Restful sleep, protection, financial provision

Thank you for sharing your heart with such thankfulness even while you are carrying real needs. It is good to bring rest, safety, and provision to the Lord together, because He hears and He cares for every part of your life.

For restful sleep, remember that sleep is a gift from the Lord to His beloved. One of the most comforting pictures in Scripture is of the shepherd who lies down across the opening of the sheepfold and says in effect, I am the door. Nothing can get to the sheep without passing over me. When you lie down at night, Christ Himself is that door around you. You can also think of Jacob, who lay down in a lonely place with a stone for a pillow, exhausted and far from home, and even there the Lord opened heaven above him and showed that He was present and watching. The Lord sees you in the night just as He saw him, and He is able to give you quiet, deep rest as you trust yourself to His care. The Scriptures say you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet, and that His word is like a lamp and a light that keeps you even when you sleep and speaks to you when you awake.

For protection, the Bible shows that the Lord is able to guard His people in ways we cannot guard ourselves. Once an entire army was kept in a deep sleep that the Lord Himself caused to fall upon them, so that David was kept safe without having to fight. In another place the Lord promises His people that they will dwell safely and even sleep in the woods without fear, and that He will send showers of blessing in their season. That is the kind of safekeeping He offers you now. His eye does not close when yours does, and His presence is a wall around you and your household.

For financial provision, especially with medical treatments and surgery before you, take comfort that God is a God who makes provision. The greatest provision He has made is for our sin, through Jesus Christ alone, and there is no other way for forgiveness and peace with God. Because He has already given His Son, we can be confident He also understands our daily needs and is able to provide for them. Under the old law God even made a rule for the cleansing of a leper, though leprosy was then incurable, as if He were leaving room for Himself to work a miracle if He chose. He still leaves room to work in impossible situations. He owns all things and He promises to supply what His children need, often as showers of blessing that come in His perfect season and in His perfect way.

It helps to make no provision for the flesh and instead to put on the Lord Jesus Christ each day, bringing every worry to Him in prayer. True renewal does not come only from more hours in bed, but from casting your cares on Him and letting His peace guard your heart and mind. Keep His word before you, pray honestly about each bill and each medical decision, and trust Him to guide you step by step.

May the Lord grant you quiet nights and refreshing sleep, may He stand as your door and your shield and keep you and those you love safe from harm, and may He open the doors of provision for every medical need according to His wisdom and mercy. May He give you peace as you rest in Jesus, who died and rose again and who is your only hope and your sure provision both now and forever. Amen.
