Should I worry?

Beloved of All
Life and it just seems like constant pressure, all about money, lust and lusted over. Worries at work and if I lose ### job what I do? Worry about women and so much distractions. For troubles without number surround me; my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails within me. 13 Be pleased to save me, LORD; come quickly, LORD, to help me. Psalm 40:12

We hear the weight of your heart in these words, and we stand with you in bringing these burdens before the Lord. The pressures of life—financial strain, workplace anxieties, and the relentless pull of lust and distraction—can feel overwhelming, especially when coupled with the conviction of sin. You are not alone in this struggle. The psalmist’s cry in Psalm 40:12 echoes your own: *"For troubles without number surround me; my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails within me."* This is a holy discontent, a recognition that the world’s ways are not satisfying and that only God can bring true peace.

First, we must address the root of these struggles with honesty and repentance. The Bible is clear that lust—whether it’s the desire for money, possessions, or sexual gratification outside of God’s design—is a snare that leads to emptiness. Jesus warned in Matthew 6:24, *"No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."* And in 1 John 2:16, we read, *"For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, isn’t the Father’s, but is the world’s."* These distractions are not just harmless temptations; they are tools the enemy uses to pull us away from God’s best for us.

If you are engaging in sexual sin—whether through pornography, fornication, or any other form of lust—we must rebuke that in Jesus’ name. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 commands, *"Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."* This is not to shame you but to call you to the freedom that comes from walking in purity. Confess these sins to the Lord, and He is faithful to forgive and cleanse you (1 John 1:9). Seek accountability with a trusted brother in Christ who can pray with you and help you walk in victory.

Your fear about losing your job is understandable, but we must remind you that your security is not in your employment or financial stability. Jesus taught in Matthew 6:31-33, *"Therefore don’t be anxious, saying, ‘What will we eat?’, ‘What will we drink?’ or, ‘With what will we be clothed?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."* This does not mean you should not plan or work diligently, but it does mean that your trust must ultimately be in God, not in your paycheck. If you lose your job, He will provide. If you are struggling with financial idolatry—placing money or security above God—repent and ask Him to realign your heart.

We also notice that you did not mention Jesus in your request. This is not a small oversight; it is a critical truth. There is no access to God except through Jesus Christ. John 14:6 declares, *"Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.’"* Acts 4:12 reinforces this: *"There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* If you have not surrendered your life to Jesus, now is the time. Salvation is not found in good works, religious rituals, or even heartfelt prayers—it is found in repenting of your sins and placing your faith in Jesus’ death and resurrection. Romans 10:9 says, *"If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."*

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother who is carrying heavy burdens. Lord, we thank You that You see his struggles and that You are near to the brokenhearted. We ask that You would break the chains of lust and distraction in his life. Cleanse him from all unrighteousness and fill him with Your Holy Spirit so that he may walk in purity and purpose. Father, we rebuke the spirit of fear that is gripping his heart—fear of financial lack, fear of the future, fear of not measuring up. Remind him that You are his Provider, his Security, and his Strength. Help him to seek You first above all else.

Lord, if he does not yet know You as Savior, we pray that You would draw him to Yourself. Open his eyes to see his need for Jesus and give him the faith to surrender his life to You. Forgive his sins, wash him clean, and make him new. If he is already Your child, renew his mind and heart. Help him to cast all his anxieties on You because You care for him (1 Peter 5:7). Surround him with godly men who can encourage and sharpen him. Give him wisdom in his work and peace in his soul.

We declare that no weapon formed against him will prosper (Isaiah 54:17) and that You will complete the good work You have begun in him (Philippians 1:6). Strengthen his heart, Lord, and let him find his rest in You alone. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

You are not meant to carry these burdens alone. The enemy wants you to believe that your struggles are too great, that your sins are too many, or that God is too distant. But the truth is that Jesus has already overcome the world (John 16:33), and He invites you to come to Him when you are weary and heavy-laden so that He can give you rest (Matthew 11:28). Lay down your worries at His feet. Seek first His Kingdom, and everything else will fall into place.

If you are not yet part of a local church, we strongly encourage you to find one where the Word of God is preached faithfully and where you can grow in community with other believers. You need fellowship, accountability, and the sacraments to strengthen you in this journey. If you are already part of a church, lean into that community. Share your struggles with your pastor or a trusted friend. You do not have to fight this battle alone.

Finally, immerse yourself in Scripture. The psalms are a great place to start when you are overwhelmed. Psalm 55:22 says, *"Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved."* Memorize verses like this and speak them over your life when the enemy tries to steal your peace. God’s Word is a lamp to your feet and a light to your path (Psalm 119:105). Let it guide you out of the darkness and into His marvelous light.

Oh friend, we hear your heart's cry and we're here with you, standing in the gap. You're feeling the weight of the world, the constant pressure, the worries that seem to never cease. It's like you're in a storm, and you're trying to hold onto something, anything, but it's all slipping through your fingers.

First, let's remember who we are in Christ. We are His beloved children, bought with a price, and He has not given up on us. Even in our sin, He is there, waiting, loving, ready to forgive and cleanse. So, let's confess our sins to Him, every last one. He's not surprised by them, and He's not shaming us. He's just waiting for us to turn to Him, to repent, and to be made new.

Now, about your job. It's natural to worry, but remember, our Father knows what we need even before we ask. He's not surprised by your situation either. So, let's trust Him. Let's work hard, do our best, and then leave the rest to Him. If you lose your job, He's got a plan. He'll provide. He always does.

And listen, we noticed you didn't mention Jesus in your request. That's okay, we're not here to judge, just to remind you that Jesus is the only way to the Father. He said it Himself, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." So, if you haven't already, give your life to Him. Surrender your all to Him. He's waiting with open arms.

Let's pray together, shall we? "Dear Lord, we come before You today, carrying the burdens of our friend. Lord, we ask that You would break the chains of sin and fear in their life. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, Lord. Help them to seek You first, above all else. If they don't know You yet, Lord, draw them to Yourself. Forgive their sins, wash them clean, and make them new. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

You're not alone in this, friend. We're here, and so is Jesus. Let's walk this road together, one step at a time, trusting in Him.
