We join with you in the name of Jesus Christ and we thank you for coming before the Father in His mighty name, for there is no other name by which we have access to God and by which we are saved. We hear the pain and exhaustion in your cry after years of enduring this abusive and disrespectful behavior in your own home, and we stand with you seeking God's strength and courage and justice together.

The Lord sees what is done in secret and He is your refuge and strength. We are reminded of His promise to you in Joshua 1:9, Have not I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. Do not be dismayed, for Yahweh your God is with you wherever you go. And again in Deuteronomy 31:6, Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid nor be scared of them, for Yahweh your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you. When you feel overwhelmed where you sleep, remember Psalm 46:1, God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. And Isaiah 41:10, Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

We also must speak lovingly about a couple things in your prayer. It is right to pray for this man to be convicted and to leave, and to plead the blood of Jesus over the wickedness and to ask God to bind and break abusive behavior, for drunkenness and abuse are sin before God. Ephesians 5:18 says, Do not be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. And Proverbs 20:1 says, Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise. God calls such behavior wickedness and He desires repentance. However we gently correct the desire to pray that he would suffer what he has done to you. Vengeance does not belong to us. Romans 12:19 says, Do not seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. And Jesus commands us in Matthew 5:44, Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you. We can pray for heavy conviction to come upon him, for God to open his eyes to his sin, to bring him to repentance, and for God to justly remove him far from you, but we leave the repayment to the Lord and we do not harbor hatred.

We encourage you to walk in both courage and wisdom. God calls us not to enable ongoing sin and abuse. While we pray, we also encourage you to seek godly and practical help to be safe and to have this man removed lawfully from your home. Seek counsel from a trusted pastor or elders in a Bible believing church, and seek lawful help from appropriate authorities or legal aid regarding removing someone who is living rent free and acting abusively. Document what has happened, and do not remain isolated. Psalm 34:18 says, Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. He is near to you now and He will give you wisdom as you ask. James 1:5 says, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

We pray together now for you and for this man.

Father in heaven, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ we lift up our sister to You. Lord, You see where she sleeps and You see the water thrown and the drunkenness and the years of abuse and disrespect in her own home. We ask You to be her refuge, her strength, her defender and her peace. Fill her with Your courage and strength, for You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control as it says in 2 Timothy 1:7. Uphold her with Your righteous right hand and let her feel Your presence with her wherever she goes. Give her wisdom and open doors for godly counsel and lawful help to have this man removed from her home permanently and safely, according to Your will. We pray You would dismantle and break the wickedness and abusive behavior, bind the works of darkness, and plead the blood of Jesus over her and her home for protection. Father, we pray for this man, that deep conviction would fall upon him, that You would grant him repentance and turn him from drunkenness and abuse to sobriety and righteousness. If he will not repent, we ask that You in Your justice would remove him far away to never return, and that You would keep our sister safe from harm. Let Your will be done, let Your justice and mercy prevail, and let her one day testify that You heard and answered. We trust Your timing and Your perfect justice. In Jesus mighty name we pray, Amen.

Your prayer for strength and courage in the midst of this grievous and wearying trial has been heard, and we join our faith with yours before the throne of grace.

The Lord knows what it is to be troubled in your own home, to have no place of quiet rest, and to be wearied by the unkind and abusive deeds of another. He sees where you lie down to sleep and He marks the wrong that is done to you. We cannot show our courage unless we have difficulties and troubles, and now in your trial the Lord would have you look to Him who alone can deliver and sustain.

Remember what the Scripture says, They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. All strength apart from God is derived strength and must come to an end, but when you are linked to God and wait upon Him for everything, casting your nothingness upon His omnipotence, then shall you find your strength renewed. From that measureless fountain beneath you shall draw strength which all eternity will not exhaust. You are weakness itself in this long affliction, but if you are united to the Divine strength, you shall be infinitely strong to endure and to do what is right before Him.

We take comfort also in this word, Then He is gracious unto him, and says, Deliver him from going down to the Pit, I have found a ransom. Nobody would have thought of that way of deliverance through a ransom if God had not thought of it, but He has invented and He has found it in His own Son. The prisoner ready to be executed finds undeserved deliverance because the King's own Son has borne the penalty. So we look to Christ Jesus alone for salvation and for deliverance from the power of darkness. Deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin, and we must look to our heavenly Father altogether and alone for it.

Therefore we pray for you, and we counsel you in the Lord to seek not only prayer but also wise and godly help. It is right to set a bound to wickedness and to be delivered from evil company. Seek the counsel and protection of faithful pastors and mature believers, and where there is danger or abuse, seek the help of lawful authorities and those who can provide safe shelter and a just and orderly removal of one who misuses your home. To endure abuse alone without seeking help is not required of you. Like Daniel, who opposed strength to strength by quiet, principled obedience to his God, so you must take a principled stand for what is holy and peaceable in your household.

Let us pray together.

O gracious Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, our only ransom and hope, we lift up this afflicted one to You. You have seen the years of prayer, the nights of broken sleep, the drunkenness and the contempt shown in this home. Lord, You are gracious, and You have commanded deliverance for Your people. We ask You to keep back Your child from the Pit and to preserve life from perishing. Renew strength to this weary soul as they wait upon You. Grant courage that is not the offspring of passion but of deep seated principle rooted in faith in You.

Father, restrain all wickedness and abusive behavior. Bind and dismantle the power of darkness that works in this man, and bring him to conviction and repentance through the blood of Jesus Christ shed for sinners. We plead not as a charm but as confidence in the ransom You have found, that Christ has borne the penalty and can break the power of sin. If it be Your will, remove this man far from this home and let him return no more, that peace may be restored within these borders. If he will not repent, restrain him and make a way of escape for Your child. Let this home be a place of peace, not of fear.

Teach Your child to say with the Psalmist, The Lord has chastened me sorely, but He has not given me over unto death. I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord. Grant wisdom for every heavy conversation that must be had, that it may be spoken with truth and grace and firmness, and grant protection by day and by night.

We ask all this trusting only in the merits of Jesus Christ our Lord, who is our deliverance and our song. Amen.
