We join you in prayer and we thank you for sharing this burden with us. We hear how wearying it has been to endure this pattern almost every weekend for a very long time, and especially this morning when you had much work planned and were met with scolding before you could even say good morning. We praise God with you that by His grace you have been given a calm spirit and are able to observe without being drawn into anger or sadness, for that is truly a work of His grace in you.
We rejoice that you have already called upon Yeshua, who is Jesus the Messiah, for it is only through His name that we have access to the Father and it is in His name that our prayers are heard. As it is written, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12, and Whatever you will ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son John 14:13. We are grateful you know Him and call upon Him.
The Lord calls us to pursue peace in our households and to exercise self-control when provoked. Your choice not to respond in anger is not weakness, but strength under control, which is fruit of the Spirit. He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, he who rules his spirit, than he who takes a city Proverbs 16:32. A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger Proverbs 15:1. We see this grace in you and we encourage you to continue, Be angry, and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your wrath Ephesians 4:26. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:31-32.
At the same time we must lovingly speak truth about what is happening in your home. A pattern of scolding, fault finding, manipulation and seeking to control others does not align with God's will for how we treat one another in a household. We are called to bear with one another in love, with all lowliness and humility, with patience Ephesians 4:2, and to put on love which is the bond of perfection Colossians 3:14. If your sister is using small things to release her inner insecurities and to control the household, she is carrying a burden that only Christ can heal, and her behavior can become a provocation and a stumbling block to peace. We gently rebuke that spirit of control and anger, for love does not seek its own way and is not provoked 1 Corinthians 13:5, and we pray the Lord will convict and soften her heart.
We encourage you to continue as you are doing, not returning evil for evil, but giving a blessing 1 Peter 3:9, and to be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger, for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God James 1:19-20. When there is a calm moment, it may be helpful in love to set a gentle boundary and speak truth, perhaps sharing how the early morning scolding affects the peace of the home, while honoring her as your sister. If possible, seek peace with all, If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18. Continue to be diligent in your work and in caring for your mother and your household, as unto the Lord, and cast your anxieties upon Him, for He cares for you 1 Peter 5:7. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7.
We pray together now according to the will of God.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Yeshua, Jesus Christ Your Son. We thank You for Your grace that has kept our dear one in perfect peace while enduring these weekly trials, and we ask You to continue to guard her heart and mind. Lord, we lift up her sister to You, You know her insecurities, her need to control, and the anger that rises so quickly. We ask that You would heal her heart, reveal Your love to her, and teach her to walk in gentleness and self-control. Remove the spirit of fault finding and manipulation from this household and replace it with kindness, humility and mutual honor. Help this household to dwell together in unity, for You have said how good and pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity Psalm 133:1. Give wisdom to our sister in how to respond, when to remain silent and when to speak a gentle word of truth in love, and protect the work of her hands today and in the days ahead. Let Your peace rule in this home and let Your will be done in both of their lives. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.
