Son still won't go to sleep

Beloved of All
Jesus please I am asking you yet again for my son to please go to sleep. This is ridiculous. He never goes to bed before 6 a.m. every night. I cannot handle this much longer, and it is not good for him either. Please let him go to bed earlier. Thank you Jesus, Amen.

We hear your exhaustion and frustration, dear sister in Christ, and we join you in bringing this heavy burden before the Lord. Parenting is a sacred calling, yet it can also be one of the most challenging roles we face, especially when sleep deprivation clouds our patience and strength. Your plea is not falling on deaf ears; our Heavenly Father cares deeply about both you and your son, and He invites you to cast this care upon Him, for He sustains you (1 Peter 5:7).

First, we must address the spiritual battle that may be at play here. Sleep patterns, especially those that defy natural rhythms, can sometimes be influenced by spiritual opposition. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), and exhaustion is one of his tactics to wear down believers. But we declare that Jesus came so that you and your son may have life, and have it abundantly! We rebuke any spirit of restlessness or rebellion that may be affecting your son’s sleep, and we command it to flee in the mighty name of Jesus. The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, is your son’s inheritance, and we pray that it would guard his heart and mind (Philippians 4:7).

Practically, we encourage you to examine whether there are habits or routines that may be enabling this pattern. Are there screens, caffeine, or stimulating activities keeping him awake? The Bible instructs us to train up a child in the way he should go (Proverbs 22:6), and this includes teaching him the discipline of rest. Establishing a consistent bedtime routine, removing distractions, and even fasting from certain activities before bed can help reset his body’s natural clock. Pray over his room, declaring it a place of peace and rest, and ask the Lord to give you wisdom in setting boundaries with love and firmness.

We also lift you up, dear mother. The weariness you feel is real, and it is not wrong to acknowledge your limits. But remember, the Lord is your strength when you are weak (2 Corinthians 12:9-10). He sees your tears and hears your cries, and He promises to give rest to the weary (Matthew 11:28). Do not carry this burden alone, seek support from your church family, and allow others to come alongside you in prayer and practical help.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up this precious mother and her son. Lord, You are the God who neither slumbers nor sleeps (Psalm 121:4), and we ask that You would bring Your perfect peace into this home. We rebuke every spirit of restlessness and rebellion, and we declare that Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, will guard this child’s heart and mind. Father, give this mother wisdom and strength to establish godly routines and boundaries. Soften her son’s heart to receive the rest his body and soul need. Lord, we also ask for Your grace to sustain this mother, refresh her spirit, renew her strength, and remind her that You are her ever-present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1). We trust You to turn this situation around for Your glory, and we thank You for Your faithfulness. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

Hold fast to the promise that God is working even in this trial. His timing is perfect, and He will not leave you to face this alone. Keep pressing into Him, and trust that He will bring the breakthrough you seek.

We hear the exhaustion in your words, and it’s completely understandable. When a child’s sleep is so out of sync night after night, it wears down everyone in the home, and the worry that it’s not good for him only adds to the weight you’re carrying. Thank you for sharing this honestly.

Because this pattern has become so fixed, it may be more than just a willful phase. A consistent inability to fall asleep before 6 a.m. can sometimes point to a real sleep rhythm issue, like delayed sleep phase syndrome, especially in teenagers. It’s wise to bring this up with his doctor soon, not with alarm, but simply to rule out anything physical and get some experienced guidance. You don’t have to troubleshoot all of this alone.

In the meantime, a small thing that can help is keeping a simple daily log: what time he finally falls asleep, when he wakes, and anything you notice about the evenings. That kind of record often gives a medical professional a clear starting point. And though it doesn’t fix everything overnight, we’ve seen families find that a gentle, screen‑free wind‑down, maybe softly playing some peaceful Christian music in the house in the hour before bed, can help shift the atmosphere from activity toward rest, not just for him but for you too.

We’re praying that Jesus, who calmed the storm with a word, will bring rest to your son’s mind and body, and fresh strength to you tonight. Lord, in Jesus’ name, settle this child’s sleep at a healthy hour, give this parent deep peace instead of frustration, and guide them to whatever help is needed. Amen.

he giveth his beloved sleep.Father, we are thankful You inspired the words," Ps 127:2, 2 Peter 1:19-20, 2 Tim 3:16. We ask for rest for the weary, Matt 11:28-30, in Jesus' Name

You cry out in weariness, and that is no small thing. The trial of a sleepless child wears upon the spirit, and it is right that you bring this burden to the throne of grace, for He bids you come. Does He not say, “Come unto Me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”? That promise is for you, and though He may not at once grant rest to your son’s body, yet He will give rest to your soul as you cast this care upon Him. The Lord gives His beloved sleep, and He can command the restlessness of a little one as easily as He stilled the storm. Continue to ask, for He hears the cry of the needy.

Yet remember that our Lord Jesus prayed for others who knew not what they did. If your son’s waking through the night seems to you a folly, plead for him with the same mercy. Do not let your spirit grow bitter, but rather take up the yoke of Christ and learn of Him, for He is meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest for your soul even while your body is weary. The rest He gives is often rest in motion, peace in the midst of labor. Pray, then, with this plea: that God would be glorified in your child’s ordering, and that His name might be known. He who fed you all your life long will not leave you now. Wait upon Him; He that keeps watch through the weary night will not forget your tears. Let your request be made known with thanksgiving, and in due season you shall see that He gives His beloved sleep.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer is not unheard. But now, in the long hours of the night, the Lord is asking something of you. Do not spend the night only asking for sleep; spend it watching and being sober. The present life is a sleep and its troubles are dreams, but the Lord who keeps Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps. When Paul and Silas were in the inner prison, with their feet in stocks, at midnight they prayed and sang praises to God. You are not in chains; you are in your own house. If they could sing, can you not at least pray quietly and wait?

You call it ridiculous. I hear the weariness behind the word. But do not let weariness become repining. The Day of the Lord comes like a thief to those who sleep, but to the watchful it comes as a messenger. Let this forced watch be turned to your gain. Ask not only for your son's sleep but for your own sobriety of soul. It is possible to sleep while awake by doing nothing good; it is also possible to be awake while the body rests by setting the heart on God.

As for practical care, examine what the child takes in before bed. Too much food or excitement can stir up the flesh and drive away rest. Make provision for health, not for the lusts of the flesh. A quiet hour, a dark room, a regular order, a simple meal, these are helps. But when you have done what wisdom allows, leave the outcome with God. The child's sleeping is in his hands, not yours.

Do not think the Lord is absent because the night is long. He who keeps Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps. He sees you. The answer may not come in the first hour or the second, but the waiting itself can become a vigil. Even a little while of watchful prayer can do more than many hours of complaining. Pray, then, not with wild demands but with steady faith. And if the child still will not sleep, sing softly, bless the house, and keep your own soul awake to God. In that watch, you will find a rest that the body cannot give.
