Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your heart and your love for your son so honestly. Your concern for him, your hope that he can be free from what has entangled him, and your desire to see him walk in a stable and whole life are deeply understandable. Hurt from the past can leave a person weary and lead to turning to things like alcohol, drugs and gambling to cope, and those things quickly become a bondage that affects work, money and relationships.
Know that God loves your son even more than you do. Scripture shows us the heart of the Father in giving His only Son. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, and that picture was foreshadowed when Abraham was asked to offer Isaac, the son of promise who was born by a miracle long after natural hope was gone. What God did was greater. He did not withhold His Son but offered Him for us, so that through Jesus we could be reconciled to God and receive forgiveness and new life. God provided Himself a sacrifice for sin in Christ.
That is why the deepest miracle your son needs is not only that his outward problems be removed, but that he receive life that is found only in Jesus. The record God has given is that He has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, and he who does not have the Son does not have life. A decent job and a caring relationship cannot by themselves set a person free. Freedom comes when a person turns from sin, trusts in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, and is adopted into God's family. Because we are sons and daughters through faith, God sends the Spirit of His Son into our hearts. He alone can heal the hurt, break the power of addiction, and give a new heart and new desires.
We will pray for your son toward that true transformation. Pray that God will bring him to see his need for Christ, to repent and believe, and to surrender every area including substances and gambling to the Lord. Those struggles thrive in isolation and secrecy, so pray also that he will walk in the light, seek help in a healthy local church, pursue wise counsel, and welcome honest accountability for his finances and habits. Lasting change will involve practical steps, community, and daily dependence on Christ, not just a desire for a normal life.
Regarding the young woman in his life, it is good to thank God for anyone who cares for him and wants what is good for him. At the same time, Scripture teaches that marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that sexual intimacy and living together belong only within that covenant. A relationship that honors God will be marked by purity, honesty and clear boundaries. Forgiveness is beautiful, but forgiveness does not mean ignoring truth or consequences. If she is to know his heart, she also needs to know his struggles honestly, and both of them need counsel that will help them pursue holiness rather than simply hoping love will cover over unresolved bondage. Pray that God will give both of them wisdom to seek what is right before Him, and if it is His will for them to be together, that they would pursue that in the right way through commitment in marriage, not outside of it.

Father, in the name of Jesus we bring this son before You. You know his hurts, his battles with substances and gambling, his financial pressures, and his desire for a different life. Lord, have mercy on him. Draw him to Your Son Jesus Christ, grant him repentance and faith, and give him eternal life in Christ. Break the chains that bind him, heal the wounds of his past, and fill him with Your Holy Spirit so he can walk in freedom and self control. Provide for him godly help, accountability and community to support that new walk. Give his mother peace and strength as she loves him and trusts You. And guide this relationship with this young woman according to Your will and Your design for marriage, that all decisions would honor You and lead to holiness. We ask this trusting that with You nothing is beyond hope, for You bring life even where it seems impossible. Amen.
