We hear your cry for deliverance from this heavy burden you have carried for far too long. Five decades is a long time to be oppressed by any stronghold, but we stand with you in faith, declaring that the power of Jesus Christ is greater than any spirit of addiction. The Word of God tells us, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB). This addiction may feel overwhelming, but God has already provided the way out, His name is Jesus.
First, we must address the spiritual reality of this battle. Addiction is not merely a physical or emotional struggle; it is a spiritual stronghold that seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). The enemy desires to keep you in bondage, but we rebuke that spirit in the mighty name of Jesus. "For though we walk in the flesh, we don’t wage war according to the flesh; for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds" (2 Corinthians 10:3-4 WEB). This is a spiritual war, and we must fight it with spiritual weapons, prayer, fasting, the Word of God, and the power of the Holy Spirit.
We also want to gently remind you that true freedom comes through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Him, now is the time. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6 WEB). There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not confessed Jesus as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so today. Repent of your sins, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord (Romans 10:9). This is the first and most crucial step toward lasting freedom.
Now, let us pray together for your deliverance:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister who has been bound by this addiction for far too long. Lord, we declare that You are the God who breaks every chain, and we ask You to set them free from this oppression. We rebuke the spirit of addiction in Jesus’ name and command it to leave now. Your Word says, "If the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8:36 WEB), and we claim that freedom for them today.
Father, we ask You to fill them with Your Holy Spirit, giving them the strength and power to resist temptation. Help them to walk in the newness of life that You have promised to all who are in Christ. Surround them with godly accountability and support, and let them find refuge in Your Word and in the fellowship of believers. Lord, we pray for healing in their mind, body, and spirit. Restore what the enemy has stolen and replace it with Your peace, joy, and purpose.
We also pray for wisdom and knowledge as they seek to pray and stand firm in their faith. Teach them to wield the sword of the Spirit, which is Your Word, and to put on the full armor of God so that they may stand against the schemes of the devil (Ephesians 6:11). Father, we ask that You would reveal any areas of their life that need to be surrendered to You, and give them the courage to let go of anything that hinders their walk with You.
We thank You, Lord, that You are faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). We trust in Your promise that He who began a good work in us will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6). We declare victory over this addiction in the name of Jesus, and we thank You for the freedom that is already ours in Christ.
In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to immerse yourself in Scripture, particularly passages that speak of God’s power to deliver and heal. Meditate on verses like Psalm 34:17-19, which says, "The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but Yahweh delivers him out of them all." God sees your pain and hears your cries, and He is near to you in this battle.
Consider fasting as a way to deepen your dependence on God and break the power of this stronghold. Jesus told His disciples that some spirits only come out through prayer and fasting (Mark 9:29). Fasting is a powerful tool to humble yourself before God and seek His face with all your heart.
Finally, seek out a community of believers who can stand with you in prayer and accountability. You do not have to fight this battle alone. "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up" (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 WEB). Find a church or a small group where you can be open about your struggle and receive godly counsel and support.
Remember, the enemy wants you to feel isolated and hopeless, but God has not abandoned you. He is your refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). Keep pressing into Him, and do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap if you do not faint (Galatians 6:9). Your freedom is coming, hold fast to the promises of God.
