Reunion

Beloved of All
Please help me pray for a loving reunion. I have left her after she said she wanted friendship and I wanted a relationship. Please help me pray for a relationship with her. Thank you

We hear your heart’s longing for reconciliation and a relationship built on love, and we join you in bringing this before the Lord. First, we must address this with honesty and biblical truth. Your desire for a relationship is understandable, but we must examine whether this aligns with God’s design for love, commitment, and marriage.

Scripture tells us in 2 Corinthians 6:14, "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?" If she does not share your faith in Jesus Christ, pursuing a relationship with her would be stepping outside of God’s will. Even if she is a believer, her initial rejection of a relationship in favor of friendship may be a sign that this is not the path God has for you. We must trust His timing and His plan, even when it is painful.

If this woman is not a believer, we strongly encourage you to release this desire to the Lord and ask Him to prepare your heart for a godly spouse, one who shares your faith and is equally committed to honoring Christ in marriage. If she is a believer, we must still caution against pursuing someone who has already expressed that she does not want the same level of commitment you do. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."

We also want to gently rebuke any tendency to hold onto this relationship out of fear or loneliness rather than trusting God’s provision. Psalm 37:4 says, "Delight yourself also in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart." When we delight in Him first, He aligns our desires with His will.

Let us pray together:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can approach You. Lord, we lift up this brother’s heart to You, knowing that You see his longing for love and companionship. Father, we ask that You would reveal Your will to him clearly. If this woman is not the one You have for him, give him the strength to release her to You and trust in Your perfect plan. If she is, soften her heart and align her desires with Yours so that any relationship would honor You.

Lord, we ask that You heal any wounds of rejection or loneliness in his heart. Fill him with Your peace and assurance that You are his Provider and that Your plans for him are good. Help him to seek You above all else, trusting that You will bring the right spouse into his life at the right time. Guard his heart from impatience, fear, or compromise, and let him walk in the confidence that comes from knowing You.

Father, we also pray for this woman. If she does not know You, draw her to Yourself so that she may experience the love and salvation that only come through Jesus Christ. If she does know You, guide her steps and help her to seek Your will for her life.

We ask all of this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, knowing that it is only through Him that we have access to You. Amen."

In the meantime, we encourage you to focus on deepening your relationship with the Lord. Spend time in His Word, in prayer, and in fellowship with other believers. As you seek Him first, He will guide your steps and prepare you for the spouse He has for you. Remember, marriage is a sacred covenant designed by God to reflect Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). It is worth waiting for a spouse who shares that vision and commitment.

If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, we urge you to do so today. Romans 10:9 says, "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Salvation is found in no one else, and it is the foundation for every area of our lives, including relationships. If you would like to know more about what it means to follow Christ, we would love to guide you further.

What you’ve shared carries so much pain, the kind that comes when your heart is set on a future that the other person isn’t willing to walk into. We hear that ache, and we’re sorry you’re in this hard place. Stepping back because you couldn’t settle for friendship when you wanted something deeper took a lot of courage, even if it hurts right now.

When a hoped‑for relationship doesn’t come together, we’re often left grieving not just the person, but the companionship, the dreams, and the sense of direction we thought we had. That’s a real loss, and it deserves to be treated gently, not rushed past with quick fixes. It’s okay to feel stuck in the longing. At the same time, sometimes God’s guidance shows up through doors that close just as much as through those that open. The hard part is releasing our own blueprint and trusting that His care for us hasn’t faltered, even when the path looks lonely.

For now, maybe the most concrete step you can take is simply to let yourself grieve what you hoped for, while holding your future loosely before God. Rather than circling around the question of whether she’ll change her mind, you might find some steadiness by asking the Lord, “What do you want to do in me through this season?” Even a small shift like that can quiet the pressure to make something happen on your timetable. Talking with a trusted older friend, someone who will listen without trying to solve it all, might also help you carry the weight.

We’ll join you in praying, not because we believe God is a vending machine that gives us exactly what we ask for, but because He is near to the brokenhearted. And we trust He will meet you right where you are.

Lord Jesus, we lift up our friend who is hurting over a relationship that didn’t grow as he deeply wanted. You see his sadness, his disappointment, and all the questions he can’t answer yet. Please wrap him in Your peace that doesn’t depend on circumstances. Give him the courage to face each day without bitterness, and the wisdom to know when to keep hoping and when to let go. Most of all, draw his heart closer to You, the one Love that will never leave or disappoint. Sustain him with good friends and gentle reminders that he is not forgotten. We ask all this in Your name, Amen.

The true healing for a heart set upon an earthly affection is not found in the granting of that desire, but in the Great Physician's touch upon the wounded spirit. You have left her, and perhaps that departure was wisdom itself, for a friendship extended when love is demanded becomes a snare to the soul. But note this: the leaves of the Tree of Life are for the healing of the nations, and even the least thing about Christ has power to bind up the broken in heart. Bring this fevered longing to Him who took Peter's wife's mother by the hand and lifted her up; healing must come before any rightful service or relationship can flow from a whole heart.

Consider whether you have sought first the pardon that brings peace with God. When Jesus healed the palsied man, He declared, "Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee." Pardon and healing are one. If this earthly affection has become an idol set up in the shrine where only the Crucified should reign, then the wound is self-inflicted, and the balm must begin with reconciliation to your Maker. The God of Peace has prepared everything necessary for a perfect reconciliation through Christ’s atoning work. Before you plead for a reunion with her, I urge you to plead for a deeper union with Him.

Let this request be laid before the Lord in full submission to His will. The healing power of our Master is such that He says to the backslider, "Return! Return! Return!", and if it pleases Him, He can restore in His own time. But do not press your own design with an unyielding grip. True healing often comes not by obtaining what we crave, but by receiving whatever the pierced hand releases. Wait upon Him in the hearing of the Word, where faith comes and healing flows. And if she has chosen friendship, honor that boundary as a man under the constraints of a higher law, for Christ’s love constrains us to walk in truth and love, not demanding what another cannot freely give.

The leaves of that heavenly tree change the very lifeblood of a soul, making the nature other than it was. Seek that inward transformation, and trust that He who has committed unto us the word of reconciliation knows how to order all things well. Let your prayer be: “Lord, heal me; forgive me what I have made of this; and if it be for Thy glory and our eternal good, in Thine own way bring about that which Thou seest fit. But above all, let me be reconciled to Thee.”

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You ask for prayer for a loving reunion, but the love you seek is not yet ordered toward the eternal. Consider well our Lord’s words when the Jews boasted in their carnal relationship to Abraham. He did not deny they were Abraham’s seed according to the flesh, yet He drew them away from resting their hopes in that natural lineage. Why? Because true kinship is not of blood but of the will, of character, of faith. So I say to you: the relationship you desire is but a shadow if it is not founded upon the one true relationship, that of the creature reconciled to his Creator through Christ. For what are we before that? Enemies, perverse, sitting in darkness. And what has the Gospel brought? Adoption, an inheritance of Heaven, a relationship unto the Son of God. Do not seek so earnestly a union with a creature when you have first been invited into union with the Divine.

You say you left her because she wanted friendship and you wanted a relationship. But pause and examine what manner of love you call “love.” Is it not rather a passion that demands its own way? The love that fulfills the Law seeks not its own. You owe love to her as a sister in our common humanity, and if she is a believer, even more through spiritual kinship. Yet love cannot compel; it can only give. If she has chosen friendship, then to press for more is not to love but to lay a burden. Do not mistake the warmth of natural affection for the fire of charity that comes from above. God gave us good things to enjoy, but not for excess. Even wine, which gladdens the heart, becomes a snare when taken without measure. So also human affection, when it oversteps the bounds of sobriety and the will of another, becomes a kind of drunkenness.

Pray then, but not for the reunion of your own devising. Pray that both you and she may be drawn nearer to the One in whom all true reunions find their meaning. You say, “Please help me pray for a relationship with her.” I say rather: pray for grace to desire nothing contrary to God’s good purpose. For if we wake and watch, the prayers of the Church avail much; but if we sleep in self-will, not even the intercession of the saints can profit us. Do not put yourself in a situation where you need prayer to overturn another’s will, but place yourself where you need only mercy to accept what is given. For thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift, the gift of Himself, which far surpasses any earthly consolation.

Let this then be your reunion: to be reunited with patience, with chastity, with the peace that comes from resignation to Providence. Seek first the Kingdom, and all these other things will be ordered aright, whether by giving them or by taking the desire for them away. Do not exalt yourself lest you be humbled. Become instead a son of God by showing gentleness to those who do not consent to your wishes, for your heavenly Father is kind to the unthankful and the evil. In this way, even a Scythian draws near to Abraham, and a stranger becomes a child of promise. But the one who clings to his own lusts, though he be of the household of faith, becomes an alien. Let your prayer be this: “Thy will be done,” and you shall find that unspeakable gift which alone satisfies the soul.

It is right to bring the deep longings of the heart before the Lord, and I will pray with you. But let’s pause and let the light of Scripture search out what we mean by love, and what we are really asking for. The love God implants in His children is not the same as a mere romantic pull. There is a love born of the Spirit, selfless, patient, not insisting on its own way, and that love must govern every desire we bring to Him.

God demonstrated His own love toward us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for the ungodly. That love gave without calculating return. If we are asking for a union, we must honestly examine whether our love is of that same nature, or whether it has become more about what this relationship would do for us. When the other person has clearly offered friendship and drawn a boundary, a love that pushes past that is not the agape love that “seeks not her own.” It can easily slip into a self-gratifying kind of affection that, however intensely felt, is not rooted in the character of Jesus.

Even more foundational is this: the Lord desires a relationship with us in which our love for Him stands supreme above every other affection. He is a jealous God, not willing to share the throne of our hearts with any rival, however dear. If the thought of living without this reunion consumes you, ask whether your love for her has quietly exceeded your love for Christ. We are commanded to come out and be separate, to not be unequally bound together with one who does not share the same Spirit. If she is not a believer, the most loving thing you can do is entrust her to God and not proceed. If she is, but only wants friendship, then honoring her word is a way of loving her as yourself.

What you are walking through is not outside of His love. He has allowed this separation, and He will take care of it in His time and in His way. The ache you feel is an invitation to let His perfect love fill the void first. We love Him because He first loved us, and out of that overflow, all other loves find their right place. I pray that your primary desire becomes simply to live and please Him, that your heart rests in this: He who did not spare His own Son will bring you to exactly what is best, even if it looks different from what you now imagine. Let that unquenchable love hold you, and let your prayer be transformed from “give me this relationship” to “Thy will be done, for Thou art my deepest love.”
