Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for bringing this heavy burden for prayer. The fear your friend's mother is feeling is completely understandable, facing such a serious medical decision while also dealing with diabetes and a near crisis so recently, and hearing two very different recommendations from doctors. We are praying with you for her and for your friend.
What you describe shows the difference between knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge gives facts and information, and the doctors have knowledge about her condition and about surgery. Wisdom is knowing what to do with that knowledge, how to apply it rightly. Scripture teaches that wisdom is more valuable than riches or anything else we might desire, and that nothing we want can compare to it. Wisdom lives with prudence and good judgment, and it offers protection and even life to those who have it.
The Bible also teaches that the reverence for the Lord is where both knowledge and wisdom begin. In one sense it is the sum total of true knowledge, and in another sense it is the very first step toward wisdom. To reverence the Lord is to hate evil and to turn away from it, to walk in a way that honors Him. It is not a shaking fear that hides in a corner, but a holy respect and trust that looks to God as the source of all understanding. In Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, and a sincere search for wisdom will lead us to seek Him. The wisdom that comes from above is different from the wisdom of this world, which often ends in confusion and comes to nothing. The wisdom from God brings purity and peace and bears good fruit in our lives.
For your friend's mother, this means the greatest need beyond medical facts is wisdom from God. He gives wisdom generously when we ask Him. We are asking Him to give that wisdom to her, to her family, and to the doctors who are advising her, so that the decision made will be the most prudent and life giving one. We are also asking Him to replace fear with His peace, to steady her heart as she trusts in Him, and to guide every step with clear understanding.
We join you in prayer:
Father, we lift up this dear mother to You in the name of Jesus. You see her fear, her weakness, and the difficult choice before her. We ask You to grant wisdom from above to her and to those who care for her, that they may know what is right to do. Give the doctors prudence and sound judgment. Give her and her family peace that comes from reverencing You and trusting You. Touch her body, bring stability after this near crisis with her diabetes, and bring healing according to Your will. Let her know Your presence and Your care, and let Your wisdom guard her life. Help her to depart from fear and to rest in You, who gives knowledge and understanding out of Your mouth. We ask this in Jesus name, amen.
