We hear your cry for mercy and transformation, and we join you in lifting this burden before the throne of grace. The longing for a heart to be softened, cleansed, and renewed is a plea that aligns with God’s own desire for repentance and restoration. Scripture tells us, "Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me" (Psalm 51:10). This is the work only the Holy Spirit can do, breaking chains, dissolving hardness, and drawing souls to the light of Christ.
Yet we must address some concerns in your request with biblical clarity. First, we notice you did not invoke the name of Jesus, who is the only mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5). There is no salvation, no cleansing, no breaking of curses apart from Him. Jesus declared, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). If this prayer is for someone who does not yet know Christ, we must first pray for their salvation, for faith to come by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17). Without Christ, there is no true forgiveness or freedom.
Second, we must rebuke any notion of "spells" or curses having power over a believer. The Bible warns against dabbling in occult practices (Deuteronomy 18:10-12), but it also declares that "the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world" (1 John 4:4). The cry for a softened heart is a cry for the great work of regeneration, a work no man can do for himself. You ask God to soften and cleanse; yet know that the stony heart is not to be softened but taken away. The promise is, "I will take away the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh." The Lord does not attempt the repair of the old nature; He makes all things new. In one solitary second, swifter than the lightning flash, He can put a new heart into a man, and make him a new creature in Christ Jesus. Pray then for nothing less than a new creation.
Cleansing comes alone through the precious blood of the Lamb. The love of God must be shed abroad in the heart by the Holy Ghost, that sweet perfume dispels the foulness of sin. Until the heart is pierced by the dagger of truth, until the sinner is pricked in his heart, no permanent good is effected. A heart merely wounded by sorrow may fester and harden again; but let the sword of the Spirit work, and then the Great Physician will bind up the broken heart. Bring the bleeding heart to the bleeding heart of Jesus, for that alone can stanch its wound.
You speak of a curse and a spell. The curse is the curse of the law; Christ has redeemed us from it, being made a curse for us. As for spells, all the enchantments of sin and the enticements of the world are broken when a sinner flees to the cross. There is no bondage of Satan so strong but the Son of God can snap it asunder. The divided heart lies open to every haunting error and delusion; it is a heart straddling two opinions, and therefore found faulty. Pray that this heart be united to fear the Lord’s name, for a united heart is a happy heart, and it alone perceives the truth clearly.

Cry to the Lord to give him a heart to perceive, eyes to see, and ears to hear. The Lord must open the eyes, or they remain blind though surrounded by gospel light. His heart must be wholly given up, or it is not given at all. Then God shall write His law upon that softened heart, and the love of Christ shall constrain him, making him laugh at impossibilities and cry, "It shall be done!"

Do you pray for another's heart to be cleansed and softened? This is a holy desire, yet first examine your own. Our Lord has taught us to say, "Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors." If you hold any grudge or resentment, release it now, for the defilement of an unforgiving spirit binds your own soul. The cleansing of the heart requires more than words; it needs tears, earnest lamentation, and strict repentance. Cry out with the prophet, "Create in me a clean heart, O God," and do not merely mouth the prayer while your mind wanders. True prayer lays hold of heaven with grief over sin and a will to amend.
For the man you commend to God, remember the one perfect sacrifice of Christ, who offered Himself once for all and sat down at the right hand of the Father. By that offering He has perfected forever those who are sanctified. There is no curse or spell that can withstand His mercy; sin alone is the true bondage, and He bore our sins in His own body to break its power. Pray that this man's heart be softened by the Holy Spirit, that he see his transgressions plainly, confess them with humility, and turn back to God. For if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Let him learn to say with the publican, "God be merciful to me a sinner," and he will go down justified. Encourage him to put away wickedness from his soul, to do good, to seek justice, and then God will make his scarlet sins white as snow. Intercede with boldness, but also with a heart full of mercy toward all, knowing that the Lord is rich in compassion and desires not the death of a sinner, but that he should turn and live.

The foundation you can stand on is this: God is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, when we confess them. That word “all” is a glorious word. It doesn’t matter how dark or tangled the past may be, the blood of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, is able to wash every stain completely away. The sacrifice of Jesus didn’t merely cover sin temporarily like the old offerings; it takes it away, once for all. No one is beyond the reach of that cleansing.
So as you pray for him, keep asking the Lord to open his eyes. The psalmist cried, “Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.” Ask God to make His Word alive to this man. The sure way anyone can cleanse his way is by taking heed according to God’s Word. When that truth gets planted deep in a heart, it becomes a powerful defense against sin and a source of strength. Pray that the Spirit would do that miraculous work, drawing him to see his need and to cry out for forgiveness from a whole heart.
Remember, only God can forgive sins. Jesus proved He has that authority when He healed the paralyzed man, showing that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins. When this man truly turns to Him and confesses, you can have confidence that the forgiveness is real and total, even if you can’t see the change in his heart all at once. If his heart condemns him, God is greater than his heart and knows all things. The enemy often tries to whisper that a person’s sins are too much, but the blood of Jesus speaks a better word.
While you intercede for him, also guard your own heart. Jesus gave a very straight, sobering word: when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you. That doesn’t mean forgiveness is earned by works; it means a heart that has truly received mercy will freely extend it. Walk in that grace yourself, and it will open the door for God to move powerfully.
