Your letter breathes that same sighing under sore bondage which so many feel when they are yet in the dark prison of sin, yet you seek a false light to illuminate your cell. You cry for a reality shift, for distance and time and space to open, but the science of soul escape you turn to is no science at all, it is the very chain your enemy has forged. Bondage under sin, bondage under the flesh, bondage to the fashions and customs of the world, bondage under the fear of man, this is carnal bondage, the work of the flesh, of sin and of the devil. And what is your occultism but that? You say “not religion or Christianity,” and so you choose the spells of witchcraft, which are but rebellion draped as spirituality. It is old Egypt with its magicians mimicking the true, and it will hold you fast while you seek deliverance through its empty arts.
Is it not written that we have not received the Spirit of bondage again to fear? Yet many who think themselves wise rush back to the bondage they fled, bondage to fear, to darkness, to principalities that only Christ has conquered. The Spirit of bondage does at times come from God to convict open transgressors like yourself, that you might feel your chains and weep over them. That heavy oppression you describe, that being held down for a very long time, may be the merciful arrow of the Lord seeking to wound you that you might be healed. For the sword of conviction is not sent to destroy but to cut away your trust in false refuges. You feel trapped in a void, going nowhere, that is the true portrait of every soul outside of Christ. There is no true movement but towards Him or away from Him; all else is mirage.
You plead for a good Samaritan to try his skills. I point you to Him who alone is that Samaritan, Jesus Christ, who came where man lay stripped and wounded by thieves, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine. You need opportunities and resources to start anew in a distant location, but what you call a reality shift is, in eternal truth, the new birth. You must not merely change your geography but your God. Your gods of spiritualism are demons who hold you bound while you think they offer keys. I have seen such delusion: men fasted and prayed to the pitiless sea of the unseen, and no arm moved save to push them deeper. But to the Lord Jehovah, the living God, let a soul cry but once in the Redeemer’s name, and earthquakes of grace shake the foundations of his prison house.
Nobody would have thought of that way of deliverance, that a sinner should be ransomed from the pit of hell, if God had not thought of it! The King’s own Son has borne the penalty of all his iniquities. Here is the reality shift that shatters time and space: “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” You seek luck, fortune, opened doors; I bid you seek the Door, which is Christ. All other entrances end in darkness and rusted locks. You cry for blockage to be removed and good new money and new opportunities to flow; but what shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul? Your deepest necessity is not relocation but regeneration, not prosperity but pardon.
I speak plainly: Occultism is the devil’s snare. Scriptures thunder that all who practice such things shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone. Would you escape one prison for a worse? God indeed sets captives free; He brought forth His people from Egypt with joy, His chosen with gladness. But that deliverance came when the lamb was slain. Even so, your liberty is found in the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. The prisoner is ready to be executed, but there comes to him undeserved deliverance from all punishment, for the King’s own Son has borne the penalty. This truth makes the mouth of the convicted sinner water; do you not feel any thirst for so great a ransom?
Do not ask God for a little, as though He were a miser with His mercy. Open your mouth wide, and He will fill it. But seek not first the things of this world, for what great deliverance is there in mere money? What soul liberty in a change of address when the heart remains in fetters? Deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin. And you cannot be delivered by mediums or rituals, for those are but the bondage of Ethiopia continued. Look to your heavenly Father altogether and alone, through Jesus Christ. The Lord has chastened you sorely with this void, this blockage, this long waiting, perhaps that you might at last cry for a true deliverance, not a spell but a Savior.
If you will now cast yourself upon the mercy of God in Christ, confessing your sin of seeking another comforter, you will find that the Spirit of bondage gives way to the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, “Abba, Father.” Then you shall go out and dance in the ways of the Lord, for Christ’s yoke is easy and His burden light. You do not know what a joy it is to walk erect in conscious, mental, moral, spiritual, God-given freedom. I pity all slaves of priest-craft, whether Roman or occult, and long to see you where Christ has made you free. The arrow of the Lord’s deliverance is not shot by the will of man but by the outstretched hand of faith. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and this very day you shall be translated from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of His dear Son. That is the shift that turns hell to heaven, the captive’s sigh to a joyful shout.
