Chrysostom
Beloved of All
We join you in lifting these requests before the Lord, according to the call in 1 Timothy 2 to make prayers, petitions, intercessions and thanksgivings for all people, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity, which is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior who wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
We pray with you for salvation through Jesus Christ alone, for He alone is the way of forgiveness and reconciliation with God. We ask that the gospel would go forth with freedom and clarity in every nation you named and beyond, that Jews and Gentiles, and peoples of every tribe and tongue, would hear, repent, believe and be saved. We pray for the peace of Jerusalem and for the protection and salvation of all who live in the lands of the Middle East and around the world, and that the Church would truly be a house of prayer for all nations.
We also pray for wisdom, humility and guidance for commanders in chief, prime ministers, military leaders and all who bear responsibility in these conflicts. We ask God to grant them counsel that seeks to preserve life wherever possible, to protect innocent civilians from being placed in harm's way, to act with restraint and precision, and to thwart every plan that is evil or unjust. We pray for the safety of troops and civilians alike, that there would be no unnecessary loss of life, and for the Lord's protection over those who are vulnerable, including our brothers and sisters in Christ. We ask that God would expose threats, frustrate the schemes of the wicked, and turn the hearts of rulers like channels of water in His hand, for He sits in the heavens and does whatever He pleases and works all things according to the counsel of His will.
We thank God for every leader who seeks to govern honestly and justly, and we pray for godly alliances among free nations that would uphold truth, justice, freedom of speech and the open proclamation of the gospel. We pray that evil alignments would lose influence, that false teaching and persecution would be brought to nothing, and that what is taught and published would serve the making of disciples in all nations.
We remember that our ultimate protection is in Christ. We submit ourselves to God, we honor the governing authorities as Scripture teaches, and we put on the armor of God, asking for His loving kindness, truth and angelic protection, knowing that He who is in us is greater than he who is in the world. As you have asked, we pray that the peace of God would guard hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, and that in all these things God would be glorified, His people would be edified and kept in unity, and many would be brought to salvation.
We will continue to pray with thanksgiving that the Lord God omnipotent reigns, that He hears our prayers, and that He will accomplish His good purposes for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose, in Jesus' name.
