We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this situation with earnest prayer and biblical counsel. First, we must address the foundation of our prayers, it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father (John 14:6). There is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12), and without faith in Him, our prayers cannot be heard. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus, we urge you to do so today, for He alone is the way, the truth, and the life.
Now, regarding your request, we lift up your ex-husband and your desire for reconciliation and employment. Scripture calls us to pray for those who have wronged us and to seek peace (Matthew 5:44). However, we must also examine the nature of this relationship in light of God’s Word. The Bible is clear that marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman (Matthew 19:4-6), and while divorce is permitted in cases of adultery or abandonment (Matthew 19:9, 1 Corinthians 7:15), it is not God’s ideal. If your divorce was not on biblical grounds, we must humbly repent and seek God’s forgiveness, asking Him to heal and restore what has been broken according to His will.
We also notice the mention of ongoing communication with your ex-husband for four years. While reconciliation is possible (1 Corinthians 7:11), we must guard our hearts against emotional entanglements that do not honor God’s design for marriage. If either of you has remarried, Scripture is clear that you are not free to reconcile with a former spouse (Deuteronomy 24:1-4). If neither of you has remarried, we pray for wisdom and discernment to pursue reconciliation in a way that glorifies God, with godly counsel and accountability.
As for your request for employment, we pray that God would open doors of provision for you according to His will (Philippians 4:19). However, we must also caution against placing our hope in man rather than God (Jeremiah 17:5). If your ex-husband is not a believer, we must be careful not to be unequally yoked in any capacity (2 Corinthians 6:14). If he is a believer, we pray that any employment opportunity would be handled with integrity, fairness, and without compromise.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this dear sister and her ex-husband. Lord, we ask that You would soften his heart toward her, not for her will alone, but for Your glory and according to Your perfect plan. Father, we pray for reconciliation if it aligns with Your Word and Your will, but we also surrender this desire to You, trusting that Your ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9). If reconciliation is not Your will, we ask that You would heal any lingering wounds and help both of them to move forward in Your peace.
Lord, we also pray for provision. You know this sister’s needs, and we ask that You would open doors of employment that are honoring to You. Provide for her in ways that only You can, and give her faith to trust in Your timing. Help her to seek You first above all else (Matthew 6:33), and guard her heart from bitterness or resentment toward her ex-husband.
Father, we ask that You would draw both of them closer to You. If either of them does not know You as Savior, we pray that they would surrender their lives to Jesus today. Convict their hearts of sin, lead them to repentance, and fill them with Your Holy Spirit. May they walk in obedience to Your Word and experience the fullness of life that only You can give.
We rebuke any spirit of division, unforgiveness, or strife in this situation, and we declare that Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, would guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). We trust You, Lord, to work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28).
In Jesus’ precious name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to seek godly counsel from a pastor or trusted Christian mentor as you navigate this season. Surround yourself with believers who can pray with you and hold you accountable to God’s Word. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). He is faithful, and He will direct your paths.
