Stop drinking

Disciple of Prayer
Please lord God help me stop drinking alcohol and embrassing myself and children and ruining my health

We come before the Lord with you in this struggle, lifting you up in prayer and standing firmly on the truth of His Word. The battle against drunkenness is one the Lord is well acquainted with, and He offers both conviction and deliverance. The Scriptures are clear: *"Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s Kingdom? Don’t be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortionists, will inherit God’s Kingdom"* (1 Corinthians 6:9-10, WEB). Yet this same passage reminds us that *"such were some of you, but you were washed. But you were sanctified. But you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and in the Spirit of our God"* (1 Corinthians 6:11, WEB). There is hope—real, transforming hope—in Christ alone.

Your confession is the first step toward freedom, and we commend you for acknowledging the harm this sin has brought—not only to your body, which is the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), but also to your children, who are watching and suffering from the consequences of these actions. The Lord calls us to sobriety, to self-control, and to a life that honors Him in all things. *"Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour"* (1 Peter 5:8, WEB). Alcohol has become a snare in your life, but Jesus is mighty to break every chain.

We must also address something critical: your prayer was directed to "Lord God," but there is no mention of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have access to the Father. The Bible declares, *"There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus"* (1 Timothy 2:5, WEB). It is only through faith in Jesus—His death, burial, and resurrection—that we are saved and can approach God’s throne with confidence. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so now. *"If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved"* (Romans 10:9, WEB). Without Him, there is no true victory over sin, no matter how hard we try in our own strength.

Now, let us pray for you:

Heavenly Father, we lift up this precious soul before You, crying out for deliverance from the bondage of alcohol. Lord Jesus, You are the Breaker of chains, the Healer of brokenness, and the Restorer of all things. We ask that You would forgive our brother/sister for the sin of drunkenness and cleanse them by Your precious blood. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, who produces the fruit of self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). Break the power of addiction in their life and replace the craving for alcohol with a hunger and thirst for righteousness—for more of You.

Lord, we pray for healing in their body, which has been harmed by this sin. Restore their health, renew their strength, and let them experience the truth that *"by His stripes we are healed"* (Isaiah 53:5, WEB). Father, we also lift up their children, who have witnessed the pain of this struggle. Comfort them, Lord, and let them see a transformed parent—one who walks in sobriety, love, and faithfulness. May this home become a place of peace, joy, and godly example.

We rebuke the enemy who has sought to destroy this life through addiction. Satan, you have no authority here. The blood of Jesus covers this person, and we command every stronghold of alcoholism to be broken in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Lord, surround them with godly support—brothers and sisters in Christ who will hold them accountable, encourage them, and walk with them in this journey. Lead them to resources, counsel, and communities that will strengthen their resolve to live soberly for Your glory.

Finally, Lord, if this person has not yet fully surrendered to You, we pray that today would be the day of salvation. Open their eyes to see their need for Jesus—not just as a Helper, but as their Savior. Let them turn from sin and place their trust in Him alone. Fill them with Your Spirit, that they may walk in newness of life.

We thank You, Father, for hearing our prayer. We trust in Your power to save, deliver, and restore. May this life be a testimony of Your grace and mercy, that others may see and glorify Your name. In the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer, we pray. Amen.

To you, our friend: This battle is not yours to fight alone. The Lord is with you, and He has given you His Word as a weapon. Memorize and meditate on Scriptures that speak of sobriety, self-control, and the power of the Holy Spirit. Here are a few to start:
- *"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure"* (1 Corinthians 10:13, WEB).
- *"I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me"* (Philippians 4:13, WEB).
- *"Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit"* (Ephesians 5:18, WEB).

Practical steps are also vital. We encourage you to:
1. **Remove the temptation**: Get rid of all alcohol in your home and avoid places where you are likely to drink.
2. **Seek accountability**: Confide in a mature believer or pastor who can pray with you, encourage you, and hold you accountable.
3. **Replace the habit**: Fill the time you once spent drinking with prayer, Bible study, or healthy activities. Ask the Lord to redirect your desires toward Him.
4. **Attend a support group**: Consider joining a Christ-centered recovery group where you can find support and biblical teaching on overcoming addiction.

If you have not yet given your life to Christ, we implore you to do so today. Without Him, true freedom is impossible. But in Him, *"if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new"* (2 Corinthians 5:17, WEB). Repent of your sins, believe in Jesus, and surrender your life to Him. He alone can break the chains that bind you.

You are not defined by your struggles. You are defined by Christ’s victory over sin and death. Walk in that truth, and let His strength be made perfect in your weakness. We are praying for you and believe that the Lord will bring you into a place of lasting freedom. Stay close to Him, and do not give up. The battle is worth it, and the reward is eternal.

We're here with you, friend, standing firm in the love and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. We know the struggle is real, but so is the power of God to help you overcome. Let's keep fighting together.

First, we want to remind you that God is not surprised by your struggle. He sees you, He knows your heart, and He wants to help. In fact, the Bible tells us, "God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13, WEB). Isn't that comforting? God isn't waiting for you to fail; He's providing a way out.

We also want to encourage you to keep talking to God. Pour out your heart to Him. He can handle it all. In fact, the Psalmist tells us, "Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you" (Psalm 55:22, WEB). Let's pray together:

"Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You today, laying down our ###'s burden. Lord, we ask for Your strength to help them overcome this addiction. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may have the power to resist temptation. Help them to see the truth of Your Word and to walk in it. Comfort their children, Lord, and help them to see the transformation in their parent's life. Give them the courage to seek help, to be accountable, and to make practical changes. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

Remember, you're not alone. We're here for you, and so is God. Keep fighting, keep praying, and keep trusting. You can do this, with God's help.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.

We want to thank you for allowing us the honor of lifting you up in prayer over these past few days as you seek freedom from alcohol and the restoration of your health, your dignity, and your family’s well-being. Our hearts have been burdened alongside yours, knowing the weight of this struggle—but also the power of our Savior to break every chain. We’ve been praying earnestly that God would fill the emptiness this battle has left with His presence, that He would renew your strength day by day, and that He would surround you with His peace as you take each step forward in sobriety.

If the Lord has begun to work in this area of your life—whether through a renewed sense of resolve, a moment of victory, or even the quiet assurance of His nearness—we’d love for you to share a praise report with us. Your testimony could be the very encouragement someone else needs to keep fighting. And if this fight still feels overwhelming, if the temptation remains strong, or if the shame of past mistakes is weighing heavily on you, please don’t hesitate to post this request again. We are here to stand with you in the gap, to remind you that you are not defined by your struggles, and to keep praying until breakthrough comes.

You are not alone in this, brother or sister. The body of Christ is walking beside you, and our God is mighty to save. Keep seeking Him, even in the moments when it feels impossible. He is faithful, and He will complete the good work He has started in you. We’re believing for total freedom, for healing in your body, and for the restoration of trust and joy in your home.

May the Lord fill you with His strength today and remind you that His grace is sufficient for every weakness. We’re still praying for you. In Jesus’ name.
