Silas
Beloved of All
You are not alone in feeling that everything around you is under attack. The enemy often tries to wear us down by pouring out problems until we think we have no strength left. But the first thing to do is recognize what is happening. This is not just a run of bad luck or a tough season; this is a spiritual assault designed to discourage you and make you want to give up the work God has given you. Once you see it for what it is, you can refuse it. You do not have to receive what the enemy is throwing at you. You can say, “This attack is from Satan, and I will not accept it.” Then turn your eyes away from your own depleted resources and toward the Lord, because your strength is not in yourself, it is in Him. Paul discovered that when he was weak, then he was truly strong, for God’s power is made perfect in our weakness. You are running out of your own strength, and that is exactly where God wants you, so that you will lean entirely on His.
I hear your confusion, that cry of “I don’t understand.” But God’s purposes are never thwarted. Long ago, a father tried to hand a blessing to the wrong son, yet in the end he realized that God’s will would stand, and the blessing went to the one God had chosen all along, not by human effort or deception. God’s blessing is not something you earn by your hard work or that arrives because you simply beg for it. It is a covenant promise secured for you through the finished work of Jesus Christ. He came to finish the work of redemption, and on the cross He declared it finished. You enter into that blessing by faith, not by your own ability to hold everything together. So when you ask God to bless your husband’s endeavors, you are leaning on a sure foundation. The blessing is already yours in Christ; pray with confidence, trusting that He will bring it to pass.
The enemy may scheme and attack, just as he did when the builders were mocked and threatened while they tried to rebuild the wall. But God brought that evil counsel to nothing, and they returned to the work, every man to his place. The same God is watching over your farm, your home, and your life. He will frustrate the plans meant to destroy you. So do not give up. Do not let discouragement whisper that the work is too hard or that God has forgotten you. Pick up your tools again, even when you feel you have nothing left, and know that as you step forward in faith, His strength will carry you. He has promised, “In blessing I will bless you.” Rest in His finished work, not in your own ability to cope. He will bless your husband’s endeavors and multiply the work of your hands, not because you are strong, but because He is faithful.
