Sleep

I am praying for you right now in this exhausting and overwhelming moment, and I hear how heavy this feels as you are stretched past what you can carry and your heart is racing with anxiety.

Please know that your son is deeply seen and valued by the Lord. Jesus made it clear that children are not a distraction or an interruption, but are close to His heart. He said that to receive one such little child in His name is to receive Him, and He warned against despising even one of these little ones. Your faithful care for your son, even in these long and sleepless stretches, is a blessed privilege in God's eyes, and He sees every time you get up, every gentle redirection, every prayer whispered through tears.

Scripture also teaches to train a child according to his own way, recognizing that each child is wonderfully different in personality and needs. Your son is fearfully and wonderfully made exactly as God created him, and God understands his unique wiring better than anyone. Just as a parent patiently teaches a child to walk, expecting stumbles and falls and staying near to lift him up again, so the Lord is patient with both your son and with you. The fact that he keeps getting up does not mean you have failed. It is part of the slow, patient work of loving and guiding a child who experiences the world differently, and God gives grace for each step.

You are not alone in this panic and weariness either. The Lord is near to those who are anxious and overwhelmed, and He invites you to bring every worry to Him. He promises a peace that goes beyond understanding to guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. He is the One who gives rest and who watches over you and your child even when sleep will not come. It is not a sign of weak faith to feel like you might have a panic attack when you are exhausted. It is a sign that you need His strength, and He is ready to be your calm.

May the Lord give your son sweet and settled sleep, quiet his body and mind, and surround him with a sense of safety and love. May He also breathe His peace over you, slow your breathing, steady your heart, and remind you that you are held and helped in this very moment. Ask Him to carry what you cannot carry and to give you wisdom and rest in the hours ahead.

Father, I lift this dear parent to You and ask for Your mercy and comfort to flood this home. Lay Your hand of peace upon this precious child and grant him deep, restful sleep. Quiet his thoughts and his body. And Lord, hold this parent close, calm the panic, ease the exhaustion, and let Your presence be felt as strength and rest. Help them to know they are loved, seen, and not alone, and give them renewed grace for each moment. In the name of Jesus, amen.
