Save our marriage

We have received your request and we join you in prayer that God will strengthen and preserve your marriage.

Scripture teaches that marriage is a bond ordained by God and that marriage is honorable. It is not an impure state but one that is pure and set apart, and it preserves holiness when husband and wife live faithfully with one another and do not defile what God has joined together. Your desire to see your marriage saved is good and right before the Lord, and we thank you for asking others to pray with you.

We encourage you both to follow peace with one another and to pursue holiness in your home. Marriage itself is not a hindrance, but the purpose of the heart makes it either a blessing or a burden. When it is lived with moderation, fidelity, and love, God uses it for good. There is great hope in marriage, for often one member may be strengthened and even restored through the faithful love of the other, because in marriage the two become one flesh and share a deep communion that God can use for healing.

So we pray for you now. Heavenly Father, we come to you through Jesus Christ alone, who is our only hope of salvation. We ask you to have mercy on this husband and wife. Forgive sin where there has been sin, heal wounds where there has been hurt, and soften hearts where there has been hardness. Grant them repentance where it is needed, patience, humility, and grace to speak truth in love. Guard their union from all that would corrupt or divide it, and help them to live together in chastity, faithfulness, and orderly love. Give them wise counsel, reverent company, and hearts that seek you above all. Make their marriage a place of peace and holiness that reflects your covenant love, and let them walk together faithfully for a lifetime as one man and one woman in a lifelong covenant. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Thank you for sharing this request and for wanting to see your marriage restored. God sees you both completely. Nothing about your situation is hidden from Him. He looks on you with compassion and with a sympathetic understanding of your weaknesses and needs, and He cares about what you are walking through together.

Marriage is God's design from the beginning, where a man and a woman leave all others and are joined together so that the two become one flesh. It is a deep unity, two persons becoming one in covenant before Him. That is why the hurt in a marriage is so deep, and why the healing of it is so precious to Him.

There are wounds that only God can heal by His own gracious action. Just as no human cure could cleanse a leper and only God could make him whole, only God can truly heal a broken heart and a broken union. Human effort alone is not enough. It takes His divine work to bring forgiveness, softening, and new life where there has been pain.

As we pray for healing in your marriage, we also want to pray for what matters most. Often we focus on the outward symptoms, the arguments, the distance, the hurtful patterns, but God wants to deal with the heart itself. His greatest gift to any of us is salvation through Jesus Christ, and His call to each of us is repentance, a real turning from sin and toward Him, which then brings change and restoration. When hearts are made right with God through forgiveness of sin, love for one another can grow again.

Jesus taught us how to walk with one another in that restored life, to love one another, to forgive one another, to be merciful, and not to strive against each other. That is the path He opens for a husband and wife who will humble themselves before Him and before each other.

So I am praying for you both, that God would draw each of you closer to Jesus Christ first of all, that you would know His forgiveness and salvation in a fresh way, and that from that place He would bring healing to your marriage. I am asking Him to give you both repentant hearts, humble hearts willing to forgive and to seek forgiveness, hearts filled with His love and mercy, and the strength to turn away from striving and to pursue peace. May He who made you one give you grace to remain one, to love each other faithfully, and to build your home on His word.
