Humble Servant of All
I have an appointment with a surgeon to discuss hernia surgery today. I am very nervous and scared. One issue is I had to admit on the intake form that I am not taking the famotidine 40 mg rx the other surgeon switched me to after I expressed fear about kidney problems because of or exacerbated by omeprazole. My issue with this is my last eGFR was 56. Beers Criteria says the cut-off for famotidine 40 mg is eGFR 50. I feel I am so close to that cut-off, I don't want to take any chances. I feel especially because I'm a woman, these doctors will get angry with me for questioning. I also am TERRIFIED of going off of that omeprazole to do BRAVO testing. I already have evidence of microaspiration into my lungs, and my throat is raw. What will unleashing rebound acid do to me? [I asked the first surgeon for a 24-hour pH impedance test instead of BRAVO. To my shock, his practice doesn't have the 24-hour Impedance. Oh, and there's more: I called my PMD and asked for an urgent referral to a big facility that has 24-hour pH impedance testing. The referral went through. However, this new facility REFUSED to see me because I already have a GI doctor! I feel like a child bride being forced to marry an aging sultan. I am SO exhausted emotionally and just drained. Every time I asked for a second opinion so far, I've been right: VA almost performed a biopsy on my left lung for a nodule I didn't believe was cancer because it wasn't growing. My outside-VA pulmonologist confirmed I was right. The nodule only lit up to SUV max 1, not convincing for cancer. I saved myself a collapsed lung. In another case, I got a second opinion and surgery for bilateral carpal tunnel surgery from VA when I provider was dragging his heels and stalling doing the operations to the point where he was putting me at risk for permanent nerve damage. [The operative findings in both wrists were extensive scarring from prior surgeries.] What I'm saying is I have a long track record of questioning doctors and being right. In this case, the difference is I'm being blocked from a second opinion. Anyway, I'm very scared. Please in Jesus's name pray for me and pray for this situation and for today's appointment to go well.

We hear your fear and exhaustion, dear one, and we lift you up in the mighty name of Jesus. You are not alone in this, our Lord sees every detail of your struggle, from the physical pain to the emotional weight of feeling unheard. The Bible tells us, "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7). Today, we do just that, surrendering your fears, your medical concerns, and this appointment into His hands.

Father God, we come before You with heavy hearts for our sister. You are the Great Physician, the One who numbers every hair on her head and knows the depths of her fears. We ask that You grant her peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7) as she walks into this appointment. Calm her nerves, steady her voice, and fill her with wisdom to ask the right questions. Lord, we pray for the surgeon, give him discernment, patience, and humility to listen to her concerns without defensiveness. Soften his heart to consider her medical history and the validity of her fears about medication risks.

We rebuke the spirit of fear in Jesus’ name, fear of being dismissed, fear of medical errors, fear of the unknown. You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). We declare that today’s appointment will be productive, that her voice will be heard, and that she will leave with clarity, not confusion.

We also lift up her concerns about the medications and testing. Lord, You know the intricacies of her body better than any doctor. Guide her steps toward the right path, whether that means advocating for alternative testing, finding a specialist who will listen, or receiving confirmation that her instincts are correct. We pray against any pride or resistance in the medical system that would block her from the care she needs. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6).

And Lord, we ask for Your protection over her health. If there are risks with these medications or procedures, reveal them clearly. If there are safer alternatives, open those doors. We pray for healing, physical, emotional, and spiritual. You are the God who heals (Exodus 15:26), and we stand on that promise today.

Finally, we thank You for her courage in advocating for herself. It is not easy to question authority, but You have given her a spirit of discernment. Strengthen her resolve, and remind her that she is not a "child bride" to be controlled, she is Your beloved child, fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). May she leave this appointment feeling heard, respected, and one step closer to the answers she seeks.

In the precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Bless me to know You, so that I can trust You with all my heart, acknowledge You in all my ways, and lean not to my own understanding. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God-conscious-solution-focused-heart-mind-spirit-and-attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. God, all that I have asked of You, in this prayer, please do the same for the writer of the prayer, all those who love and care about me, and all those I love and care about. God, please forever honor this prayer over each of our lives. God Thank You. Amen, so be it by faith, and by faith, it is so

We’re right there with you in spirit, especially today as you walk into that appointment. The sheer weight of it, the fear, the exhaustion from fighting to be heard, the burden of knowing your own body well and yet being blocked at every turn, is a lot to carry. It’s no wonder you feel drained and shaky.

We’ve been reminded of Elijah, a bold and faithful man who nevertheless found himself so depleted and alone that he collapsed under a broom tree and later hid in a cave. God didn’t scold him for his fear or exhaustion. Instead, God sent food, rest, a quiet presence, and eventually fresh direction. In the same way, we trust God sees you right now, exactly where you are, and cares about every detail of this hard moment. Not as a distant observer, but as one who draws near to the worn-out and strengthen-tired spirits.

Since you’re heading into the appointment today, one small step that might help steady you: before you go in, pause and mentally hand the room over to God. You might jot down your key concerns on a notecard, the kidney function, the BRAVO test, the microaspiration, the unresolved need for a second opinion, so that when nerves spike, you have a calm reference point instead of relying on memory. You are not a difficult patient for wanting safety; you are a wise advocate for the body God gave you.

We are praying that the surgeon you meet today will listen with an open, unhurried mind, and that you will sense God’s steadying peace right there in the office, a peace that quiets the racing heart and clears your thoughts. May you not be brushed off, but truly heard. And may the road open for the consultation you need, even if it comes through a different door than you expected.

Lord Jesus, we lift up our sister as she faces this appointment. Calm her fears. Give her clarity and courage to speak her concerns. Surround her with Your presence, and guide the surgeon’s ears and hands. Please clear the way for a safe, wise path forward, and grant her real rest from the emotional and physical drain of this long battle. In Your name we pray. Amen.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God. This command is absolute and unqualified; we are not to fear at all. It chides fear and forbids dismay, and it is Jesus Himself who whispers to His poor servant, fallen as dead at His feet, "Fear not." Why should the child of God be afraid? The fear of men bringeth a snare, and such a snare that many feet have been tripped by it. Thou fearest the anger of the doctors, but should the elect of God be afraid of one who has neither part nor lot in the matter? Should he not rather feel that the son of the King of kings must not fear the child of this world? Thou hast seen the Lord help thee before, when they would have pierced thy lung without cause, when they delayed the work upon thy wrists until the scarring grew deep. Thou wast right then, and the Lord was thy shield. He who helped thee then will help thee now. "Fear not, thou worm Jacob; I will help thee, saith the Lord."

But the mind must be stayed upon Him, or the peace will flee. "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee." The blood of Jesus whispers peace within. Thy circumstances roar like a tempest, the eGFR numbers, the BRAVO test, the blocked second opinion, the raw throat, the fear of the rebound acid, the intake form with its questions, the exhaustion of the spirit, all these are thronging duties pressing hard upon thee. But to do the will of Jesus, this is rest. Bear thy sorrow with Him, and then see what peace, what perfect peace, thou wilt enjoy, even with sorrows surging round. Thy track record of questioning is not given thee to breed self-trust, but to drive thee to trust Him more completely. He giveth wisdom to the worm, that the worm might not fear the heel that is lifted up.

Peace, perfect peace, death shadowing us and ours? Jesus has vanquished death and all its powers. Much more shall He vanquish the fear of a scope, the terror of a discussion over a medicine, the snarl of a practitioner who loveth not to be questioned. What peace can there be to those whose rebellions are so many against the world's system? The false peace of just submitting and saying nothing would be a curse, a peace that cannot endure contemplation. But the peace the Lord giveth is a blessing, a peace from lips that cannot lie, a peace through the blood which hath made full atonement. Thou art frightened now, even as Jacob at the Jabbok, with nature and grace, belief and unbelief, fear and faith battling together in the soul. He said, "I fear him, lest he come and smite me." But the Lord had already promised mercy, and the Lord brought him through. The fear led him to take a review of his life and to cling to the covenant promise. So let it be with thee. Thy soul is among lions, but the Angel of the Covenant hath charge over thee. Be not dismayed at all. It is enough. Earth's struggles soon shall cease, and Jesus calls us to Heaven's perfect peace. Until then, thou art kept.
