Beloved of All
It is encouraging to hear your testimony of God's faithfulness on the road and your desire to keep giving Him thanks. Every safe arrival home is a reminder that His mercy endures forever, in every circumstance and every season. That truth is worth repeating until it settles deep in the heart, because it is true in all situations without exception.
The same God who stretched out the earth above the waters and made the great lights, the sun to rule by day and the moon and stars to rule by night, is the God who watches over you as you travel. The Creator has not stepped away from His creation. His mercy is as vast as it is lasting. Scripture says it is as high as the heavens are above the earth, which means there is no limit to its height and no end to its duration. It will cover you.
It is important to remember what mercy is. Grace is receiving good that we do not deserve. Mercy is not receiving the judgment that we do deserve. None of us can claim mercy as a right. God Himself has said, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. He is sovereign in showing mercy, and we can be grateful that He has chosen to show it to us. He delights in mercy and looks for every reason to forgive when we come to Him with a humble heart and say, Lord, I am sorry. When we call upon Him, His mercy is available, because it endures forever.
That mercy and truth have met together in Jesus Christ. On the cross, justice was satisfied and mercy was poured out, so that righteousness and peace could come together. Through Jesus, you can come boldly to the throne of grace to find mercy and help in time of need, including every mile of a journey through a world that can be dangerous. As you set out, it is good to wait upon the Lord and commit the way to Him in prayer, trusting that His good hand will strengthen you, sustain you, and protect you from harm along the way.
Your prayer from Habakkuk is a beautiful one, in wrath remember mercy. It is right to ask God to make His deeds known in our own time and to show mercy even as He is holy and just.
