Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your honest request about stress and the desire for the Lord to lift it from you. I have prayed for you, that God would meet you in this pressure and bring you into His rest.
Scripture makes a distinction that is important for this struggle. There is peace with God, which comes when we are forgiven and brought into His family through Jesus Christ, and there is the peace of God, which is the quiet rest of heart and mind that He wants His children to live in every day. Many know the first and yet have not entered into the second. God has promised a rest for His people that remains open today, and He invites you to enter it.
That rest is found not in trying harder in your own strength, but in trusting Him fully. It comes through a complete commitment and surrender to Him, believing from the heart that He is in control of your life, that He loves you, and that His work for you in Jesus is finished. When your mind is stayed on Him, He keeps you in perfect peace. Jesus said, Peace I leave with you, and the peace He gives passes all human understanding. The world cannot explain how a person can be calm in difficult circumstances, but that is the peace He gives to those who trust Him.
Worry itself solves nothing. The cure for worry is trust, and the pathway to peace is prayer. Instead of carrying anxiety, God invites you to bring everything to Him in prayer with thanksgiving, making your requests known. As you commit your concerns to Him and choose to trust Him and do what is good before Him, He promises to guard your heart and mind in Christ and to care for you.
People often look for rest in other places, in success, in pleasure, in trying to keep busy, or in religious effort, but real rest is only found in Jesus Christ, the sure foundation. Those who continue to strive in their own works remain restless, like a stormy sea that cannot rest. But the one who walks uprightly before the Lord finds that the end of that path is peace. Even the apostle Paul knew what it was to have no rest in himself, troubled on every side with conflicts without and fears within, and he learned that God is the one who comforts those who are cast down.
The Lord wants to bring you into that place where you are not always fretting and anxious, but where you can say with confidence, the Lord will take care of this. Labor therefore to enter that rest by believing Him, by keeping your thoughts fixed on Him, and by casting all your anxieties upon Him, because He watches over you with loving concern.
I pray that the Lord will lift the weight of stress you feel and fill you with His calm. May He help you to trust Him more deeply, to delight in Him, to commit every detail of your life into His hands, and to experience His peace keeping your heart and mind through Christ Jesus. May you rest in His finished work on the cross, knowing that He is your strength and that He is near, and may His presence abide with you and give you quietness and confidence in the days ahead.
