We hear the deep cry of your heart, and we come alongside you in prayer, lifting you up before the throne of grace where mercy and help are found in time of need. The feeling of disconnection from God is a heavy burden, but we know that even in your brokenness, He is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). You are not alone, and your longing for Him is evidence of His work in your life, drawing you back to Himself.
First, let us address the foundation of our faith. There is no access to God except through Jesus Christ, who said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). It is only by His name that we are saved, and it is through repentance and faith in Him that we are reconciled to God. If you have never surrendered your life to Jesus, or if you have wandered from Him, we urge you to turn to Him now. Confess your sins, ask for His forgiveness, and invite Him to be the Lord of your life. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).
The feeling of being lost and broken is not the end of your story. The Lord is close to you, and He desires to restore your soul. Remember the words of Jesus: "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls" (Matthew 11:28-29). He is not a distant God but One who invites you to cast all your anxieties on Him because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).
We also want to encourage you to immerse yourself in God’s Word. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17). Even when you don’t feel His presence, His Word is true and unchanging. Meditate on Scriptures that speak of His faithfulness, such as Lamentations 3:22-23: "It is because of Yahweh’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." Let these truths sink deep into your heart.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we lift up our dear brother/sister to You, who is feeling so lost and disconnected from You. Lord, You are the God who sees, the God who hears, and the God who heals. We ask that You would draw near to them in this moment of despair. Break through the darkness with Your light, and let them feel the warmth of Your presence. Father, we pray that You would revive their faith and restore their hope. Remind them of Your unfailing love and the promises You have given in Your Word.
Lord, if there is any sin or unrepentance in their life, we ask that You would convict their heart and lead them to repentance. Cleanse them by the blood of Jesus and renew a right spirit within them. Help them to surrender fully to You, trusting that You are working all things together for their good (Romans 8:28).
We pray against the lies of the enemy that may be telling them they are too far gone or that You have abandoned them. We rebuke those lies in the name of Jesus and declare that You are a God who pursues Your children and never lets them go. Fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and let them know that You are with them always, even to the end of the age (Matthew 28:20).
Father, we ask that You would surround them with godly community, believers who can walk alongside them, encourage them, and remind them of Your truth. Give them the strength to seek You daily, to spend time in Your Word, and to pray even when it feels difficult. Restore their joy in You, and let them experience the fullness of life that is found only in Christ.
We thank You, Lord, that You are faithful even when we are faithless (2 Timothy 2:13). We trust that You are at work in their life, and we pray that they would soon feel the reality of Your presence in a powerful way. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

The soul that feels disconnected from God has already begun to perceive the truth of its own condition apart from Him. Without faith it is impossible to please God, and the man who has no faith can no more commune with the living God and give Him pleasure, than can a stick or a stone, a horse or an ox, hold converse with the human mind. Yet this very sense of lostness and brokenness is often the Spirit’s preparatory work, bringing you to an end of all hope in yourself.
Cry, then, unto God Most High, who now, in the time of your strait and difficulty, will show Himself again to you a God all-sufficient in times of need. It is not what you can do, but what God can do, what Christ has done, that must be the ground of your hope. Give yourself up unto God, who performs all things for you, and you shall be blessed indeed.
There is no hope for you in yourself, but there is hope for you in Him whom God has provided to be the Savior of such as you. Hopelessness in self is what we want to bring you to, but hopelessness in itself, and especially in connection with God, would be a sin from which we would urge you to escape. Look to the God of Hope. There is the brightness of a ray of hope this very moment, only may God turn it from a possible into an actual hope and give you a good hope of eternal life through believing in Jesus Christ.
Take this as a message from God to your own soul. This Bible speaks. You read in it that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. Do not say, “I hope it is true”; it is true. Believe it, and walk out full of joy, saying in your spirit, “My punishment was borne by Christ; being justified by faith, I have peace with God through Jesus Christ my Lord.”
If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you can do wonders. The least faith in Jesus is the gift of God, and though it is little faith, it is true faith. If you believe that Jesus is the Christ, you are born of God. Turn your eye away from all that repels, from the majesty of holiness that drives awed spirits away from God, and look to Jesus, crucified for sinful men. Behold His flowing wounds and thorn-crowned head. Faith in Christ makes a total change in our position towards God, we who were enemies are reconciled.
Above all, take the shield of faith. When the enemy thrusts hard and says, “God has cast you off,” faith answers, handling the promise, “He is able to save to the uttermost them that come unto God by Him.” Thus faith quenches the fiery darts and extracts honey from the nettle. My prayer for you is that you may have the patience, comfort, and hope that come from the Scriptures, and that you may know this message is from God to you, bringing gladness to your spirit.

You describe a soul disconnected, lost, and broken. This very confession is not a proof that God has abandoned you, but the first stirring of His grace. Do not despise this state, for the sacrifice of God is a broken spirit, and a heart that is brought low God will not despise. You say you desperately need faith and hope. This is good, for you have seen your own destitution. The shipwrecked man is naked and destitute of all things, and so is he that feels himself falling away; he knows not where to stand, but swims this way and that. Yet the plank of salvation is near. Cry out for it.
The remedy for your disconnection is not found in mending your own feelings, but in laying hold of God through faith and hope against hope itself. Consider the patriarch Abraham, who believed in hope against hope. Things which are contrary to one another, faith blends them together. His circumstances declared his wife barren, yet he trusted God’s promise. You see your own soul as barren of all goodness and light, a womb incapable of producing anything but despair. Believe, then, precisely in that place of impossibility. If we must find a remedy through faith and hope, do not seek to be at once released from the danger of this desolation, but let the danger itself teach you to hold more firmly to God.
You feel you have no resource, no steadiness, that the head is disordered and the body of your life avails nothing. This is the truth. When any one falls away from confidence in God, he is lost in the deep. Yet it is there, in the deep, that God bids you to walk. For patience works probation, and probation works hope. The just man uttered his trust when he was in great dangers, from which there was no other possibility of recovery than by the aid of God. Your present danger is the very school of hope. Do not seek first a feeling of peace, but seek the God of peace Himself. He exacts the full payment not from all at once here, but uses the present pain to rouse you to expect the future promise. Your very cry, "I need God," is the voice of the Bridegroom’s friend, the beginning of a faith that comes by hearing the word of God. Let that voice, however faint, give you cause to rejoice, for faith cometh by hearing. Cling only to this: that grace and peace come not from men, nor from a placid estimation of your own soul, but from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Seek grace from your Saviour, not from yourself. For God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

The ache you feel right now, the sense of being lost and broken, does not mean hope is absent. It means you are standing at the very place where real hope is given. Hope and God belong together so completely that you cannot have one without the other. When your soul is cast down, the answer is not to look inside yourself for a reserve of strength you have misplaced. The psalmist spoke to his own soul and said, "Hope thou in God." Your hope is not a feeling you must manufacture; it is a person you must trust.
This hope has been made alive for you through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. It is more than a wish. It is a living hope because the tomb is empty. If Jesus remained dead, there would be no hope at all. But God raised Him, and in doing so, He confirmed that every promise He has made is sure. Your disconnection and brokenness do not nullify that. The God of all hope is able to fill you with joy and peace as you believe, not as you feel.
I know that when everything inside you seems hollow and distant, the idea of faith can feel like a test you are failing. But remember Abraham. God made him a promise that through his son Isaac the nations would be blessed. Then God asked him to offer that son. Abraham’s faith was not a calm, easy certainty. It was a deliberate trust in God’s Word, to the point that he believed God could raise Isaac from the dead to keep His promise. That is the kind of faith God works in us. It does not begin with a surge of emotion. It anchors itself in what God has said and who He has shown Himself to be. Your prayer for faith is already a turning of your will toward that anchor. Do not despise the weakness you feel. It is the very place where the power of God comes to rest.
The Scriptures were given so that through patience and comfort we might have hope. They show us a God who never fails. Open the Word, even when it feels dry, and ask the Holy Spirit to make it alive in your heart. He does not give new revelations outside the Bible; He gives new experiences within the truths you already have. Let patience have its work. The tide of the world and the pull of your own feelings will try to drag you from these things. Let the hope of the gospel be the anchor for your soul, sure and steadfast. Anchor yourself again today, not in your ability to hold on, but in His promise to keep you.
Rest in this: you are kept by the power of God through faith. You have a hope of eternal life, a building of God not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
