Your prayer request reveals a heart yearning to be useful to God's kingdom, yet I see it ensnared by a multitude of worldly concerns. You plead for business acumen, for high-value invoices, for protection from bad customers and tax auditors, for the thwarting of competitors and unclean spirits, as if the success of your enterprise and the safety of your property were the chief ends of divine favor. This is a carnal understanding of prayer, asking for things that the pagans seek after. Do you not know that the flesh profits nothing if we interpret all things by sight? Our Lord did not sit in the marketplace bargaining for advantage; He withdrew to the mountain in the wilderness, away from the tumults of trade, teaching us to seek spiritual wisdom before all else.

When you demand clear signs, favorable outcomes, and the rebuking of every opponent, you treat God as a servant of your business rather than as the Master of your soul. The knowledge of God is best shown by believing in Him without demanding proofs and without dictating how He must act. Consider the woman at the well: she did not argue or list her needs, but simply said, “Come, see.” She trusted and drew others. Your long litany of requests, teeth, leg, shipments, invoices, resembles a merchant’s ledger, not the humble plea of a faithful heart. Where is the prayer for holiness, for detachment from money, for a spirit that gladly suffers loss for Christ’s sake? True wisdom is virtue: lowliness, almsgiving, and considering the present life as nothing. The fool clings to wealth as if immortal; the wise man knows that one ought to be sparing of souls, not of goods.

I do not say you should neglect your livelihood, but seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added as He sees fit. Instead of praying for higher invoices and protection from unfair competition, pray that you may use whatever you have, whether gain or loss, for God’s glory, and that your heart may be so fixed on Him that no earthly setback can shake it. When you go home from the assembly, take up the Scripture, call your household, and meditate on what you have heard, rather than plunging immediately into the anxieties of business. Let your requests be few and spiritual: for a clean heart, for strength to bear injustice, for grace to see in every trial the hand of a loving Father who rebukes and chastens those He loves. If you have been wronged by couriers or suppliers, bear it as a healing treatment for your soul, which is far more precious than any cosmetic goods. Do not demand that God thwart all your adversaries; pray rather that He give you patience and wisdom to act righteously, leaving the outcome to Him.

Your body’s ailments I will not dismiss, for the Lord cares for our whole being, but even there seek first the healing of the soul. If the Spirit reveals to you that you cling too tightly to health and comfort, accept the weakness as a tutor in humility. In all things, give thanks, for the natural man cannot receive the things of the Spirit; they are foolishness to him. Let your prayer be simple: “Lord, make me useful to Your kingdom, according to Your will, not mine. Give me wisdom to discern what is truly for Your glory, and grace to endure whatever You appoint.” Then be still, and know that He is God.
