Romans 8:28

Godispowerful

Humble Servant
And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to his purpose.

We are so encouraged that you have shared Romans 8:28 with us, for we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose. We hold fast to this precious promise together with you, because it reminds us that nothing in our lives is wasted or unseen by our Father.

We love this verse because it does not say that all things are good, but that God in His sovereignty and mercy works all things together for good. Even in suffering, disappointment, waiting, and heartbreak, He is weaving a purpose that we may not fully understand now. As it is written in Jeremiah 29:11, I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. And we are reminded in Genesis 50:20 that what others meant for evil, God meant for good. Our light affliction, which is for the moment, works for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory, 2 Corinthians 4:17.

We also want to gently remind you that this promise in Romans 8:28 is given specifically to those who love God and are called according to His purpose. To love Him is to know Him through His Son, and to be called according to His purpose is to be in Christ Jesus. We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and can claim this promise as His children. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. To love God is to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, to repent and trust in His death and resurrection for the forgiveness of our sins, and to walk in obedience to Him.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we thank You for Your Word and for the comfort of Romans 8:28. We thank You that You are sovereign over every detail of our lives and that You are working all things together for our good and for Your glory. We pray for the one who shared this verse, that You would deepen their love for You and their confidence in Your calling. Help them to trust You even when they cannot trace Your hand, knowing that You who began a good work in them will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ, Philippians 1:6. If they have not yet fully surrendered their life to Jesus, we pray that today they would call upon His name and be saved, and enter into the full assurance of being Your beloved child. Give them peace that passes all understanding, strengthen their faith, and let them see Your goodness even in hard seasons. We ask all of this in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to continue to abide in Him, to love Him with all your heart, soul, and mind, and to seek His purpose daily through prayer and His Word. He is faithful, and He will not fail you.

Thank you for pausing to give thanks and for sharing that promise with us. We can hear the trust in your words, and it encourages us.

It is a gift to look back and see how God has been at work even in hard or ordinary days, weaving things together for good for those who love Him. Holding onto that confidence steadies us when the picture is still unfolding.

We are joining you in thanking God for His faithfulness to you. If it would be helpful, you might take a few minutes this week to jot down two or three specific ways you have seen His goodness lately, even small ones, and share one of them with a trusted friend or family member. Giving voice to gratitude often strengthens our own hearts and encourages others too.

We appreciate you letting us celebrate with you. We are praying your thankfulness continues to grow as you walk with Him each day. Thank you again for reminding us all to notice His hand.

Father, we thank You for Your steadfast love and for the ways You are working in this life. We praise You for every good gift and for Your nearness through every season. Keep drawing our friend closer to You and deepen their joy in knowing You. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is a world of comfort laid up in that one verse which you have set before us, and well may your soul lay hold upon it. We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.

You will take notice that the apostle does not say that all things are good in themselves, for many things are grievous and bitter, but that God works all things together for good. He is in one mind, and His purpose is fixed and settled. In all the acts of Providence He has an everlasting design, and from every evil He brings forth good, and the more the evil has accumulated the more has He glorified Himself in bringing out at last His grand purpose. He saw you ruined in the fall, yet His mind never changed from His purpose to save you. Having written your name in His book, He will not cross it out.

It may be that you are at this time in the furnace of affliction. The Lord says, I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction. He does not choose His people and then leave them when the fire grows hot, as a summer friend who flees in winter. No, He chooses them there, and He sits by the furnace as a refiner, watching the metal till His own image is reflected in it. There is no place where we learn so much, and have so much light cast upon Scripture, as we do in the furnace. Read a truth in prosperity and you will not make much of it, but read it in affliction and you will understand it.

What time you are afraid, trust in Him. So said David, and so must you. When temporal affairs press hard, when the good ship of your business seems ready to drive upon the rocks, when sickness or sorrow or the fear of death comes upon you, then is the time to trust in the living Saviour, for in Him are life and immortality. We have been in strange places and in very peculiar conditions in the past, but we never were thrown where we could not find in God all we needed. Leave your affairs in God's hands, and then go and work in His vineyard as long as it is called today.

Remember that this promise belongs only to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. A hope in God's mercy which is twisted together with a hope in your own works is vain, and a trust in mercy while you still love your iniquities is false. The same persons who fear God are those who hope in His mercy, and he that has this hope purifies himself even as He is pure. If you would have the Law written in your heart so that you delight to do His will, you must first be in covenant with Him through Jesus Christ, the Mediator of the new covenant. He must be your Ishi, your Husband and Redeemer, and then every blessing which that covenant guarantees shall be yours in due time.

May the Lord open your eyes to see God at work in Providence, in nature, in grace and in all sorts of ways, and may you be brought into such a blessed confidence in the love of Christ's heart, the power of Christ's arm, and the prevalence of Christ's plea, that at all times you may trust in Him and in nothing whatever be afraid. For He who has begun a good work in you will not be turned from His purpose, and He will make all things, even the darkest threads, to weave together for your eternal good.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We thank you for sharing this precious promise from Romans 8:28. It is a word that has upheld many souls in times of joy and in times of trial, for it assures us that nothing in the life of one who loves God is wasted or outside His wise and sovereign care.

This promise is not that all things in themselves are good, but that God in His power and grace works through all things for good. And the good He seeks is above all that we would be conformed to the image of His Son, as the next verse teaches, and be kept in fellowship with Him forever. That good is given to those who love Him and who are called according to His purpose, those who have turned to Him through faith in Jesus Christ alone, for there is no other name by which we are saved and no other way to the Father.

If you are walking through hardship, disappointment, or waiting, take comfort that your labor and your tears are seen. God does not leave His children to chance. He is shaping you, strengthening your hope, and drawing you closer to Himself even through what is painful. If you are rejoicing, give thanks that every good gift comes from His hand and is meant to lead you to love Him more.

We pray for you now. Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your unfailing love and for the promise that You work all things for the good of those who love You. We ask that You would deepen this dear one's love for You and strengthen faith in Jesus Christ. Grant wisdom to see Your hand, patience to endure what You allow, and hope that does not disappoint. Conform this life more and more to the likeness of Christ, and lead in the path of holiness and obedience according to Your purpose. Comfort every anxious thought and fill the heart with peace that trusts You in all things. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord we pray, Amen.

The verse you shared is one of the strongest anchors God has given to those who belong to Him. It does not say that all things are good, but that God is at work in all things for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

That good is defined by His purpose, not always by immediate relief or by what we would choose in the moment. Because God sees down the road when we cannot, He can take even disappointing seasons, hardships, and long stretches of struggle and weave them into His preparation and provision for what He has ahead. There are times when His hand is not named or even seen at first, yet His overruling providence is quietly at work, turning what feels confusing or painful into something He will use for your growth and for His glory.

This promise rests not on your ability to hold everything together, but on His grace and His covenant to bless those who are His through faith in Jesus Christ. You began your life with God by the Spirit, through faith in the blood of Jesus who died in your place, and God has declared you righteous on that basis. You stand in His mercy, which is as high as the heavens above the earth, and you walk in His grace. That does not mean living carelessly, but it does mean your security is not in your own works or in trying to improve upon what God has done. His covenant to bless is not disannulled by the law and it is not disannulled by your failures. When God justifies you through faith in Christ, He does not impute iniquity to you.

Because this is true, you do not need to lean on what Scripture calls a broken reed. It is a constant temptation to trust in the arm of flesh, in resources, in people, in our own strength or success, but those supports will snap when weight is put on them. The Lord invites you to trust in Him alone. Often the struggle to trust comes simply from not yet knowing Him well. As you learn of Jesus and see again and again in Scripture how faithfully He keeps His promises, trust becomes more natural. You find He is upright in character and completely worthy of confidence.

You are preserved in Jesus Christ, kept by Him, and you are called to keep yourself in His love by walking in fellowship with Him, in harmony with His heart and His will. That is where His life flows, a life of righteousness, peace and joy in the Son, and love that is perfected in you by His Spirit, even love for those who are hard to love.

If you love Him and belong to Him through Jesus, you can bring every detail of your present situation to Him and leave it in His hands. Ask Him to align your heart with His purpose, to increase your knowledge of His love and grace, and to help you walk in the Spirit today. He is not wasting anything you are going through. He is working, and as you trust Him, He will channel His resources and His goodness through your life in the way that is truly best.

May the Lord give you peace as you rest in His faithfulness, and may you grow in the assurance that His work in you will be completed for His glory.
