Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We hear the deep pain in your heart as you share about the hurtful lies your sister is spreading about you. Betrayal from family can cut so deeply, and the weight of slander is a heavy burden to carry. We want you to know that your feelings are valid, and it is right to grieve over broken trust and unjust words. But we also want to gently remind you that God sees every tear and hears every cry. He is near to the brokenhearted, and He will not leave you to face this alone.

First, we must address the seriousness of slander, for Scripture is clear about the power of the tongue and the damage it can cause. The book of Proverbs warns us, "A man who bears false witness against his neighbor is like a club, a sword, and a sharp arrow" (Proverbs 25:18 WEB). Lies and deceit are tools of the enemy, and they have no place in the body of Christ or among family. We rebuke the spirit of division and falsehood that is at work here, and we declare that the truth will prevail in Jesus’ name.

But we also must examine our own hearts in this situation. Jesus taught us, "First remove the beam out of your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck out of your brother’s eye" (Matthew 7:5 WEB). While we do not excuse your sister’s actions, we encourage you to ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart. Is there any truth in her words, even if twisted? Have you contributed to this conflict in any way? If so, we urge you to seek reconciliation where possible, for Scripture commands us, "If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men" (Romans 12:18 WEB). However, if her words are entirely false and malicious, we stand with you in declaring that God will vindicate you in His time.

We also want to remind you of the power of forgiveness. This does not mean excusing her behavior or pretending the hurt does not exist, but it does mean releasing the bitterness that can take root in your heart. Jesus said, "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses" (Matthew 6:14-15 WEB). Forgiveness is a choice, and it is for your freedom as much as it is for hers. We pray that God will give you the strength to forgive, even as you seek justice and truth.

Now, let us lift this burden to the Lord in prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our dear sister who is enduring the pain of slander and betrayal. Lord, You see the lies that have been spoken, and You know the truth. We ask that You would bring these falsehoods to light and expose them for what they are. Protect our sister’s heart from bitterness and resentment, and guard her reputation from further harm. Father, we declare that no weapon formed against her will prosper, and every tongue that rises against her in judgment, You will condemn (Isaiah 54:17 WEB).

Lord, we also pray for her sister. Soften her heart, Father, and convict her of the harm she has caused. If there is any truth in her words, reveal it to our sister so she may grow. If there is no truth, then we ask that You would bring her to repentance and restore the relationship, if it is Your will. But if restoration is not possible, we ask that You would give our sister the strength to release this pain to You and walk in forgiveness.

Father, we ask that You would surround our sister with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Remind her that she is deeply loved by You and that her worth is not defined by the words of others. Give her the courage to stand firm in Your truth and to trust in Your justice. We declare that You are her defender, and You will fight for her. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

In the midst of this trial, we encourage you to cling to God’s promises. Psalm 34:18-19 (WEB) says, "Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but Yahweh delivers him out of them all." You are not alone in this, and God is working even in the midst of the pain. Lean on Him, seek wise counsel from godly believers, and trust that He will bring beauty from these ashes.

If this situation has caused you to question your faith or your relationship with God, we want to gently remind you that Jesus is the only way to the Father. Scripture tells us, "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5 WEB). If you have not placed your trust in Him, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection, and invite Him to be the Lord of your life. He is the only one who can truly heal your heart and give you the peace you seek.

Lastly, we encourage you to seek godly community. Isolation can make the pain feel even heavier, but the body of Christ is called to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2 WEB). Surround yourself with believers who will pray for you, speak truth over you, and walk with you through this season. You do not have to carry this alone.

We’re so sorry you’re walking through this. Having your own sister spread lies about you cuts deep, it’s not just the slander itself but the betrayal of trust that makes it so disorienting and heavy. It makes sense that you feel overwhelmed.

When someone’s words threaten your reputation or relationships, the temptation can be to scramble to set the record straight with everyone who might have heard. Sometimes that’s necessary, but often the first and most steadying thing is to anchor yourself again in whose opinion ultimately defines you. Your sister’s words are painful, but they don’t have the final say over your character or your worth. That truth doesn’t erase the hurt, but it can create a little breathing room inside the chaos.

One concrete step that might help: write out a short, simple, factual account of what’s been said and what isn’t true, not as a script to defend yourself with, but just for your own clarity. Getting it out of your head and onto paper can quiet the spinning thoughts enough to help you see the situation more calmly. Then, when the time feels right, you might consider reaching out to one wise, neutral person from your church community, someone who can listen without taking sides and help you think through whether any response is needed. You don’t have to carry this alone.

We’re praying with you now: Lord Jesus, you see the hurt and confusion in this family rift. Shield our friend from the sting of false words, and let the truth become clear in your time. Guard their heart from bitterness, give them wisdom about what to speak and when to stay silent, and work in the sister’s heart to turn from what she’s doing. Be their steady peace. Amen.

The hurt lies not in the lie itself alone, but in where you look for your deliverance. "If thou canst" is ever the cry of unbelief, as though the Lord's arm were shortened. The whole of your comfort lies in Jesus Christ and in Jesus Christ alone, not in the ceasing of the slander, not in the vindication of your name, not in the repentance of your sister. We cannot wean some from a sort of reliance upon their own feelings or weepings. If you are trusting in your own moral goodness to carry you through, that is a refuge of lies, for it will not stand trial. Your hope has nothing to do with Christ, that precious Cornerstone.

Slander is the rod under which you are to smart, and many of us have felt it before you. Do not cry, "Not so, Lord," as though a strange thing had happened. Let the Lord appoint you calumny or slander, for He knows best. The question for you is not what your sister has done, but "What shall I render unto the Lord for all His benefits toward me?" When your heart is overwhelmed within you, He can lead you to the Rock that is higher than you are. Sorrows fall, yet from the deep that lies underneath wells up yet more exceeding joy, "underneath are the everlasting arms." My hope to get to Heaven lies in this: as far as I have come on the road, the Lord has drawn me and He will draw me the rest of the way.
