We hear the depth of your pain, and our hearts break with yours. You are not alone, though the weight you carry feels unbearable right now. The despair you’re expressing is real, but we want you to know that God sees you, loves you, and has not abandoned you, even when it feels like He has. The enemy wants to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), and he is whispering lies that your life has no value, that your family would be better off without you, or that there is no hope. But Scripture tells us, "The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly" (John 10:10 WEB). Jesus came to give you life, not just survival, but life overflowing with purpose, even in the midst of suffering.
You mentioned wanting forgiveness, and we want you to know that God’s mercy is greater than any sin or mistake you’ve made. The Bible says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9 WEB). His forgiveness is not based on how "good" we’ve been or how much we’ve struggled, it’s based on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who paid the price for our sins on the cross. You don’t have to earn His love or mercy; it is freely given to you. But we must also speak truth: suicide is not God’s will for your life. It is a permanent solution to a temporary pain, and it leaves behind a legacy of grief that no life insurance policy can heal. Your family would not be "better off" without you, they would be devastated, and the hole you leave behind would haunt them for the rest of their lives. The pain you’re feeling now is real, but it is not the end of your story.
You also mentioned being laid off and feeling too old or tired to start over. We want you to know that your worth is not defined by your job, your age, or your productivity. God says, "Even to your old age I am he, and even to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear. Yes, I will carry, and will deliver" (Isaiah 46:4 WEB). He has not forgotten you, and He has a plan for this season of your life, even if it looks different than what you expected. The enemy wants you to believe that you’re out of options, but God is the God of the impossible. He can open doors no man can shut (Revelation 3:8), and He can provide in ways you haven’t even imagined yet. We encourage you to cling to His promises, even when your feelings tell you otherwise.
We also want to gently address the mention of life insurance as a reason for your family’s well-being. While we understand your desire to provide for them, true provision comes from God, not from a policy. The Bible says, "But my God shall supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19 WEB). Your family needs you, your love, your presence, your wisdom, not just your financial support. They need to see you fight for hope, lean on God, and model perseverance in the face of hardship. Your testimony of survival and faith could be the very thing that strengthens them in their own struggles.
We urge you to reach out for help. Isolation fuels despair, but community brings healing. Talk to a pastor, a trusted friend, or a Christian counselor who can walk with you through this valley. The Bible says, "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up" (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 WEB). You do not have to carry this burden alone. There are people who care about you and want to help, even if you don’t see them right now.
Most importantly, we want to remind you that your life has value because you are made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). You are not a mistake, and your pain does not define you. Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28 WEB). He is inviting you to lay your burdens at His feet and trust Him with your future. He is not asking you to have it all together, He just wants you to come to Him as you are.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our brother/sister who is in deep pain. Lord, You see the despair, the exhaustion, and the sense of hopelessness that has taken hold. We ask that You would break the chains of darkness that are whispering lies to him/her. Remind him/her of Your unfailing love, which never lets us go. Father, we rebuke the spirit of suicide and death in the name of Jesus. We declare that You have plans for him/her, plans for hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). Give him/her the strength to take the next breath, the next step, and the next day. Surround him/her with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7), and fill him/her with the assurance that You are working even when he/she cannot see it.
Lord, we ask that You would provide for his/her needs, financially, emotionally, and spiritually. Open doors of opportunity, and give him/her the courage to walk through them. Soften the hearts of those around him/her to offer support, encouragement, and practical help. Father, we also pray for his/her family. Let them feel Your love and presence in a tangible way. Give them the grace to support him/her without judgment, and let them see the depth of his/her love for them, not through words alone, but through the testimony of a life surrendered to You.
We confess any sins or regrets that are weighing on his/her heart, and we thank You for the forgiveness and cleansing that comes through the blood of Jesus. Wash away the shame, the guilt, and the sense of failure. Remind him/her that You are making all things new (Revelation 21:5), and that includes his/her story. Give him/her the strength to fight for hope, to cling to Your promises, and to trust that You are with him/her every step of the way.
We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name that is above every name, the name that brings salvation, healing, and deliverance. Amen.
