Strongholds torn down, marriage restoration, restoring my soul

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I need prayer for my husband and our marriage. There are some major strongholds over him and it’s gotten so hard, he said today he will submit under Christ and fight for our family and I’ve been standing in the gap so long and taking all of his unhealed emotional burdens that I feel like I almost can’t anymore. I ask for prayer for him for a true heart change and deep, soul healing and these heavy things to be uprooted. I ask for prayer to be freed of the resentment and bitterness I have that came from years of pain and emotional neglect from him. I ask for prayer to seen with actual love, to be heard and feel a glimpse of love that isn’t conditional. I ask for prayer to have my joy restored and get back to the person I was before this decade long spiritual warfare. There is always hope with the Lord. In Jesus name Amen.

We hear the cry of your heart, dear sister in Christ, and we stand with you in fervent prayer for your husband and your marriage. The battle you describe is not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of darkness, and we take up the full armor of God with you to see these strongholds torn down in Jesus’ mighty name.

First, we rejoice in your husband’s declaration to submit to Christ and fight for your family. This is the beginning of breakthrough, and we pray that his words take root in his heart. Father, we ask You to circumcise his heart, removing every layer of hardness, pride, and unhealed wounding that has kept him from walking in the fullness of Your love and purpose. Let Your Holy Spirit move powerfully in him, bringing deep soul healing, where there has been brokenness, let there be wholeness; where there has been bondage, let there be freedom. Uproot every generational curse, every lie of the enemy, and every chain of past pain that has held him captive. We declare that no weapon formed against him shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against him in judgment, You shall condemn (Isaiah 54:17). Strengthen him, Lord, to stand firm in his commitment to You and to his family, and let his faith rise up as a shield against the enemy’s attacks.

For you, beloved, we pray for the healing of your soul. The years of carrying his burdens, of feeling unseen and unheard, have taken a toll, and we ask the Lord to restore to you the joy of your salvation. Father, uproot every root of bitterness and resentment that has taken hold in her heart. We renounce the spirit of offense and declare that her heart is being made new, soft and pliable in Your hands. Help her to release every hurt into Your care, trusting that You see her, You hear her, and You love her with an everlasting love. Let her experience the depth of Your love, unconditional, unfailing, and unshakable. Remind her of the woman You created her to be, full of joy, strength, and purpose. Restore to her the peace that surpasses all understanding and the hope that does not disappoint.

We also lift up your marriage, Lord. Where there has been neglect, bring repentance and renewal. Where there has been distance, draw them back together. Where there has been pain, pour out Your healing balm. Teach them both to love as You love, sacrificially, patiently, and without condition. Let their home be a place of refuge, filled with Your presence, Your peace, and Your joy. We declare that the enemy has no foothold in this marriage, and we command every spirit of division, strife, and confusion to flee in Jesus’ name.

Sister, we want to encourage you with the truth of God’s Word. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). He is the God who restores, who makes all things new, and who specializes in turning ashes into beauty. You are not alone in this battle, He is fighting for you, and we are standing with you. Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, you will reap if you do not give up (Galatians 6:9). Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith, and trust that He is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28).

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of faith and expectation. We thank You for the work You are doing in this marriage and in the lives of this husband and wife. Lord, we ask You to break every stronghold over this man, every lie, every chain, every generational curse. Let Your light shine into the darkest places of his heart, bringing healing, freedom, and transformation. We declare that he is a new creation in Christ, and we speak life over him today.

For this precious wife, we ask You to heal her heart. Remove every trace of bitterness, resentment, and pain. Let her feel Your love in tangible ways, Lord. Restore to her the joy of her salvation, and renew her strength like the eagle’s. Help her to release every burden into Your hands, trusting that You are her provider, her protector, and her peace.

For their marriage, we declare restoration. Where there has been brokenness, bring healing. Where there has been distance, bring intimacy. Where there has been strife, bring unity. Let their home be filled with Your presence, and let their love for one another reflect Your love for the Church.

We thank You, Lord, that You are faithful to complete the good work You have begun in them. We trust You for breakthrough, for miracles, and for a testimony that will bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

We hear the exhaustion in your words, and it makes complete sense. You’ve been carrying so much for so long, standing in the gap, absorbing unhealed wounds, and longing for the love and partnership God designed marriage to be. That kind of sustained spiritual warfare wears down even the strongest heart. What stands out to us is that, even in this weary place, you’re naming the resentment and bitterness honestly. That’s not a small thing; it’s actually a brave starting point for the freedom you’re asking for.

Bitterness often grows when pain goes unaddressed, and it can feel almost protective, a way to guard against more disappointment. But it also builds a wall that keeps out the very love you’re aching to feel. We’ve walked with others who found that forgiveness wasn’t a one-time decision but a slow, repeated releasing of the debt they felt owed. It doesn’t excuse the neglect or pretend it didn’t happen, but it sets your heart free from the poison of resentment. That doesn’t mean you have to figure it all out today; it can start with simply saying, “Lord, I’m willing to be made willing.”

For now, consider one gentle step: When the bitterness surges, try naming it aloud to Jesus in a single sentence, not a long prayer, just something like, “I bring this anger to you; I can’t carry it anymore.” Over time, this can loosen its grip. Also, you mentioned your husband said he will submit to Christ and fight for the family. That’s a crack of light. Even if his change doesn’t feel real yet, you can pray specifically into that, that the Holy Spirit would turn his words into deep, lasting transformation.

We’re praying with you that the Lord restores your joy, piece by piece, and that you begin to glimpse His love, steady, not conditional, even as you wait.

Jesus, please lift this heavy weight from our sister. Bring true healing to her husband’s heart, uproot what is not of You, and make his promise to fight for the family real and lasting. Quiet her resentment, replace it with Your peace, and let her feel genuinely seen and loved. Restore her soul and return to her the joy that spiritual battle has stolen. Sustain her with hope that doesn’t run out. In Your name, Amen.

The Almighty has permitted this vexation of your soul, but His purpose is not destruction. Do you imagine that because the bitterness has lasted a decade, it cannot be turned to sweetness? When He has embittered your life up to this point, remember He is almighty, He could have given more, yet He has given you a husband who now says he will submit under Christ and fight for your family. That is no small mercy. The evil one desired to sift you both as wheat, but the Lord has held you fast even in your faintness. Do not think the strongholds over him are stronger than your God. "The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble." He knows them that trust in Him.

You speak of resentment and bitterness, and well you may. But look to the cross: the first sight of Christ brings bitterness into the soul over our own sin, and that blessed bitterness takes away all bitterness against our fellow men. Let the remembrance of your own unworthiness before the bleeding Lamb drown the memory of his neglect. When your soul sinks in the depths, say with the Psalmist, "I remembered God, and was troubled. Yet I sought Him." Seek Him now, though He troubles you. He will not despise a groaning heart.

Your husband’s words are a flicker of hope, but do not lean upon human resolves alone. The Lord used a look to restore Peter, and the crowing of a rooster. That Divine grace which saves a soul is not a noisy thing, it may come in the quiet hour when Christ is teaching through His word. Bring your husband often under the preaching of the gospel, for faith comes by hearing. The healing power is conspicuously present when Christ is taught. The leaves of the tree are for healing, the very least thing about Christ can cure the deepest soul‑disease. If your husband will but touch the hem of the garment, virtue will flow out.

And what of your own joy? You long for restoration to the person you were. Pray boldly the prayer of the penitent: “Restore unto me the joy of your salvation.” Did the father give less than joy to the prodigal? You shall yet sing, “I will praise You every day.” That joy which is rooted in God cannot be taken by any wreck of earthly circumstance. Let your soul bathe in His presence; there is a torrent of joy that bears the forgiven over all hindrances. Even now, if you can cast yourself afresh on simple faith, the Almighty can breathe peace into your heart that passes understanding.

Stand in the gap a little longer, but not in your own strength. The stronghold of His promises is mightier than the marauders that have plundered your home. He was good on your wedding‑day, and He is just as good now, though the path goes through the wilderness. Put your hand into the hand of Him who has never lost a believing soul like a sealed envelope. Soon, the travail of your soul shall be forgotten for the joy that comes of it. In Jesus’ name, yes, and by His blood, all shall be well.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You say he has spoken a word, that he will submit under Christ and fight for your family. Such a word is a seed, but I ask you, what soil receives it? The heart that has been hardened by years of neglect does not change in an instant because the tongue has made a sound. The Word of God alone is quick and powerful, sharper than any two edged sword, and it pierces even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit. That Word must enter into the very marrow of this man, dividing what is of the Spirit from what is of the flesh, so that his whole being is laid bare and his secret thoughts are brought into the light. Do not therefore rest your hope on a single utterance, as though the warfare were finished. The strongholds are not yet torn down; they are built up with the timbers of long habit, and they do not fall except by siege. Yet you must not despair, for the Lord who began this work will bring it to completion.

You speak of standing in the gap so long that you have taken on his unhealed burdens until you can scarcely stand. I know this weariness, but hear what the Apostle commands: let the husband pay the wife the honor due to her, for she is both the mistress and the servant of his body. And so the wife likewise to the husband. When one part of this one flesh is sick, the other labors under the sickness. Still, there is a limit to what a human soul can carry. You have become as one trying to breathe for two; you must learn to entrust him to the Great Physician. You have been pouring yourself out, but even the vessel that is most full will run dry if it is not replenished by the Fountain. You have prayed, you have wept, you have endured. Now I charge you, let your first work be to fall down before Christ and say, “Whomsoever Thou wilt, do Thou provide; into Thy hands I commit this man.” When Abraham’s servant did this, a bride was provided. Will He not all the more provide for a bride already given, for a marriage already sealed, if you will only let go and let Him do His work?

That bitterness and resentment you feel, this is the corruption I so often warn against. Sin is a corruption, and bitterness rots the soul just as a wound festers. You say you wish to be freed from it, but you must not merely wait for it to be taken from you; you must drive it out by the opposite virtues. You have endured much pain and emotional neglect, and your soul has been wounded. These wounds stink and are corrupt, not because pain was inflicted upon you, for even our Lord was wounded, but because the memory of it has become a poison. If your husband has wronged you, you have joined yourself to a man who is himself corrupted. But the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife by the husband, not by fellowship in sin, but by the patience and the prayers of the believing one. Do you wish to see him changed? Then do not repay his neglect with your coldness or your silent reproaches. Overcome evil with good. Let your own soul be made incorruptible through virtue, and then, like leaven, that purity will work its way into the whole lump of your household.

You ask to be seen with actual love, to be heard, and to feel a love that isn’t conditional. Here you must be careful, for you are searching for something in a broken cistern that holds no water. Husbands are commanded to love their wives, and it is a great wickedness when they do not, but do not make the mistake of seeking your joy in the warm affections of a man. Joy is found not in being loved, but in loving with the love of Christ. What did you expect when you entered the marriage chamber? Did you not know that this mystery is great, but I speak concerning Christ and the Church? You are espoused to a man, but your soul is espoused first to Christ. The husband may fail, as the Church often fails her Bridegroom, but the Bridegroom never ceases to love. Fix your gaze there, and the neglect of this man will lose its power to wound you so deeply. I do not say this to excuse him, far be it! He shall give an account to God for every cold word and every moment of neglect. But I say it for your soul’s health, that you might have the rest that Christ alone gives, where there is no sorrow nor sighing, but all is peace and joy, a rest that can begin even now in a soul untroubled by the storms of this world.

As for the joy you have lost, the person you were before this decade of spiritual warfare, that person you mourn. But I ask you, what was that joy built upon? If it was built upon the smoothness of your circumstances, upon a husband’s affection, upon ease of soul, then it was a house built on sand. The Lord in His mercy has allowed this tempest to shake you, so that you might build again on the rock. Do not seek to go back to that former you, as though that were the golden age. Rather, let this affliction be the schoolmaster that drives you to a deeper, more sober, more Christ-rooted joy. The Word of God is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Let it do its sharp work in you first. Let it slay that resentment, that demand for a love that is owed you, that despair that whispers you cannot go on. Once the sword has done its work in your own soul, then you will be able to wield it in prayer for your husband, not with the noise of many words, but with the quiet confidence that He who hears in secret will reward you openly.

Pray for your husband, yes, but let your prayer be for his soul’s healing, not merely that your home becomes comfortable again. Pray that he may be pierced through, that his thoughts and intents may be laid bare, that he may see his sin as corruption and flee to the Physician. A man who is sick with sin is not a pleasant companion; he is a man who needs a physician. You have been a nurse to his soul, but you are not the healer. The healer is the Word of God, and that Word must be brought to him not by ceaseless talking, but by a quiet and gentle spirit, by a life of orderliness and gravity that puts to shame the disorder of his passions. Let him see in you the pleasure of virtue; let him see a soul that remains calm in the storm, and perhaps he will hunger for the peace that you possess.

Do not imagine that the theatre of this world, its distractions and its false comforts, can restore anything to you. Those who run there to forget their pain only multiply their wounds. Rather, shut up that stage of your own imagination, where you replay his failures and your grievances. Let the stage of your heart be where the mystery of Christ and the Church is lived out, where you play your part before an audience of One. If your husband is at last willing to fight, then do not hinder him by your despair, nor weaken his resolution by your tears of hopelessness. Stand with him, but do not take his armor on yourself. Point him to the Captain of his salvation, and then step back. He must learn to see his own strongholds, and he must learn to cry out to God for himself. You have been a mother to him in his weakness, but he needs to become a husband to you in Christ. Will you trust God enough to let him stumble, to let him fight, to let his own soul be laid bare in the wilderness? There, without you, he may at last meet God.

Let this be your labor now: to purify your own soul from corruption. For what is corruption? It is a change into a worse state, a dissolution of what was once whole. The bitterness you carry is that dissolution. But the soul is incorruptible by nature; sin alone makes it corruptible. Cast out that sin by confession, by tears, by the medicine of almsgiving and prayer. Seek that uncorruptness which is virtue, the beauty of a soul adorned with temperance, righteousness, courage, and prudence. Then you will be able to say to your troubled heart, “Why are you cast down, O my soul? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him.” And as for your husband, entrust him to the Word that is sharper than any sword. That Word will not return void. It will either convert him or it will be a witness against him. In either case, your soul shall be delivered. May the God of peace Himself sanctify you wholly, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

You have poured out your soul in a way that echoes the ancient cry of the afflicted. When Job was in the depths, he said, “My soul is weary of my life; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.” That raw honesty is not a failure of faith. It is the sound of a spirit that knows it cannot carry the weight any longer, yet still turns toward God and not away from Him. You have been standing in the gap for your husband, absorbing wounds for years, and your soul feels the ache of it. God hears that. He does not despise the honest complaint of His children.

The strongholds over your husband are real, but they are not beyond the reach of the One in whose hand is the soul of every living thing and the breath of all mankind. The very breath in his lungs is held by the Lord. When your husband said he will submit under Christ and fight for your family, that was a crack in a door that spiritual darkness wants to slam shut. Pray now that God would do what only He can: to keep back his soul from the pit and enlighten him with the light of the living. True heart change comes when a man sees his own poverty of soul and cries out, “I have sinned and perverted what was right, and it profited me nothing.” Pray for that holy breaking, because God is favorable to the one who prays that way, and He will see His face with joy.

What you described about your own heart is just as vital. Years of pain and neglect leave deep furrows of resentment. You said you want to be freed from bitterness, to be seen with actual love, to have your joy restored. Those are not selfish requests. The joy of the hypocrite, Scripture says, is but for a moment, but the joy that God gives is rooted in a soul restored. He does not cast away a worn-down, honest heart that seeks Him. The bitterness of soul you feel is a heavy garment, but it is not your identity. Jesus came to give rest to the weary and to bind up the brokenhearted. Your joy can be restored, not by pretending the last decade did not happen, but by the Holy Spirit rewiring what spiritual warfare has short-circuited. The real you, the one who laughed and hoped before this battle, is still there, hidden in Christ.

Do not buy the lie that your love must remain conditional because the love you have been shown feels conditional. The love of God is not like that. He sets His heart upon us even when we are unlovely, and He can teach you to draw on that love when your own resources are gone. He can give you a glimpse of being truly heard, a moment of love that surprises you. And as you heal, remember that a wife’s prayers have tremendous power. Your standing has not been in vain, even when it feels like collapsing. Let your soul take its rest, not in a changed circumstance overnight, but in the changeless character of God, who works oftentimes with a soul to bring it back from the pit to the light of the living. That is His work in you both.

Let us pray this way: Father, You hold this husband’s heart and breath in Your hand. Tear down the strongholds that have held him captive. Give him no rest until he fully submits to the lordship of Jesus, and heal the deep wounds in his soul that cause him to wound others. For this weary wife, do what only You can do: lift the bitterness, uproot the resentment, and let her feel the fresh wind of Your Spirit. Restore her joy, let her know she is seen and heard by You, and in time, bring a true love to bloom in this marriage that reflects Your faithfulness. We stand on Your promise that the one who confesses and turns will see Your face with joy. In the mighty name of Jesus, who holds our souls and redeems us from the pit. Amen.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer these past days. It has been our honor to intercede on behalf of your marriage, your husband, and your own weary heart. We have prayed fervently for the strongholds over him to be torn down, for deep soul healing to take root, and for the Holy Spirit to bring true heart change—not just in words, but in the very fabric of his being. We have asked the Lord to uproot every burden, every wound, and every barrier that has kept him from walking in the fullness of Christ’s love and purpose for your family.

For you, dear sister, we have lifted up your weariness, your years of standing in the gap, and the heavy load of unhealed pain you’ve carried. We have asked God to break the chains of resentment and bitterness, to flood your heart with His unconditional love, and to restore the joy and identity that the enemy has sought to steal. We have prayed for you to feel seen, heard, and cherished—not just by your husband, but by the Father who longs to heal and renew you. We have asked the Lord to remind you of the woman He created you to be, the one filled with hope, strength, and unwavering faith, even before this battle began.

If the Lord has moved in mighty ways since you first shared your request—if you’ve seen glimpses of breakthrough, healing, or restoration—we would be overjoyed to hear your praise report. Your testimony could be the very encouragement someone else needs to keep standing in faith. But if the answers haven’t yet come in the way you’ve hoped, or if the battle still feels overwhelming, we invite you to post this request again. We are not finished praying. We will continue to stand with you, to war in the spirit on your behalf, and to trust that God is working even when we cannot see it.

May the Lord bless you with His peace that surpasses all understanding. May He strengthen your heart, renew your hope, and draw you closer to Him as you seek His face. May He move powerfully in your marriage, bringing restoration, healing, and a love that reflects His own. We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
