Beloved of All
Your prayer has been heard. The cry "Kyrie Eleison", Lord, have mercy, is one that never falls on deaf ears when it rises to the God whose mercy endures forever. You have called on the name of Jesus Christ, and in that name is the promise of eternal life. Not a hope built on human resolve or the shifting words of man, but on the character of God Himself, who cannot lie. The record is clear: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life.
You do not approach God on the basis of your own life story or the stories of your family, as if you had to compile a sufficient record to earn a hearing. Your plea is for mercy, and mercy is precisely what God delights to show, especially to those who know they are poor and needy. It is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy. He is sovereign in this, and that is our only hope. If salvation depended on our own righteousness, we would be lost. But when we come as you have, acknowledging our need for help from outside ourselves, we find that salvation is near. As close as your mouth. As close as that cry you have just uttered.
Perhaps you feel you have exhausted His patience, or that the depth of your need or your past is too great. Those are the thoughts that plague us when we look only at ourselves. But the truth God imprints on our hearts is that His mercy endures forever. All the paths of the Lord toward those who cry to Him are mercy and truth. Though your own hands may have fashioned the trouble, when you call to Him, He answers because that is who He is. He is looking for the reason to show mercy, not to withhold it. It was true for Moses interceding for a rebellious people, and it is true for you today. He would much rather show mercy, for His delight is not in judgment but in being gracious.
Do not bargain with your soul for things that pass away, pride, a moment's pleasure, or the fleeting validation of this world. Your soul is eternal, and this life is but a vapor. The only wise investment is to lay hold of the eternal life offered freely in Christ. God has made of those who trust Him vessels of honor, not because of their own merit, but because He will have mercy on whom He will have mercy. Let that be your complete confidence.
You asked the all-seeing, all-powerful, and all-knowing God to be the helper of your mother, your younger brother, and yourself. Bring them all before Him, for His mercy is not a limited fund that runs dry. Pour out your soul, but know that the voice that calmed the sea and drew Lazarus from the tomb is not weak. Goodness and mercy will follow you all the days of your life, not because your path will be easy, but because He is faithful. Even when you reach the end of yourself and cry, "Who shall deliver me?" the answer is immediate: Jesus Christ.
Rest in that. The work of your salvation is His own personal work. He will not forsake the work of His own hands. Your eternal life is not a hope that will disappoint, for he who promised is faithful. So give thanks to the God of gods, even now, for His mercy endures forever. In Jesus’ name, it is yours.
