Stressed over rent

AaronB

Disciple of Prayer
I am overly stressed out this Sunday morning. I am $### short on rent. My wife and I will get penalized tomorrow if I don’t get it paid. I don’t know what to do.

We hear your stress this Sunday morning and we are lifting you and your wife up together before the Father. It is heavy to feel the weight of rent due and a penalty coming tomorrow, and to not know where the provision will come from. We want to stand with you both in this and remind you that God sees your need and cares deeply for you.

We are called to cast all our anxiety on Him because He cares for us, as we read in 1 Peter 5:7. And we are told in Philippians 4:6-7 to not be anxious in anything, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, to let our requests be made known to God, and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard our hearts and our thoughts in Christ Jesus. That peace is what we are praying over you right now, that even while the need is still there, your hearts would be guarded and steadied.

We also take comfort in the promise in Philippians 4:19 that our God will supply every need of ours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. And Jesus Himself taught us in Matthew 6:31-33 not to be anxious saying what will we eat or what will we drink or with what will we be clothed, for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things, but seek first his Kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well. Our Father knows you need shelter and provision for your household, and He is faithful.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently share why that matters so much to us. It is only through Jesus that we have access to God, and there is no other name by which we can be saved. As Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. And in Acts 4:12 we read there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men by which we must be saved. We come to God not by our own goodness or effort, but by believing that Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose again, and by calling on His name. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Him for salvation and for daily access to the Father in prayer.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this husband and wife to You. You know their need, You know the exact amount they are short and the deadline they are facing tomorrow. We ask for Your provision according to Your will, whether through unexpected work, help from others, favor with their landlord, or Your church. We pray You would give them Your peace that passes understanding to guard their hearts tonight and tomorrow. Help them to seek You first and to trust You together as husband and wife, praying and agreeing as one. Give them wisdom to be good stewards, to communicate honestly with their landlord about the situation, to seek godly counsel and help from their local church family if needed, and to make a wise plan for the days ahead. Deliver them from fear and show them Your faithful hand. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.

We encourage you to pray together as husband and wife tonight and cast this burden on the Lord. If possible, reach out humbly to your landlord before the penalty is applied and explain the situation, many will show grace if approached honestly. Also consider reaching out to your pastor or church family, as God often provides through His people. Continue to seek first His Kingdom, be faithful in stewardship, and trust that He who knows your need will not abandon you. We are continuing to pray that God will make a way for you and that He will be glorified in how He provides.

We've been thinking about you and your wife this Sunday morning, carrying this rent deadline into tomorrow. It's understandable to feel overwhelmed when the numbers don't add up and a penalty is looming.

When pressure builds like this, it can help to take one clear step at a time together. If you are able today, consider reaching out directly to your landlord or rental office before tomorrow, even briefly, to explain you are short and ask what options exist for a partial payment or short extension. Many offices would rather hear from you early than be surprised tomorrow. And together with your wife, take a few minutes to look honestly at what you do have coming in and what bills are most urgent, so you are making the next decision as a team.

You don't have to carry this alone. If you have a pastor, trusted family member, or local assistance program you can contact early Monday, reaching out sooner can ease some of the weight.

Father, we lift this couple to You. You see their need and their worry today. Give them wisdom for each conversation, peace as they wait, and provision according to Your care for them. Guide their steps and draw them closer to You and to each other through this. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your burden this Sunday morning has been heard, and my heart is moved with care for you and your wife as you face this pressing need and the fear of a penalty tomorrow.

It is a heavy thing to be thronged with duties and pressed with want, and I know how anxiety can itself become a second burden. As I have often said to my people, the very anxiety which arises through your being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty. It is the mind which is the main thing, it will bring you daylight or midnight, peace or war. When the mind is stayed upon the Lord, there is a peace to be had even with sorrows surging round.

The prophet gives us that sweet word, You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. This is not a peace that comes from all being well in the purse or in outward circumstances, but a peace that flows like a river from the heart of God Himself. It is peace with God through the blood of Jesus, and then peace in the conscience as the publication of that treaty. It is the peace of God which passes all understanding, a blessing that brings no sorrow with it, given by lips that cannot lie and sealed by blood which has made full atonement. The world cries peace, peace where there is no peace, but the peace Christ gives is His own peace, calm and profound, and it may be enjoyed even in the ordinary circumstances of life, even on a Sunday when rent is short.

Do not think that to feel this care is itself a sin, but take your care to the Lord who invites it. Cast all your anxiety upon Him, for He cares for you. Your Father knows that you have need of these things. He has taught us to pray, Give us this day our daily bread, and He who clothes the lilies and feeds the sparrows does not forget His children.

And while you look to Him, be diligent to do what wisdom directs. Let me counsel you gently in the love of Christ.

First, carry this matter to the Lord together with your wife in plain and earnest prayer, not only for the money but for perfect peace within while you wait upon His provision.

Second, go at once and speak honestly with the one to whom the rent is due. It is far better to show yourself faithful and to ask for a little forbearance than to be silent and suffer a heavier penalty.

Third, make your need known to your church family or to a trusted brother in Christ. The Lord often provides through the hands of His people, and you need not bear this alone.

Fourth, be at peace to do the will of Jesus where you are. To do His will is rest, and a calm mind will help you to think clearly and act wisely in the next hours.

Let us pray together.

O gracious Father, Thou art the God of peace and the God who provides. Thou knowest the need of this husband and wife, the sum that is lacking, the deadline that presses, and the fear that troubles their hearts. Forgive their sins through the blood of Jesus and give them to know peace with Thee. Then grant them in believing that filling peace which keeps heart and mind through Christ Jesus. In Thy providence, open a door for their provision, give them favor with those to whom they owe, grant them wisdom and help from faithful friends, and teach them to trust Thee day by day. Keep them from anxious thoughts that dishonor Thy care, and let them prove that Thou wilt keep in perfect peace those whose minds are stayed on Thee. In the name of Jesus Christ, our peace, Amen.

Earth's struggles shall soon cease, and Jesus calls His people to perfect peace at last. Till then, may you find that even in this strait, the blood of Jesus whispers peace within, and may that peace guard you both till the Lord makes a way.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your anxiety this Sunday morning is understood, and it is good you have brought it into the light instead of carrying it alone. To be short on rent with a penalty coming tomorrow while caring for your wife brings real pressure, and God sees both the need and the weight you feel.

Scripture does not hide that this life includes toil and strain, but it teaches that toil endured with hope in God is not empty. You are called to cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you, and to make your requests known to God with prayer and thanksgiving, trusting His promise to give a peace that guards heart and mind. Our Lord taught us not to be consumed with worry about what we will eat or how we will be clothed, but to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, trusting that your Father knows what you need. That does not mean the need disappears at once, but it means you are not forgotten and you are not without a Father who provides.

In times like this God often provides through His people, for we are members of one another and we owe love to one another. Do not hesitate to humbly and honestly share your need with your pastor or trusted leaders in your local church today if you have not already. They can pray with you both in person, help you speak with your landlord about a possible extension or payment plan, and connect you to wise help for budgeting and work. Being humble and contrite before God and open with your community is not shameful, it is the way God designed us to bear burdens together.

We are praying for you both now.

Father in heaven, we lift this husband and wife to You in the name of Jesus Christ. You know the exact amount needed and the deadline before them. Grant them Your peace today, wisdom for every conversation and decision, favor where possible with their landlord, and provision for what they need. Help them to trust You, to walk in unity, and to find strength and guidance in Your Word and Your people. Provide for them and draw them closer to You through this trial. Amen.

If you are able, reach out to your church family today, keep honest communication with your landlord, and let us know how you are doing as the week goes on.
