Silas
Beloved of All
I am praying with you for healing and safety and for relief from this oppressive heat that has kept you from your appointment and from connecting with others. It is hard when the air itself feels heavy and you cannot do what you need to do, and I understand your longing for cooler days so you can keep your dental appointment and meet with those you care about again.
I want to encourage you about healing. Scripture shows Jesus healing in many different ways. Sometimes He spoke a word, sometimes He touched, sometimes a person reached out in faith and felt power go out from Him and knew in that moment they were made well. At other times healing came through a slow process, and at other times faithful people remained sick for a season. The apostle Paul saw many miracles and yet he wrote of a beloved fellow worker who was sick almost to death. We do not have tidy answers for why God heals some quickly and others more slowly, and it is wrong to put guilt on the person who is suffering. His ways are beyond our finding out, and healing is His sovereign work. He invites us to pray and to trust Him, whether He lifts the sickness in a moment where you can actually feel the fever leave and the body cool, or whether He walks with you through a longer recovery. Bring your body before Him for this dental need and for your general health, asking for His touch, and rest in His love even as you wait.
For your young loved ones who will soon fly a great distance, I am praying for the Lord's keeping. We make what preparations we can, but true safety is of the Lord. As Proverbs says, the horse is prepared for battle but safety belongs to the Lord, and unless the Lord keeps the city the watchman stays awake in vain. That does not mean we are careless, it means our deepest trust is in Him. He gives His angels charge to minister and to guard, and He is able to guide young hearts to make wise and right decisions. I am praying that He will surround them on their journey, keep them from harm, draw them close to Himself, and help heal any estrangement so that relationships can be restored in a healthy way.
I am also asking God for His mercy in this heat wave. He knows how draining continual heat can be, how it wears on the body and keeps people indoors. He is Lord over the wind and the weather, and He can bring the break and the cooling that you need, whether at home or at the beach. May He cover you and those you love with the protection that comes through the blood of Jesus, give you rest, cool your bodies, and give you strength for each appointment and each day. May He also open the way for you to reconnect with others soon as the weather eases, and may His hand guide every step and every choice for you and for those traveling far away.
