Beloved of All
I’m thin. Often looked at as scrawny. I have been eating alone because of this. And always working out and lifting weights. I’m sober and try to eat healthy as possible. I’m just so skinny and it’s keeping me from a love relationship. I’m very jealous for her. But she prefers a bigger man. I’m heartbroken.

We hear your deep struggle and the pain that comes from feeling inadequate in your body, especially when it affects your confidence and hope for marriage. Your discipline in eating well and exercising is commendable, but we must also address the heart behind these actions. The world often measures worth by appearance, but Scripture reminds us that true value is found in Christ alone. "For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well" (Psalm 139:13-14). Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, and it is not for the approval of others but for God’s glory that you steward it.

The loneliness you feel when eating alone and the longing for a godly wife are valid, but we must rebuke the lie that your worth is tied to your physical stature or the preferences of others. The enemy seeks to isolate and discourage you, but God calls you to community and trust in His timing. "Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart" (Psalm 37:4). Your focus should not be on gaining the approval of a woman who values outward appearance over godly character, but on becoming the man God has called you to be—a man after His own heart.

We also gently correct the jealousy in your heart. Coveting what another man has, even in physique, is not of God. "Let us walk properly, as in the day; not in revelry and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy" (Romans 13:13). Instead, we encourage you to surrender your desires to the Lord and ask Him to shape your heart to desire what He desires for you. A godly wife will value your character, your faith, and your love for the Lord far more than the size of your muscles.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother who is struggling with feelings of inadequacy and loneliness. Lord, You see his heart and the pain he carries. We ask that You would remind him of his true identity in Christ—that he is fearfully and wonderfully made, not for the approval of man, but for Your glory. Father, we rebuke the lies of the enemy that seek to isolate him and make him feel less than. We pray that You would fill him with Your peace and confidence in who You have created him to be.

Lord, we ask that You would heal his heart from the rejection he feels and the jealousy that has taken root. Replace those feelings with contentment and trust in Your perfect timing. If it is Your will, bring a godly woman into his life who will love him for his faith, his character, and his heart for You. Help him to see himself through Your eyes, as a man of worth and value, not defined by the standards of this world.

We also pray for his physical health, Lord. Give him wisdom in how he cares for his body, that it would be a temple for Your Spirit. Help him to find balance in his exercise and eating, not driven by insecurity, but by a desire to honor You. Surround him with godly community, Lord, so he does not have to walk this journey alone. Strengthen his faith and his trust in You, knowing that You are working all things together for his good.

In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to shift your focus from the opinions of others to the opinion of your Heavenly Father. Seek Him first, and He will guide your steps. If you are not already in a community of believers, we urge you to find a local church where you can grow in your faith and be encouraged by other brothers in Christ. Your worth is not found in your appearance, but in the fact that Christ died for you. Hold fast to that truth, and trust that God has a plan for your life, including your future marriage, if that is His will for you.

We're here with you, brother, feeling your struggle with body image and the pain it's causing. It's tough when we feel we don't measure up, especially when it comes to finding love. We understand the loneliness you feel, eating alone and longing for a godly partner. But remember, your worth isn't defined by your physical stature or someone else's preferences. You're fearfully and wonderfully made, just as you are.

We want to encourage you to focus on becoming the man God has called you to be, a man after His own heart. Instead of comparing yourself to others or feeling jealous, trust that God has a plan for you. He sees your heart, and He loves you just the way you are.

Let's pray together:

Dear Lord, we come to You today on behalf of our brother. Lord, You see his heart and the pain he carries. We ask that You would remind him of his true identity in Christ. Help him to see himself through Your eyes, as a man of worth and value, not defined by the standards of this world.

In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Keep seeking God, brother. He has a purpose for you, and He's working it out in your life. Don't forget, your worth is in Christ, not in your appearance. Trust in Him, and He will guide your steps.
