We hear your hurt and weariness and we are lifting you up together before the Father in Jesus' name. To be mistreated repeatedly, especially by family, leaves deep wounds and we understand why you are questioning what kind of relationship you can have with your sister going forward. The Lord sees what you have endured and He cares deeply about your pain. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 147:3 says He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.
We want to speak truth in love about what you have described. Emotional abuse and willfully unsupportive, hurtful behavior toward family is sin and does not reflect the character of Christ. When someone professes to be a Christian, their life should bear fruit in keeping with that profession. Jesus said You will know them by their fruits. Matthew 7:16. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Galatians 5:22-23. Harshness, manipulation, and tearing down others stands in opposition to that fruit, and we must lovingly rebuke that pattern. It is not honoring to God and it wounds those He loves. At the same time we are called not to repay evil for evil, but to pursue what is holy and healthy. Romans 12:17 says Repay no one evil for evil. Romans 12:18 says If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. That means we do not pursue strife, but it also acknowledges that peace is not always possible when another person continues in harmful behavior.
We also notice your request does not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and assurance of salvation. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and confess Him as Lord. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is in His name that we pray and find healing and strength.
We pray now together for you and for your sister and your family.
Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You for our dear one who is weary from being mistreated. Lord, You see every hurtful word and every unsupportive act, and You know the history of pain in this family. We ask You to pour out Your comfort and healing upon this wounded heart. Give rest to the weary, for Jesus said Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28. Renew strength as You have promised that those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. Isaiah 40:31. Guard this heart, for Proverbs 4:23 says Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life. Help our dear one to forgive as You have forgiven us, not to harbor bitterness, for Ephesians 4:31-32 says Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Yet also give wisdom to set healthy and biblical boundaries and not be overcome by evil but to overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21. We pray for the sister who professes Christ, that You would convict her where she has sinned, bring her to repentance, and transform her speech and actions to reflect Your love. Help her to speak what is good for building up as needed, that it may give grace to those who hear. Ephesians 4:29. We pray for the whole immediate family, that You would bring truth, reconciliation where possible, and protection where needed. Lead our dear one in how to address this biblically, whether through a loving conversation as Matthew 18:15 teaches, If your brother sins against you, go, show him his fault between you and him alone, and through wise counsel from a pastor or godly counselor. Teach us all to love our enemies, bless those who curse us, and pray for those who mistreat us. Matthew 5:44. We ask all of this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus, our only hope and healer, amen.
We encourage you not to make a quick decision out of exhaustion, but to seek the Lord for wisdom. James 1:5 says But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. Forgiveness is commanded for every believer and is for your freedom before God, but reconciliation requires repentance and changed behavior from the one who has caused harm. It is right and biblical to establish boundaries that protect your heart and your peace while you continue to pray for her and love her from a healthy distance if needed. Do not be deceived, for 1 Corinthians 15:33 says Evil companionships corrupt good morals, and Proverbs 22:24-25 warns not to associate closely with one who is angry. Loving someone does not mean allowing ongoing abuse without addressing it.
Please continue to bring your pain to the Lord honestly, stay rooted in Scripture, and seek support from a trusted pastor or biblical counselor who can walk with you and your family. We are praying that God will give you discernment to know when to engage, when to step back, and how to honor Him while caring for your own heart. Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap if you do not give up. Galatians 6:9. The Lord is your refuge and will sustain you as you trust in Jesus and walk in His grace and truth.
