Requesting God's help with my studies

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I have four courses left to complete my degree. I am only taking one course per term at this point. The course I am currently in is the history of rhetoric and I am finding it to be extremely challenging. It is an in class course, but our professor does not lecture - he asks a question and leaves the discussion up to the class in groups, we write our group ideas on the white boards and a group volunteer talks briefly about the ideas. There are only a few students who speak up during class in reply to the professor's questions, so there is a lot of gaps when no one is talking. It is awkward, and I am struggling in this type of classroom format. The weekly reading workload is heavy, the texts are difficult to understand, and the two weekly writing assignment deadlines I struggle to meet as the reading content is dense, and I also work full-time to support myself. Father God, I ask in Jesus mighty name for your blessing to be upon this course, to help me completely get through and understand thoroughly the weekly assigned readings, and for a blessing to be upon my mind and tongue for the words to put in all writing assignments and to speak in all group discussions. Please help me be completely prepared for every class, having all the reading assignments and written assignments done, and done well, showing my comprehension, in Jesus name. Please be present with me each class, protect me from embarrassing myself, and help me speak with understanding of the works read and without fear, in Jesus precious name. Also, Father God, in Jesus name, please help me write excellent essays showing my ability to write and thorough comprehension of the concepts within the texts read and to meet all deadlines ahead of time. I ask all this in Jesus mighty name, Amen.

We join with you in bringing this burden before our Father and we thank you for seeking Him so faithfully in Jesus' mighty name. We hear your diligence and your desire to honor Him in your studies even while carrying the weight of full time work and a very demanding course format, and we want to stand with you for wisdom, understanding, and peace as you finish these last four courses.

The Lord cares about the work of our hands and our minds. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, Colossians 3:23, and we see that heart in you wanting to be thoroughly prepared, to comprehend deeply, and to meet every deadline with excellence. God is the giver of all wisdom and He delights to give it when we ask. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him, James 1:5. We also hear the anxiety and the fear of speaking up in that awkward silence and the pressure of dense readings, and we are reminded that God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control, 2 Timothy 1:7, and that we can bring every anxiety to Him. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:6-7.

We encourage you to commit each week's reading and writing to the Lord and to steward your time with diligence. Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed, Proverbs 16:3. In practical ways we encourage you to set aside a consistent daily time for the readings even in smaller portions so the dense texts can be digested slowly, to take brief notes in your own words to test comprehension, and to begin writing assignments early even with rough outlines so the ideas have time to mature. In the classroom, remember that your contribution does not need to be perfect to be valuable, God can use even a simple honest question or insight to bless the group, and each opportunity to speak is a chance to grow in courage for His glory.

We now pray together for you.

Father God, we come before You together in Jesus' precious and mighty name and we lift up this dear student to You. We ask for Your blessing upon this history of rhetoric course and upon every hour of reading and writing. Grant clarity of mind to grasp difficult texts, to retain what is read, and to discern the concepts with true understanding. We ask for Your anointing upon the tongue and the mind, that words would come with wisdom and grace for every group discussion and every essay, and that fear and self consciousness would be replaced by Your peace and confidence. Protect from embarrassment and from the spirit of fear, and help to speak with understanding and humility even when the room is silent and awkward. We pray for strength to balance full time work and study, for discipline to manage time well, for rest for the body and renewal for the mind, and for favor to meet every deadline ahead of time with work that reflects diligence and comprehension. Let this effort be offered as worship to You and let it bear fruit for Your purposes. Help to persevere through these final courses and to finish this degree for Your glory. We thank You that we have access to Your throne only through Jesus Christ our Lord, for there is no other name under heaven by which we are saved and by which we may boldly approach You. We trust You to equip and sustain and we give You thanks in advance for what You will do. In Jesus' mighty name we pray, Amen.

We hear how heavy this feels right now, working full time while carrying a demanding reading load, and trying to find your voice in a class format that leaves a lot of awkward silence. Wanting to do excellent work and honor God in it, while also worrying about embarrassing yourself or falling behind on deadlines, is a lot to hold.

With only four courses left, it makes sense you want to finish well. That history of rhetoric material is dense, and when a professor leaves discussion mostly to groups, it can be hard to know if you are on track.

A couple of practical steps that may ease some pressure:

It can help to go into each class with one prepared thought rather than trying to master everything, a main idea you took from the reading, or one honest question where you got stuck. That gives you something clear to offer your group without feeling you have to carry the whole discussion.

And with the heavy weekly reading and two writing deadlines on top of work, try mapping the week on a calendar early, breaking the readings into smaller daily blocks where you can, and reaching out soon to your professor during office hours or to your school's writing center for clarity on what he most wants to see in the essays. Getting that guidance early often saves time later.

We are praying for you as you keep going.

Father, we lift our brother to You. Thank You for his diligence and desire to learn well. Give him clarity as he reads, words that reflect what he is learning as he writes and speaks, and peace in the classroom. Help him prepare steady step by step and know Your presence with him each day. In Jesus' name, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Bless me to trust You with all my heart, lean not to my own understanding, acknowledge You in all my ways, and allow You to direct my footsteps and actions. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God-conscious-solution-focused-heart-mind-spirit-and-attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. God, all that I have asked of You, in this prayer, please do the same for the writer of the prayer, all those who love and care about me, and all those I love and care about. God, please forever honor this prayer over each of our lives. God Thank You. Amen, so be it by faith, and by faith, it is so. Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your request has been heard and we join with you in bringing it before the throne of grace in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We give thanks that you desire to finish well the work that is set before you, and we pray that He who has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. The work which Wisdom undertakes, Eternal Mercy never forsakes, and as you look upon these four remaining courses, and this present course which now presses so heavily, remember that the Lord does not call His people to labor in their own strength alone. He is with you to be your wisdom and your succor.

You speak of a heavy burden of dense reading, of writing under pressing deadlines while laboring full time to provide for yourself, and of an awkward and trying manner of instruction where silence and uncertainty abound. It is no wonder that anxiety arises, yet we would remind you of that gracious word, Casting all your care upon Him for He careth for you. We have found that the very anxiety which arises through being in a difficulty unfits us to meet that difficulty. Fear is weakening and it dishonors God, for it questions whether the arm that piled the heavens shall be palsied when you need help in a classroom or at your desk.

Therefore hear the Lord say to you as He has said to His people of old, Fear thou not for I am with thee, be not dismayed for I am thy God. Fear not thou worm Jacob, I will help thee saith the Lord. It is Jesus Himself who whispers to His servant, Fear not. To be afraid in such an hour is not only painful but needless, for Omniscience will be with you to be your wisdom and Immutability to be your strength. Labor then to get rid of fear as much as possible, not by striving in yourself, but by simple faith that rests completely upon Him without doubt or fear, for nothing gives Him more joy than such trust.

We pray that the Lord will put His fear in your heart, that filial fear which desires to please Him and to walk faithfully in the duties He has given you. May that holy fear keep you diligent in the hearing of the Word and in all faithful study, redeeming the time, preparing beforehand with care, and offering your studies as service unto Him. May He keep alive in you a sound mind and a willing heart.

Let us pray together.

Father in heaven, we come in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have access to Thy mercy. We ask Thy blessing upon this dear student. Grant clarity of mind to understand the weekly readings though they be dense and difficult. Give understanding, memory, and comprehension, and guide the tongue and the hand for every discussion and every writing assignment. Help in preparation for each class, that readings and writings may be done and done well, with diligence and honesty, showing true understanding. Be present in each class, calm every anxious thought, take away the fear of man which bringeth a snare, and grant boldness tempered with humility to speak with understanding and without fear. Grant grace to meet every deadline, yea to be beforehand, and to write with excellence and truthfulness. Sustain under the weight of full time labor and study, provide rest and strength, and preserve from embarrassment and confusion. Above all keep this soul in Thy fear and in Thy grace, dependent upon Thee, and cause this course and all that remains to be finished to Thy glory. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
