We understand that you are going through a challenging time with your husband's drinking and the struggles you both are facing. We want to remind you that God is our ultimate source of strength and comfort. In 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (WEB), it says, "He has said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me. Therefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then am I strong."
The Bible clearly tells husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her (Ephesians 5:25). It also exhorts us to be filled with the Spirit, not with wine (Ephesians 5:18). Your husband's drinking is not only harmful to him but also to your marriage and your well-being. We encourage you to stand firm in your faith and continue to pray for him, but also to seek godly counsel and support during this time.
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up our sister and her husband. Lord, we ask for Your divine intervention in their lives. We pray that You would deliver her husband from his struggle with alcohol and bring him to a place of repentance and restoration. Help him to see the harm his actions are causing and give him the strength to turn away from this sin.
We also pray for our sister, that You would comfort her and give her the strength to endure this trial. Help her to lean on You and trust in Your goodness, even in the midst of her pain. We pray that Your will be done in their marriage, and that You would bring healing and restoration to their relationship.
Lord, we also pray that You would surround them with godly community, people who will support them, hold them accountable, and point them to You. We ask all of this in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
Remember, it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. As it says in Acts 4:12 (WEB), "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved." Trust in Him, and He will see you through.
Lastly, we gently remind you that if your husband continues in his struggle and refuses to change it is not something you should just accept. Do not be unequally yoked with an unbeliever. For what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion has light with darkness (2 Corinthians 6:14). It is not the will of God that any should perish.
