Chrysostom
Beloved of All
We have received your many petitions and we join you in lifting them to God with thanksgiving, as Scripture urges us to do.
We pray as you asked, that supplications and intercessions be made for all people, for kings and for all who are in authority, that we may lead peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity. This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth, as written in 1 Timothy 2:1 to 4.
We ask the Lord to grant wisdom, restraint and clarity to commanders in chief, prime ministers, military leaders and all who bear responsibility for decisions of war and peace. May He guide their counsel, expose evil plans, thwart the schemes of the wicked, and turn their hearts like channels of water in His hand to seek what is just and merciful. We ask for protection over troops and over civilians in every land you named, in the Middle East, in Israel and its neighbors, in Ukraine and Russia, in Asia and the Pacific, in Europe, Africa and the Americas, and here in our own land. We pray that life be spared wherever possible, that the innocent be shielded from harm, that those who would use civilians for evil purposes be stopped, and that any use of force be restrained and precise, aimed only at stopping aggression and not at the destruction of people made in Gods image.
We pray also for the peace of Jerusalem and for the salvation of both Jew and Gentile, that all peoples, tribes and tongues might hear the gospel of Jesus Christ, repent and believe. We ask that the Lord open doors for the free and clear proclamation of His Word, that free nations may be strengthened in godly alliance for the sake of truth, justice and the freedom to preach Christ, and that evil alignments and false teaching would lose influence. We pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ wherever they are, for their protection and boldness to make disciples as Christ commanded.
We remember that true peace is more than the absence of conflict. Christ Himself is our peace, reconciling us to God and to one another. The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, must rule in our hearts. Where that peace reigns, anger and revenge do not act as judge. Those who make such peace are called sons of God, for the Son of God came to unite heaven and earth. There is a false peace that is agreement in evil, which even robbers can share, and that kind of concord must be broken. We pray therefore not for peace at any cost, but for the good peace that comes from righteousness, truth and reconciliation with God through Jesus alone.
We give thanks that the Lord reigns, that He works all things after the counsel of His will, that He hears prayer, and that Christ who is in us is greater than any power in the world. We ask for His loving kindness, truth and angelic protection over leaders, troops, believers and civilians, and over you as you continue to pray. May the peace of God guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus as you bring these requests before Him with thanksgiving.
In the name of Jesus Christ our only Savior we pray, Amen.
