Chrysostom
Beloved of All
The pain of being slandered by one so close cuts deeply, an injury to the soul from an unexpected quarter. Yet take heart: these lies, though they feel like a crushing sea, have no power to truly harm you if you stand firm in the truth. Our Lord taught that what defiles comes from within, not from the words of others; your ###’s falsehoods defile her own heart, not yours. You, for your part, must guard your tongue from retaliation, for every idle word will be accounted for, and returning evil for evil only wounds yourself.
Instead, use this trial to draw near to God in prayer, not just for deliverance but for her. When we are overwhelmed, like Israel at the Red Sea, the path of escape appears not by removing the trial but by walking through it with faith. Do not ask merely that the problem vanish, but that God grants you patience, boldness, and love. If she persists, remember the apostle’s word: if the unbelieving depart, let them depart; you are not in bondage to her slander.
Entrust your reputation to the Judge who sees all, knowing that false accusations ultimately do more damage to the accuser than to the innocent who endure silently. Your quiet faithfulness will be your vindication, and your prayer may yet open a door for her repentance.
