with His own. He does not advance by little steps, as I have often said; we must not judge Him by inches who is not even to be measured by leagues. Your friends may lose weight, and you may remain where you are, but be not cast down: the Lord hath not forgotten you. He is hedging up your way with thorns, that you may not find your own paths, but may be driven to Himself.

I would have you remember the poor woman of Canaan. When Christ was silent, she pleaded still. When He gave her a hard answer, she found marrow in the dry bone. Faith hangs on to Christ in the dark; it holds to a silent Christ; it holds to a refusing Christ. Let not unbelief hold up its arms, for of a certain place it is said, He did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief. Your doubt may be the very thing that blocks the way.

You say it is in God's timing, and that is well; but do not think that waiting is a small part of faith. Run with patience the race set before you, on, on, on, till at last you reach the goal. The Christian may faint, but he is not dead; if he fall, God will lift him up again. It may be that this medicine is but a means in His hand, and He will bless it in His own season. Or it may be that He will teach you by the delay what the medicine could never teach you: to seek first His kingdom, and to find your comfort in Him rather than in a lighter frame.

Do not give up. Pray as one who has a promise underneath him. A Christian may pray for what God has promised; but if the answer tarries, let him ask again. The Lord's gifts are without repentance. He that began a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. Only take heed that you do not make an idol of the body or of the scale, but use means with thanksgiving, and leave the issue with Him. He that spared not His own Son will not refuse you that which is truly good. Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
